Isn't option 3 the same as 4?

Sort of, yes...

(But different in my mind)

You can't resist a sticker! :)

Looking good. What happened to the interior??

Just took out (and binned) the REALLY stinky and sodden carpets. The steering wheel has been removed (and put back loosely to move the car) to try and sort out the ignition switch shenanigans.

Option 4 Sounds like win!!!!! I would!

Say it quietly, but that is my favourite option!

Just popped out to collect some post and spotted this

There's a fair few Mercs fitted out as hearses but not seen a Volvo before

And an oldish 1 at that

Looks ideal for shitefest, it's even got curtains to make it a camper.

Had my first FTP in about twenty years with the van of many miles this morning. Abandoned it at work and got a lift home. just gone back and fixed it with a few tiewraps and its back in action again. The LHM filter has finally turned up for the BX and the exhaust is scheduled for delivery Monday, a date with a mot looms!

Snapped a bolt on a bonnet.

So drilled it out to put the retriever in.

God dammit.

Now what. My drill bits don't even make a mark on the snapped off bit.

Also yeah I didn't exactly drill the hole in the centre. Good skills.

That always happens, those things are worse than useless. They really are only suitable for plastic or aluminium screws.

Other halfs RX300 MOTd successfully, less impressive is slight play in both bottom ball joints that were new 18k ago.

Horrid things, I never use them unless I know the stud or bolt is shiftable; left hand drills FTW or RIDGID stud extractors if you've got deep pockets or need to fix a lot of sheared fasteners.

So here's a question for the SVM...

If you take the dashboard out of a Volvo 740, but don't disconnect the battery, does it usually have some immense electrical drain and flatten it overnight, or did I do something daft like leaving a light on that I can't find any evidence of?

The 740's dashboard doesn't have solder, it has metal staples. Willing a dash bulb put pressure somewhere that made the fuel gauge work, so I'm going to replace the bulbs, and get some contact cleaner in there.

Sorry Richard, not been properly on here the last few days so missed this post! My Council Estate 740 just plods on but Dave's had his 740 dash in bits before, as has Adrian; I'll give them a nudge.

I have been successfully nudged. Haven't had a 700 series dash out totally but leaving it with bits missing has never caused me issues. The only dash related light I can think of that would drain the battery like that overnight is probably be the glovebox but if that stuff is all out again it shouldn't cause issue.

Did you nudge any relays or anything like that? Most sit under the middle of the dash which makes avoiding them difficult. There's also a lot of stuff goes though the ignition switch as well which can give trouble but other than that I'm not sure really. 740s can be bastards for things like this, mine occasionally used to refuse to energise the fuel pump relay and wouldn't start until you gave it a wee wiggle but I could never find the true cause.

Those lh spiral stud extractors are the devils work !

Best stud extractors I've found the the sealey ak219 bit set . Never any more than 20 quid and are ideal to tap into a drilled hole . Spline and torx bits both work and they never snap off and make things worse they just slip . Don't buy the ones on the grey box tho . They are the newer stronger ones but they do just snap like a carrot !

Tomorrow is the big Ipswich to Felixstowe classic car run where there's over 600 cars, vans and buses drive from the local main park to Felixstowe sea front promenade and i have both the Rover and Dolomite booked in so i spent the afternoon polishing both cars ready for it.

I've hated the towbar on the P6 so i spent a few hours removing the bastard thing and the electrics, no a job i fancy doing again on my own! Still it looks a hell of a lot better now.

I am going to be near Yaxley tomorrow morning, so I may be able to make a slight* detour down to Felixstowe for a nose around in the afternoon if I have time.

I didn't book in this year, and family stuff means I won't be able to make it down unfortunately. Weather looks decent, enjoy the day!

M3 closed all weekend so they can put in a new bridge ( that still won't be completed and open until next January!

I have just been out on the bike over a couple of bridlepath bridges.

It was like a scene from 28 weeks later!

