After yesterday's double FTP, today's bonus ball was:

'bing' - 'yer airbags' are shite' from the van.
'feck' - 'I left my OBD dongle in the FTP Bini' from me

On the bright side - Ovlov battery (Tanya) and alternator ordered this morning, both should be here tomorrow - that's such an amazing thing compared to what? Twenty years back?

That's like the older chap in a C-class wondering what engine tech Mercedes had fitted for my SLK's infinite improbability drive...

My son has a much modified 300zx Nissan (really not my cup of tea) that has sat unused for about two years.

IMG20230926143900.thumb.jpg.5e7c6bd60e8d05a0c1b26f93e131fd7d.jpg

Back in the summer it was started and wasn't happy so fresh fuel was added and it ran a bit better but then it choked up and stalled. When he tried to start it again the engine had now locked up.

A bit of detective work involving removing the coils and spark plugs and trying to crank it over revealed it wasn't seized but no 5 cylinder was actually brimmed full of petrol that was now being ejected at great velocity onto my neighbours Kuga and cylinder 5 kept ejecting fuel even with the injector unplugged.

I suspected the injector had stuck open where the car had been sat around for so long so it needed removing and testing.

IMG20230807180543.thumb.jpg.9164baa0c6b6e12f933af6d376995512.jpg

One of the injector hex screws was a doddle to undo but the other one required the intake assembly removing which looked a right faff.

IMG20230926133443.thumb.jpg.3ccdb383247de6f78b611dd11563c973.jpg

I've never had much success with grinding material away with Dremel type tools but my son had a genuine one so I set to and ground away a big chunk of inlet manifold to access the hidden hex screw.

IMG-20230908-WA0006.thumb.jpg.0fd63821f71d1ac24627e63c3e67a01f.jpg

I gave the injector to my son who was going to get it tested/replaced but he was moving house at the time and lost it for a month or so then found it again and dropped it off a tuning company in Maidstone who also misplaced it for a while before finding it and declaring it perfectly serviceable.

So fast forward to this week and a dry day presented itself yesterday so with new seals added the injector was refitted and the old thing fired up on 5-6 cylinders and sounded very top endy and smoked a bit out of one tail pipe.

After more fresh E5 was added and the oil had got around the valve gear it came up onto six cylinders and quietened down nicely. It took a fair few runs up and down the village to clear the smoke from the exhaust but mostly it seems ok now.

The worry is why did injector five fill its cylinder up with fuel then fix itself and will any of the other injectors decide to copy it later.

Obvious answer, it was stuck and then unstuck. Maybe put some injector cleaner in the tank?

The CRV has passed its ticket today. 3 advisories. I usually get all advisories sorted but this time not. Its to be sold, so next owner can worry (or not) about it.

What was the solution to the light problem in the end? New stalk?

Chucked it in and hoped :)

Did buy replacement stalks in case they were needed.

Next owner can have them.

Bought a new gunsight. Because I know someone will end up ripping it off in a few weeks, it's a £12.99 eBay knock off special.

The box looks almost plausibly passable as genuine.

I haven't fitted it yet as have a cold and feel absolutely dog shite. I was hoping to go to the NEC Classic Car Show this Saturday but I think I'll have to skip it this year. No point spending nearly 100 quid to go and not be able to make it all the way around as feeling crap.

RAC bemoaning UK potholes.

Is there not an irony here that the RAC don't treat pothole related FTP's as breakdowns and thus do not assist?

Anyway a typical example of an organisation putting out a 'look at us' press release and it getting picked up on a slow news day...

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/10/vehicle-breakdowns-due-to-potholes-hit-record-level-in-2023-says-rac

And people wonder why people drive tough 4x4...😂

The TT is leaking brake fluid AGAIN.

It's from the same place as before which I can't understand as it had new pipes and flexis both sides. Hopefully something just needs nipped up.

I'll need to make a concerted effort to sell the SLK so I can get my wife something 'normal' even just as a stop-gap as this won't do. Having a lump of metal adding to my already poor mental state is senseless and unnecessary.

Speak for yourself, the battery leads pop off the terminals when I hit a pothole in my Discovery 3 and I have to pull over and put them back on again 🤣

When stuff like this happens and I need to fall back to something solidly reliable, my frankly bizarrely crazy mind goes.

HONDA HONDA HONDA

Or TOOOOYOTA

Sung to the tune of badger badger mushroom. (Scarily some on here will be too young to remember this first circulating the internet)

Just not one from the Scottish rust belt please.
