Stanky's Geep - fire sale

I've used this (Stokbord) for the floor of my trailer and while I think it's up to the job, I wouldn't use it as a direct replacement for plywood of the same thickness. It's a lot more flexible so requires more in the way of supports to prevent sagging.

Those lights on the back are just... wrong. They need to be smaller or bigger. Just not that size.

What are they from? Out are they just generic trailer lights?

5000/10 for finding something that clean for nowt though. The rest of it is full of excellence. Blue plastic excellence.

I hadn't seen it before, but now that you mention it I can't unsee it. Too high, too close together and the wrong around I think.

Needs a pair of generic truck lights (a la Jeep), or some Austin A30 lights down in the corners.

To me it's a bit of a conundrum. It isn't trying to be a Jeep, but at the same time it is.. do you embrace the Geep or the Jeep-ness of it?

Crude photoshop aside, I think I fixed it. Or made it less bad at least.

I did an actual mini sex wee over that.

I have a thing for Schwimmwagen, I won't use the weird colloquial plural -wägen because that's just weird.

Yep, a lot of Jeep CJs, Chevy C10s and the like have exactly those.

I'm pretty sure the seller said they were generic caravan tail lights.

The headlights are nice old Mini ones with the chrome surround (not fitted) and they look good, you go around the back and there's those! Something more stylish needed I reckon.

Had a good look at it and it's fine, no corrosion, all tubes and fins are good, plastic (non OE) tanks are both good.

It's also an upgrade over standard as it has more tubes than a standard Capri one.

Up to you...

They look the same as the lights on my Rialto.

I reckon that should fit - are you about during the week if I drop by on the way home from work?

I'll be around, only evening/afternoon I can't do is tonight as I'm out on overtime and I'm busy at work all day (0700-1600) tomorrow. But any other time should be doable. Let me know when you want to come and I'll have it ready.

I'll dust off all the dead flies as there's loads splattered on the outer face!

As that Jago is So good, would it be worth scouring ebay and the tree for a cheap, buggered but registered one?

Just saying....

Oi, the Samurai was held to be beautiful enough* to be Kit Car magazine's calendar model for 1985...

*though since a great deal of the other 'self-build automobiles' within this publication kind of resemble motorised potting sheds, I can agree that maybe choice was limited.

There's a feature on Limited Edition, the company producing the Jago and the Samurai, in this Dec '84 edition.

If you fancy a read, I'll post it on over to you - just PM me your address. Since I could do nowt for the collection event, it's the least I can do to show my support for this fine project.

EFA: it is indeed a 'Samuri', not Samurai - which was a Suzuki trademark. Although KC mag refers to it variously as 'Samuri', 'Samurai' and 'Sumari' at different points.

I reckon Land rover rear lights would suit that

Found the old coil too, It's a bit scabby but it definitely works.

From what I remember it looks more or less the same as the Jago's one?

Worth checking your old set up though, some are fitted with a ballast resistor some aren't. My ones for a non ballast resistor set up.

Non ballast resistor coils are standard 12v like this one.

Ballast resistor types are 9v and have a separate ballast resistor in their low tension circuit, usually somewhere very near the coil itself.

Old Fords had a section of resistance wire (white if I remember correctly) spliced into the live feed to the coil instead of a separate ballast resistor.

Makes sense. I know some old Fords did have a resistor in the system but I've never seen one with it.

From looking online it seems to be soldered into the wiring loom as a short section of resistance wire. To find it means stripping back the loom.

For extra shite points its real name is actually SAMURI, not Samurai as that was copyright of Suzuki. It sure does look like a Schwimmwagen but I imagine it's a lot less buoyant.

This theory needs testing.

Just realized my neighbor had a Samuri in about 1987.  It was finished in a lovely mix of pink and purple.
