Unsure wether to leave as is or satin black the top to mimic the original covering that has since disintegrated (p6 roof, not my shiny dome 😂) I was watching one of the yank YouTubers who had a land yacht with a similar baldness, they sprayed it with a textured bedliner for a pickup, to the camera at least it looked just like a vinyl top. HMC Posted April 6, 2023 Author Posted April 6, 2023 Its a tricky one as part of its appeal (to me) is that it looks like it does. I gathered the courage to temove the rear seats and hanve a good look at the structure there. Its mint. Too many are superficially tarted up and have hidden problems. I might need to do an early 80s dodgy dealer line up pic with shonky ado16 and p6 in the “px to clear” section of the lot. privatewire, Marm Toastsmith, eddyramrod and 1 other 4

They had basically disappeared 8 years after production finished whereas there used to be quite a number of ADO16s around up to the mid to late 80s being used as daily drivers. I wonder if familiarity bred contempt; If it was a rarely seen italian saloon of the era perhaps they would have emphasised its qualities more. At the time they were 10 a penny and utterly disposable. This very forum used to hold (still holds?) a similar view of the original ford ka, certainly 10 years ago this was the case on here.
timolloyd Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 Love the look of this P6. There was one of these outside every flat roofed pub in the late 80s.

HMC Posted April 7, 2023 Author Posted April 7, 2023 Went to a local autojumble where shiny car syndrome struck with a mates midget which was woken from slumber and ftp’d whereas im increasingly confident with the p6 and its improving with use (and rescuing midgets) At the show i got hold of some bound back issues of the automobile @barrett that im looking forward to reading, and the p6 wasnt even the most patinated car there… My mate steve that speciallises in small chassis triumph parts found some gearboxes to buy which didnt fit in the spitfire he came along in, so they where chucked in the book of the rover. Meanwhile back at home i lined up the rovers… And set to sorting the crappy running on the p4. I changes condensers and swapped with a good known coil all to no avail. I pulled the plugs and they were old and sooty, replaced those and noticed the choke was not adjusted correctly and wasnt fully home on the carb. Could a partly “on” choke mess the plugs up and cause the engine to run unevenly if it was rich? Anyway it seems to be running perfectly again after these findings and adjustments. Steve was also very taken with the unmolested originality of the minor and made me an offer over what i paid for it so thats going to be his. LightBulbFun, Rust Collector, egg and 13 others 16

ETCHY Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 The P6 is cool. Whenever i see one that's a bit 'cosmetically challenged' i always think of a series called i think 'the gaffer' as he had one. HMC 1
HMC Posted April 8, 2023 Author Posted April 8, 2023 p4 news Went for a bit of a potter along some remote unmarked roads over the edge of dartmoor. The p4 then conked out in the middle of nowhere. No fuel was getting to the carb, a kind lady passed by and gave us some fuel (the guage doesnt work but i was suprised that it might be empty) and still no fuel being pumped. My diagnosis is thhat the diagragm in the pump has failed, maybe old age +/- E10? anyway we walked (miles) to a pub, had a drink and have caught the bus back to tavistock. Ive got a new pump in the stash that came with it so im going back out there later to (hopefully) revive it. Coprolalia, mk2_craig, Cookiesouwest and 7 others 4 6
SiC Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Did the fuel tank reserve switch not work? Some years use a valve, some years use a second pump. If the diaphragm had failed, I'd expected to be pumping like crazy as fuel isn't building up pressure. Check the terminals on the pump aren't loose. Mine were simply.
2flags Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Just saw this on Facebook. #Ad - 1962 Rover P4 80 with just 35k miles Full listing on eBay — Have you sold the P4?
LightBulbFun Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 if the P6 goes up for sale next, (and it really is as solid as it is shabby up top), then Im going to have some serious wibble moments... I would defo have a couple roffle tickets that for sure NorthernMonkey 1
2flags Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 I have the paint for this, almond. Okay, it's nearly 40yrs old, cellulose and I have about 4 1/2 litres of it. If you want it you are welcome to it. HMC 1

HMC Posted April 10, 2023 Author Posted April 10, 2023 Yes, the p4 has been sold. @Junkman was a believer in haunted cars, so am i; or at least haunted model ranges in my case. Ive detailed it in the p4 sale thread. So as related in the focus sale thread, i got bored of that and am selling it. It was a tesco value ham sandwich and sometimes that just isnt enough. As @dome says, life is too short for boring cars. Which brings me to its replacement, a shabby lpg converted 90s s class; which to continue the food analogy presumably is a fat bratwurst that has seen out its best before date? dome, RayMK, Erebus and 22 others 23 2
Yoss Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Hmm... And you thought the P4 was unreliable? At least that was fixable. Asimo 1

Aye but a good bratwurst just needs the minging ends cut off and the remainder is fine... Not sure how you use that metaphor mit ein Mercedes-auto?
grogee Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 I really like those Mercs. Shabby LPG just adds to the fun: it might break down, but also it might blow up. Does it have double glazing? Marm Toastsmith 1
