Ooh, what are we buying next?

Something small so it fits in my garage.  I might just stick to two cars for little while.

The old x1/9 exhaust is now in Wrexham north wales for collection, sadly @brownnovadidn’t get his act together for 2cv bits in time so will have to wait.

The vectra has a couple of broken flaps on the interior vents. I have removed one and stripped it down ( a more detailed explanation in "what have you fixed lately?" thread).

I keep looking at other cars as the vectra is getting a bit old - two injectors need re sealing and it will need a rad before next summer. It has started to clonk from the front - I suspect it needs drop links.

However stuff is so expensive - £3.5 k for an 09 mondeo estate with 120 k to £4750 for a 13 plate passat with 149 k - if you are borrowing money the car will be worn out before it is paid off - I think I will just pick the jobs off one at a time.

I agree.  10 year old cars etc seem very expensive for what they are,

Vauxhall employed the engine bay design services of Gilette for the Omega, honestly it's my most hated job ever

I would recommend those cloth gloves impregnated with rubber, but I know from painful experience that they often don't offer the fingertip dexterity needed for some jobs. Probably including this one.

Personally I rarely use gloves now except for scary grinding and stuff. A bit of barrier cream to start and then let the grime accumulate.

Last night's curry was a touch more potent than I thought. Emergency evacuation kicked in around 3am and has continued at intervals since.

Situation: acrid

Poo count: liquid.

Thames Water will probably release it all into a river somewhere.

It did contain potatoes. They were really good. Or at least they were alright until 3am.

Anyway, been away a while, actually took a week off driving this week and slept the sleep of the dead for most of it. Back to work tomorrow, however, so desparately trying to catch up here.

In fleet news, the 620 was hauled out of the garage and brought back to the Close, on the day the MoT ran out. It looks terrible now - all the lacquer has peeled off the roof, and a lot off the bonnet and boot. The interior is in bits, the exhaust is fucked, the brakes are non-existant (and one caliper is stuck). Extremely likely this one will follow the 214 - cannot afford to run a fleet any more, don't have time to do maintenance, so pared it down to the 420 and the Streetwise - will not let either of these go, and indeed I'll be looking to get some work done on the 420 to keep it tip-top. For now, it's occupying the garage, as I barely get time to drive one car, let alone two.  I'll probably operate a squad rotation system and swap it with the Streetwise every so often.

The Streetwise is all good, finally fixed the sticking tailgate lock this week, so I can now finally leave stuff in it and not worry about it being half-inched.

The tool of the trade is somehow still going. It is going in to a diesel specialist in Nottingham on Wednesday to get to the bottom of the poor starting/black smoke issues. Discussing it with one of the proprietors (proper old school, time-served engineer - one of these places that doesn't need a website, all word of mouth), our money is on the high pressure fuel pump being FUBARED. Once that's sorted (and by some miracle the engine is not declared a write-off) I'll get it booked in for the front top strut mount work at the local van hire company (did a cheap and very good job with the radiator earlier this year). Toyed with the idea of buying a post-2015 Fiesta or Corsa van to add to the commercial fleet - jury still out, although I have seen a nice Fiestavan sport for around £4k which is attracting me unnecessarily.

A few hours with some G101 and a snow gun got it looking more presentable.

Much better I'm sure you'll agree, the interior has come up like new too.

It's actually a really tidy little van, it's clearly been well looked after before it was parked up. I've had a quote on a new screen which is £185+vat fitted, had a bit of a mare with the battery box as the bolts that hold the clamp had snapped so ordered a new box of ebay for £14 only to find the Ecu is screwed to it and is a utter sod to get off but that's sorted now and it's now got a running fault that I've found.

It will only rev too 3800rpm and starts chucking out whitey blue smoke that smells like diesel, not sure what is yet, its only been driven at 5 mph around a field for the last 2 years so hoping its a clogged EGR or DPF filter but I don't know yet.

That's a bonnie wee thing. I've got my eye on Fiestavans at the moment (see above).

It was the massive churning sensation that got me up. Normally I'm a very heavy sleeper and have slept through terrorist bombs going off.

That as well. Didn't realise there'd been anything blowing until I looked out of the window in the morning.

Was mini-cabbing then. Oh, that tree's blown over, strange - nothing else twigged. Had a Gatwick run, A23 was blocked. Got her to her plane on time though, just!

@clayts450- what was wrong with the 200? It looks really clean in the picture, what a shame.
I’m not in the market for another 600 but can you advertise it here first before scrapping it please?

Not much to report, me: still busy

Family: still keeping me busy

Mondeo estate: still flawless

Mondeo Hatchback: decided to work perfectly last couple of weeks. Amount of this due to my fixering=1% (merely clearing fault codes). More of the same please

Volvo: still looking pretty, needing some servicing and an mot but ready to be road worthy at the drop of a hat really, I just need some time to do the necessary and get it mot'd. Missing driving it, confident it will perform reliably.