Gr3 scrap yard sesh this morning.  4 part(hardly) worn tyres (chinese death ring specials) fitted to the Mondeo whilst I got a new parcel shelf (free as very mucky) and the plastic rear trim piece it fits into as well as a new boot carpet - also scored a factory rear subwoofer from a very high spec and late model Rover 75 tourer. Gave a bloke a hand getting a centre seatbelt out too - as like me, he'd forgotten to bring some tools - helpfully, mine overlapped with his. All this and home by 10.30 - with receipts.  Things aren't what they used to be - they are better.

Nothing nudged, but I'm going with "I must have not shut a door properly or left the interior light on".

Wondering if it has an in-tank fuel pump now - got low on fuel, which it kindly informed me about with a couple of polite hiccups before getting £65 of finest unleaded. You can hear the fuel pump, which I've read elsewhere might be a sign the in tank pump isn't going.

Glovebox light is a sort of mess anyway. Only thing I've done recently was found the wire for the ashtray light and connected it. The ashtray did not light up.

Broke the autoglym out yesterday, and done all the glass properly which, sad as it is, is one of my favourite cleaning jobs as it makes such a difference.

Haven't started tackling the lacquer peel yet, I'll definitely do the nose cone and the spoiler but the roof can stay as it is, patina innit....1398884b4f655e7b391e75819faaf910.jpg0c9656cc2b62f0ce6de9e6ea0bac69c6.jpg

During the car show today, I was approached by a young guy. He had loads of questions and was really appreciative of my Volvo.

Really good chat, he seemed to know quite a bit. I mentioned that I was open to selling the car and was shocked at my my price.

It turns out he runs Volvo news page on Facebook and reckons I should be asking for twice as much. He really wanted to help me sell it and asked to share my car on his page. Fair enough I said.

He actually did make a little write up and shared pictures. Asking price £1500.

If it sells for anything over grand I would have taken him for a pint but unfortunately he can't have one for few years still.

FINALLY got the LDV pilot running. It was running for a few seconds and then cutting out, checked all the electrics, checked all the plumbing, all seemed to be correct. Tried and tried until the leak off pipes exploded and the fuel filter blew it's top seal out and sprayed diesel over everything.

Asked on the Citroen group on facebook as the pilot has an XUD9 engine. diagnosis was immediate, the fuel lines on the pump were reversed. The engine was sucking fuel up the return pipe, pressurising it and sending it down the inlet pipe to the leak off pipes and fuel filter, causing them to explode. FFS, what an amateur mistake!

With the pipes the right way round the van sprung into life and runs lovely, although it does seem to be very smoky- but the engine hasn't been used on the road for a while so probably just needs a good drive to clear everything out.

There's a bad waterleak from the rear of the engine somewhere, but it's running and driving and that's a huge step forward I think.

Fleet reduction is going... well it's not going at all really.  Had another no-show on the Getz this evening, and had naff all interest in the Innocenti from the C&C ad.  In fact the only car I've managed to sell is the A35, which my mate who was storing it for me has taken on - he's done more to it in three weeks than I had in a year and a half, he's fitted and tidied up the replacement front wing supplied by Angrydicky, repaired the top of the front valance, done a load of welding on the front inner arches, and he's also most of the way towards returning the car to its original black.

Mazda is going in for its test on Tuesday though, and if it passes that'll be going up for sale, followed by the DAF and the Trafic (which has been doing sterling work taking crap to the dump as part of my parallel non-vehicular clearout).  The CX needs to be weldaged before I can MOT it (hopefully be getting a mate to sort it soon), and ideally I'd like to get a couple of months' use out of it at least, but that'll probably be going up for sale come late summer.

Not sure what to do with the red Rover and the Mondeo.  Both would probably pass an MOT fairly easily (although the Rover would need to "borrow" the wheels and tyres from the RoD), but both have engine faults which render them relatively worthless even with an MOT.  I might just try flogging them as they are - although the Mondeo is probably worth £100 over the bridge so that might be the way it goes - I might even get a few extra quid for the alloys which all have good (if budget) tyres.
