@Brigsy what epas system is it? I have the Portuguese (?) setup on Kangoo (F4R) and I find it too light on the lowest setting and sometimes inconsistent. I did think about removing the motor from the column and running it manual steering, the thought of reinstating the full 182 PS setup makes me cry.

I did wonder if a different/better rheostat on what I have now might make a difference, it's like I can't fine tune it enough 🤔

Mine is motor on column using nsk ecu, same as newer renault. Not seen the Portuguese setup, is that the hpas with electronic pump? Any ecu's running it? Its not one of thse crap boxes/potentiometer to adjust is it? They are terrible but i have a solution for that.

Wouldnt bother putting 182 hpas on, more hassle than its worth these days.

It is I suspect a crap box with a potentiometer, the seller was from Portugal I think. It uses an epas column from a 1.2 Clio from memory. The original PS lines had a leak and this seemed like a good idea at the time.

I'd love to hear your solution for it?

I went through all of this on my 182 trophy with the same setup. Binned it off and wired up epas ecu as per oem and it works spot on, light at low speeds and weighted at speed. If your using 182 wiring, you can take a speed reading from stereo wiring. Rpm is a separate issue as its canbus, so will need some resistors on coil wiring.

See post #48 on here for when i done mine.

Awesome, thanks. I'll have a look and see how easy it is to wire that in. Not sure if I have a 182 loom or not, I bought the van as an unfinished project with it pretty much complete. It was cheap enough that it was rude not to, it does mean I'm not sure what parts were used though.

Id bet its a 172 /182 full loom fitted if your dash works properly. Get some pics of engine bay and key and report back.

Not entirely sure this is my best ever buy, but it has ticked a box.

The 1.4 Multiair is quite good. I know the diesel would be better but I can't exactly be picky with Deltas.

How does it drive? Well, it does a classic FCA (as it were) of snatching a decent enough car out of what should have been a good one. The interior quality is mostly okay, but then most of the buttons and switchgear feel hideous. The seats are fairly good, but look like they should be great. You get a nice leather wrapped handbrake, and the most useless arm rest I've ever had in a car with one. The front end ride quality is 8/10, the back end is 5/10. Just stuff like that throughout.

The brakes are absolutely superb mind you, which caught me by surprise as I'm used to Italian cars having brakes which aren't!

It looks way better now than it did new. I know that's entirely subjective, but I was always a fan.

Can't help but feel I've bought a novelty car as opposed to something useful as a daily though.

I still wouldn't mind trying one at some point, I still remember seeing one from behind for the first time wondering what the hell it was.

I think they still have that effect on people, I had a few looks of bewilderment.

Noise suppression is also really good. Tbh it's better than the Dedra I had and also better than any Stilo I've had, and it is basically a Stilo XXL LWB.

Big shame we never got the twin turbo 190hp diesel here, although it wouldn't have sold well. Less than 1000 ever registered in the UK of all models when new. Mad.

Is this the same as the Lancia Ypsilon or whatever its called in Europe? Looks familiar and they were everywhere over there whenever I've been onto the 'mainland'.

Its the much bigger Delta, the Ypsilon was Fiat 500-sized and also sold here.

Body cut panels from a scrapped car were all that was available to the geezer - turned out better than expected.🤔

no1 son dropped the Fuel Tank out for me while I did some work on the House, not good news as is absolutely rotten inside and in very poor condition, the search is now on for a decent tank

I have thought about designing a 'universal' (quite small) plastic tank with a variety of brackets and hose fittings that can be used as a fuel tank replacement on cars where the proper parts are NLA/£OMG

That’s a pretty good idea, I’ve luckily managed to get hold of a Fuel tank from a mk1 escort van which should be the same*, it’s being delivered this week but yeah estate/van tanks are extremely rare and when they do come up are quite expensive

*this is when someone points out there slightly different and cheap as chips

All these years later and there are still plenty fouling their gears and neglecting their differentials, the rotters.

MOT day for the old shed this morning. In for the first test of the day at 07:00. On the ramps by 07:10, brew in hand. 45 minutes later…

Bloody lovely.  Circa 15,600 miles this year. A little low, but I spent 3 months unemployed and trying not to do too much driving.

The front tyres I knew are getting grizzly,  but my winter wheels are going on in a few weeks so no worries until spring. In spite of my grinding and painting, the subframe is still looking a little tired. This might be its last test but we’ll see. Bodywork is getting tired, underside a little rusty and all of the boring other old car shit. 96,000 miles with me now though, and hopefully we’ll get a few more good trips in the the next 13 months.

I've been looking for a reasonably priced pez auto ULEZ beater recently.  Private seller even better so I'm not dealing with Arthur Daley part ex fodder.  I was getting bored looking until this turned up locally.

56k miles, giffer owned in leafy Surrey until three years ago, and the lad I bought it off was decent which made it a pleasant transaction.  He MoTd and serviced it before putting it up for sale, but it needs a pair of rear tyres so I've bought some Goodyear 2024 part worns already.  It passed the MoT but the OS one has some large cracks.  Dunno why that wasn't advised.  Pretty much ticks all the boxes too as I fancied a mid sized estate.

The Mégane will stay for a while I think, unless I suddenly decide to buy something daft now I've got the sensible daily option sorted.

Today my work (Datsun) had a little charity car gathering so I spent yesterday cleaning up the Maestro and getting it spic and span.

Of course Hurricane Bastard has just hit so all that work was wiped out within minutes of setting off from home.

But a fun little show despite the rain, here are some highlights. I voted the Primera as 'Best Nissan' because, you know, Autoshite.

The 205 was absolutely immaculate, very nice indeed.

SDR's are amazing things. I missed out on owning when they were cheap, now they fetch mega money. Rode one years ago, so light you basically think it round corners

No. I deliberately ignored it because I thought it was too 'try hard'.

I did feel sorry for the owner when he arrived. Fully trussed up in Barbour wax and goggles, he must have been freezing.

To top it all he then had to get out and push the damn thing because they don't have a reverse gear (unless I'm mistaken).

@Rustybullethole @Stinkwheel what's the story with the little blue Yamaha, is it a 50cc?

Posted

Yes 50cc 2 stroke. Ive only seen the one up close at Brands bike night. Pretty cool little thing.

They did an 80 as well, some were modified back in the day with tzr125 engines I think it was. They are hilarious and lethal in equal measure. They did a TDR250 replica TDR 80 in the same way. I would love one of those

snapped off fuel tank studs drilled out, cleaned about where the tank normally is and chassis blacked it (first quick coat) blasted cavity wax into all the chassis rails whilst I was under there

picked up the new to me fuel tank Friday afternoon from Bristol there’s a very small pin hole in the top vent tube which I will JB weld, the tank will be chassis blacked before fitting, I have new 5/16 copper hard line and fuel injection hose to fit also

found some “quality” MOT repairs on the inner sill/floor from a previous owner from probably years ago whilst trying to to find the chassis number, will repair this once the fuel tank etc is fitted

Insured it today for £105 for the year

tax and MOT exempted it at the post office also
