His claims include not remembering anything; he didn't see her (bright blue with LED lights) car and thought he'd hit the grass bank and that a muntjac deer ran out in front of him. I mentioned to the Police that it was odd he failed to remember or see anything, but was able to identify the breed of mostly nocturnal deer that allegedly ran out in front of him. It is, of course, total bollocks - he rounded a right hand bend completely on the wrong side of the road, it wasn't a brief moment of error. The Police have told me that there isn't enough evidence and so are not intending to prosecute him. You couldn't make this up.

I think in Norway they would at least have taken away his driver's license after something like this.

So it is absolutely incredible that he walks away from this without any real punishment or actions against him.

Where you see the blue arrow sign just above the car is where the ball joint popped off. I accelerated the car towards where you see it with the wheel hanging off. Thankfully it didn't do much damage if at all.

I miss that car.

For him to get away Scott fee is absolute horse shit! You should indeed get a new car from insurance, as it’s less than 12 months old and I am relieved there is no serious injury to your partner. This will stay with her for a while though, whilst that prick gets let off. Fucking madness.

The rain eased off later in the evening so I decided to treat myself to a lap.  Track was pretty much deserted, I followed a Hyundai i20N through the barrier but he disappeared into the distance within a couple of minutes.  A Belgian registered X6M came thundering past around the 14km mark, but other than that I didn't see another car all the way round.  I'm probably in contention for the slowest lap time on record - the tarmac isn't very grippy at all when it's soaking wet - but I had fun which is the important thing, and it's something ticked off the bucket list.

Some people just need their doctor to prescribe them a course of hammers.

I think I might have set the slowest lap back in the early 90's in a 1.6d D reg Orion.

Like you I still had great fun doing it though.

Older folks' driving does worry me.

My parents are in their 70s, my dad grips the wheel like it's a white knuckle ride and seems to constantly forget what gear he's in. Meanwhile I followed my mum once and struggled to keep up! At least they both seem capable of staying on the correct side of the road.

Unlike the pickup yesterday. I was driving towards them down a straight bit of road in the SLK with my headlights on. They just sat right in the centre of the road then swerved almost at the last second. I turned the inside of the SLK blue calling the stupid inattentive auld fucker all sorts of names...

Still on a high after my emergency Audi spannering.

Just a simple case of driving down to my pre booked MOT…

More fucksticks.

MOT not till 3:30 (my clock is wrong in car so we’re talking hours not minutes) so any prayers of solidarity offered to the God of Turny-Off-And-On-Again are gratefully accepted…

🤣

Meantime have some ‘90’s austerity style dash and dial porn. Yes, oil temp is broken.

UK police are too busy checking mean tweets to deal with physical crimes. However, his insurance company may make it impossible for him to carry on driving, by loading the premiums at renewal. That will be a big claim, what with a replacement new car, (It doesn't matter what criteria they say you qualify under, a car that's just a few weeks old will have to be replaced with new), a courtesy car, also multiple personal injuries, and replacement of his car. It could cost well into six figures.

My lovely old Mum is 74. She’d barely been able to mumble the words “I don’t enjoy driv…” before I had the keys out of her hands and the car on the A14 slip road.

Her father had a heart attack at the wheel. Fortunately he just left the road and smashed through a fence, but it could have been horrific.

My mum stopped driving quite a while ago, bad legs. My dad did worry me, sometimes he was brilliant, sometimes he scared the crap out of me. When I brought it up, I got the 'I'm fine' speech.

However it must have had the desired effect, he was an IAM member, and went and did a driving assessment, which he passed with flying colours, after which I didn't really have an argument.

When he got really ill, I refused to let him drive at all, took the car keys and brought them up to ours for Christmas.

I always used to say to him, ' isn't it better for people to say why did you stop driving, than why didn't you?'

It was invoice day today.

There's still part of me that doesn't quite believe it's as simple as "do thing I enjoy" then "send invoice" followed by "receive money within 10 minutes"

Got some premium bonds and a pizza.

Update - Pass, jolly nice garage jubilee clipped up the exhaust as the rubbers didn’t pass the waggle test intact.

Some years ago, an elderly driver drove straight out of a side road without stopping and into the side of my car, pushing it onto the wrong side. Luckily it was fairly low speed.

I stopped and got out of the car, only to see him driving away. As far as I know, nothing happened to him in that case. I reported it to police for my insurance claim.

I'm mainly posting to say that that time I was insured with Admiral too and they were excellent with sorting it out. It was a long time ago though and since then, they've never given me a sensible quote but had always been competitive before that. So maybe prepare to swap at renewal time.

A while ago a mate was stuck in traffic outside Watford football ground,. A few cars ahead, there was a police car, stuck in the same queue.

An old duffer, pulling out from a side road, you know the type, 8 million rpm, but no clutch.

His foot must have slipped off the pedal.

He howled across the road, and smacked straight into the side of the police car.

My mate says the resigned look on the polices face as they retrieved their hats, and stepped out of the passenger side of their car will stay with him forever.

He had to pull over, he was laughing so much he couldn't drive.

I'm sorry but that doesn't work out.  I've done some calculations and if you'd set off round the Ring in the early 90s in an Orion 1.6D and kept your foot hard to the floor, you'd just about be reaching the Karussel now.

🤣 Oh it was painfully slow, we used to stop at the Ring on the way to Hungary as its pretty much half way, done it a few times over the years and the slowest laps would have been the old diesel Orion or an early Nissan Navara diesel.

The most fun was a toss up between a 2.0 Cortina a mate had with some trick camshaft that he 'claimed' was bored out to a 2.2 and would go off the end of speedo* or my Sierra XR4x4 that decided to blow a hole in the Y piece of the exhaust at about 130* and give me heart failure.

* I would have loved it if mobile phones and satnavs existed back then to see how fast we were truly going, looking back I'm sure it was nowhere near the indicated speeds!

Another fraught day yesterday.

I couldnt remove my wife's vanity plate online from the red A4 as it had spent more than 6 months untaxed at some point in the past. That would likely be early 2022 when it was doing the rounds with a seized engine. So I had to post everything off to them.

The garage were finishing the MOT but completely unbeknownst to me, the DVLA had updated their records between the car failing and it being ready to pass. I only knew because I checked online.

Anyway, they phoned me to say they couldnt pass it with the old plates on as it no longer matches the DVLA. Luckily I had the original plates in my garage but I was in my office in Edinburgh. Phoned my wife and asked if she wouldn't mind getting the plates and handing them into the garage. Where's the key? Fuck, in my pocket. Cue some frantic searching for a spare, some keys were tried and thankfully one fitted and she was in.

My wife then went down to the garage, handed in the plates and waited for them to finish. Payment made, keys acquired and I swung by last night to collect it. So another year's MOT. Oh and the vibration when accelerating is gone, it must have been the track rod end!

I've said it before but I'm ranking this car as one of my Top Buys in recent years (and I owe my wife lunch at the weekend)

I'm in Strasbourg at the moment.  It's quite picturesque.

I had to park in Germany and get the tram as the Rover isn't allowed into Strasbourg being a Euro 3 diesel - even the Park & Rides on the French side are within the LEZ, which seems a bit daft.

I parked two spaces down from this beauty, which is presumably parked there for similar reasons.

It would seem that Swedish bricks are the car of choice for the go getter modern day executive.

Need to close the deal? Lets make them lightheaded first with exhaust fumes.

Are they trying to get away? Slow them down with oil patches so you can catch them up.

Or alternatively it might just be someone there to clean the bogs.
