Have you noticed feedback of the other seller 75% out of 94?That is really bad by ebay standards. Perhaps he realized how much interest my advert  gotand he wanted to follow it.Would you trust someone with such a bad feedback?

 

It amazes me how much interest i have got since I listed it.Almost 500 views and 15 watchers. Some say price is high for 20 years old Polish car. Obviously you will buy something cheaper but I am willing to sell the car with all its issues sorted out so the next owner will be able to enjoy it straight away.Obviously I can not give guarantees because at the end of it all it is 20 years Polonez not brand new Porsche.But I do my best within reason. Some people would prefer it original without LPG installation.This can be done and for a small fee of £100 I can remove LPG.LPG tank takes spare wheels space so you have less of a boot space.

Please ask me some questions.

Unfortunately Polonez is the last of truly Polish cars. Bad management,financial problems and lack of vision made FSO degrading after they ceased Polonez production.In 1990 Polonez was the most popular car in Poland costing 1/3 of brand new german or french similar sized car. They say that at its peak in mid 1996 20% of all passenger cars in Poland were Polonezes.Nowadays they are rare and people wave back to me when they see me in my Polonez on the road.Some people have nostalgia about them because for many that was their first car 20 or so years ago.

Surprisingly Polonez was very safe car.Watch crash test on youtube and you will be surprised.After hitting a wall at 30mph you could just open a driver door without a problem. Some say its technology is rather outdated but in communist time any one could fix it and it construction was robust to deal with bad quality of roads. It has had many versions including truch that could even carry a ton of load.There were ambulances, extended versions,three door coupes,race versions with powerful 2.0 engines.They even made 4x4.

It does look lovely and very clean but an enthusiast would be able to find allegro.pl where similar cars are available for <£1000, I know you're trying to make money here but it's not going to cost you a grand to drive it here on LPG.

A friend paid a lot less than that including import, NOVA and MOT/registration for a mint GLi not that long ago. There isn't really demand for these in the UK outside a very tiny group of people, and they already have them, the only 'nez' they'd be after is a 3 door 'coupe' version tbh

I really liked the blezz I had in Edd's Polonez CE; for me it'd need to be a red MR87 with a Fiat 1500 engine and white Wellers.

Good luck with the sale and all that, but the reason they're not around anymore was because they were truly shit.  Far, far worse than the Allegros to Yugos that the hard of understanding trundle out as the worst cars ever sold, by a mile.

Fortunately emissions killed them off, but even the garages who specialised in discounts for the taxi trade stopped selling them new as soon as their contracts allowed.

I see yours has lpg, like the last of the run outs to beg the taxi boys to buy, that will be coupled to a heater jammed on hot, just as well as the electric windows would have packed in, with the window dropped, before the car drove off the forecourt.

Mine and my dad's, in 1996.  They were easily the best cars we could afford at the time, strong and comfortable.  There was literally nothing to touch them on the used market, not even Ladas, which we'd already owned and enjoyed for the same reasons.  It doesn't all have to be about Nurburgring handling or F-4 Phantom acceleration; it doesn't even have to be about cool or bling (says the man on his third Cadillac).  Sometimes it's about getting you where you want to go without breaking your back, at a price you can afford, and that's what these did.  I'd have another one tonight.

 

However, that "other one" would NOT be an unregistered LHD import with an unknown-quantity LPG fitment, and especially not at 15 times the price I paid for my eight-year-old example in 1994.

 

That said, GLWTS.  You're more likely to find a UK Polonez-licker here than anywhere else on the web, but one thing we have in common with the first owners of such cars is, we don't have that kind of money.

Not in the slightest.  I had an Estelle after this.  No contest.  The Skoda was ahead on lightness, which in turn gave it more agile/less soggy handling, but I'd rather have the strength and comfort.  To be fair, I never had a Rapid, which I'm led to believe could live up to its name, but given the comparison I was able to make, there's no rush.  I'd have another Polonez long before I'd have another Skoda.

One of my mates at Uni had an FSO between 1990-1993. It was bloody awful, heavy, horrible inside and drank like George Best but it was built like a tank. She went up the backside of a Sierra which was nearly written off. The FSO needed a new bumper and the wing hammering back a bit. It wasn't this model though.

Last one I saw was a former colleague had an F reg one in blue, he got it for free and only had it for an unders banger meeting. It was rock hard too! I've not seen another since and that one must have been about 2004ish.

 

I actually like them tbh, they look a bit awkward in a typical soviet car sort of way and they are built like tanks which is always good. I'd happily have one, earlier the better.

Never really piqued my interest these. Don't think they sold many in Northern Ireland. Plenty of Ladas over here though so if a riva came up for the right money (unlikely) I'd be tempted.

They ain't all bad. I've a blue Polon thingy I bought from a senior Crewe based member on here, somewhere.

 

I use it from time to time, ( can't remember where I left it!) and it's actually pretty competent.

 

For those who don't know me, I've a pretty wide range of Eastern bloc chord, ranging from several Trabs, thru Yugosof indeterminate patronage, Warties, Barkas etc etc to a couple of huge Gaz'.

 

I'd be quite happy to run the Polon thingy though the winter, if needed. A little dull, but happily competent.

 

If it's worth anything close to that asking price, I'm laughin!

they sold quite a few here in the republic; they were offered cheaper than ladas, n the FSO offered some sort of ridiculous- non government initiative 'trade in scrappage scheme' where they'd knock off quite a bit if you dragged in your current decrepit heap - even if it was on its last legs; the sales pitch was 'why buy a secondhand car, when you can have a new car for the price of a secondhand'...so quite a few folk, took the punt!

 

...My old mans pub mate bought one from knew; it was constantly breaking down on him, n generally a sore point but the old man needed 'any car with a towbar' to tow a small trailor when we were clearing out the garage, so borrowed the Polonez... naturally it overheated several times, had a shagged engine mount n also drank quite a bit of juice on the 12 mile round trip to the dump - on the way back the old man was giving it some stick into the petrol station n launched on the brake heavily - one of the front headlamp lenses ejected itself off the front end... he couldn't wait to hand it back!!

I wish all the modern cars had that kind of level of safety.Obviously it was 1993 and it did not have an airbag but if it did you could hit a wall at 30 mph,open the door ,swear that you destroyed your beautiful car and walk home saying to yourself "I am glad I was in Polonez"

Well yes and no considering it is not eaten by rust and will be delivered in good working order.Sure you can buy one for £1000 or even less but this would be so rotten that you would not want to even look at it.  

The point is I am not trying to prove to anybody it is the best car in the world or even the best value for money.It is just different and if you are bored of modern cars and have a bit of courage and sense of humour you could get something that virtually no one has it. People buy some oldtimers that cost £200000 and are virtually undriveable with handling of a wheelbarrow but they do because they like having something unique. I guess RHD Polonezes are virtually extinct so if you want one you have to stick to LHD, 

In terms of reliability they are not great but would not say horrible.Any car of that age requires more attention.I own Caro 1.9 GLD diesel powered and must say it is very reliable. Perhaps the most reliable engine Polonez has ever had.I own also Mercedes CLS V6 that has 3 times more powerful engine and much better comfort for driver and passengers but still like Polonez for its unique flavour.  I am so eager to jump on it after week or two of driving Mercedes. It is so much different experience I love it.

I have also driven Edd's left hooker Polonez and also rather enjoyed it. I was almost disappointed that it wasn't more dreadful. Wouldn't pay a four figure sum for one, but then that's true of me and almost any car...

I knew I had felt that stiring a bucket of bricks feeling the ldv maxus had it was the FSO with its vague joystick excuse for a gearstick.
