Lexus has thanked me for buying discs and pads by breaking a locking wheelnut and - smaller socket did not suffice.

Found several more issues while fitting the front brakes, and the long and short is that it's going to need a grand spending on various bits to get through another MOT. Think I'm going to cut my losses and sell it. I could run it into the ground, but I don't fancy that. If I run it over winter that bill will get bigger.

9 months test, someone can get a good run out of it. I'm going to daily that MX5 that's lying around for a bit, and replace both with one car in time.

I have a £1700 bill coming in a week or so, so I can't pay to fix it either.

Spur of the moment decision to go and visit somewhere I’ve always fancied going… packed up the Saab and went…

IMG_2309.jpeg

The car park was promising, including this which it turns out was owned by the guy on the desk

The Rover theme continued in the car park…

IMG_2296.jpeg

Inside, it’s a really good museum. Loads of fascinating cars, I could have spent ages there… a small selection of some of my favourites.

In the workshop at the back one of the best of the lot… a Dutton Surf!!

All in all, good day out, would go and perv at old British chod again.

For last month the weather has been winding me up.  Lovely in the morning and then raining by the time I've got my first beverage of the day.  It has been very frustrating since I've had the rear doors repaired and ready to go on the Maestro for some time now so that I could do the adjustments and paint.  Today, weather was actually really lovely, I waited until after the first beverage and no rain appeared so I decided to chance my arm.  Even got both rear doors fitted, one reprofiled and even a tiny bit of welding to finish the job, first coat of filler and then...  yeah.  Then it rained.

I'm probably daft for wanting to finish all the outstanding jobs on this - front door rust repairs, fitting the better dashboard and centre console, new boot floor boards, what paint correction the paint will tolerate, general service items - before I sell it.  I want to give it the best chance at finding a decent home, it's been an excellent little car for me in spite of the mileage.  I feel like I'm coming to the end of my tenure with it now, in a good way, and I'd like someone else to enjoy it.  Absolutely prime FotU candidate really.

Maestro, so close to the end. Finish it, or take the tissue off the doors.

Had no idea what that was, know nothing of Renaults from this era.  A quick online search suggests it's a late 30s Vivaquatre.  Looks a good ten years younger than it really is if that's the case.  Do like the single rear lamp, presumably it was an optional extra to have a pair on the back.

What struck me about it was how big it was - and how remarkablely unrestored - flat paint, the odd bit of rust and a slightly moth-eaten mochette interior on bench seats. Just lovely and probably how it looked when it was 10 years old!

Have a bonus '25 - first I have seen in ages.

Looks very much like a facelifted LWB version of the Novaquatre I once owned.

Same dashboard, and probably the same sidevalve 2.4 engine that Renault fitted to everything from about 1918 to 1950.

Mmm...chunky.

That's about a third of what I eventually scraped out of that casting before it was dumped in the ultrasonic cleaner to stew for half an hour.

Might explain why it was refusing to regulate fuel delivery properly...

Discovered that the tame MOT tester that's MOT'ed all my cars for many years has left, which gave me the fear when I dropped my Pug 306 off to be tested earlier.

Need not have worried though - the old girl passed, a mere 24 years old and 263k on the clock 🙂

I keep meaning to make some time to go up there and see that museum. I believe someone on here works there too.

It’s definitely worth it.

Off on a collection mission.  Heading waaay north.  It's a boring* modern so might post the collection shot over t'other side.  It's also the most expensive car I've ever bought by a factor of more than two, so I'm slightly apprehensive...

I think this is partly E10's fault. See my thread for the big pile of Maestro tank crust that strangled the fuel supply.

I used Vista Print to create the self-inking stamp based on the attached gif. I think it was about £15 which was a bit  high just for a bit of a laugh but t'missus said seeing as it was for the sprog's motor why not?
Other folks that make stamps up probably are cheaper but we was in a hurry

I do like a Yaris so we have just purchased a very cheap T sport version that is surprisingly clean and tidy.

The down side is it needs a bit of welding on the o/s rear corner as the rear axles mounting point has broken off...

Last connection has been cancelled.  Fortunately only a 33 minute wait for the next one, but why does no long distance journey by public transport in this country ever go smoothly?  Also Azuma seats are f***ing horrible.

Not impossible, though any ethanol content can cause some of it simply by virtue of its ability to dissolve certain contaminants that neat petrol wouldn't touch.  Especially when dealing with a 60 year old fuel tank!

I've never by choice put the stuff in any of my cars, though it's increasingly being a case of taking what you can get it feels like.

The rear doors, they are painted.

Used a toffee wheel for the first time ever.  Takes a bit of getting the hang of and then makes seriously light work of the ancient vinyl graphics (that I'll be painting back on with satin black).  The repairs to the rear doors could have been done better if I had a proper space to do them in and whatnot instead of having to dodge bad weather. Rather than belittle my efforts, I look at how bad the front doors look to show me how much of an improvement I've made on the rears.

Aye.  That'll do won't it?

What's a toffee wheel?

Great work. Annoyingly I think the replacement NSR door I picked up for mine was that shade with that stripe - sorry, it's now White Diamond.

Did you say you were changing your dash? I noticed yet another heater control layout on a Ledbury car recently, with three rotary controls in the centre of the dash. Like a 'normal' car. That makes (I think) three heating and ventilation systems developed for the Maestro, the first being vacuum operated. Clowns.

Dad got the locking wheel nut off the Lexus so it's now rolling.

Check the for sale section for the full story - £21 roffle for a winter beater anyone?
