My 3 series did the brake vibration thing. It also had pretty new discs on it, so I changed all the front control arms which helped a bit but didn’t cure it entirely. I ended up putting a set of ATE discs on (OE manufacturer and were about twice the cost of most other alternatives) which sorted it, that was about 12 months ago. I think both 3 and 5 series of this vintage have a habit of ruining cheap discs

Oddly BMW actually produces its own brake discs in house at a factory in Berlin. They're very good quality too. Recommended

It was such a relief to see the engine actually fits in the shell, once @GingerNuttz worked his magic.

Next up: 4 link kit and Volvo rear axle. The shell will be getting stitch welded too and some extra reinforcement to stiffen things up nicely. I've also got some reinforcement plates for the front suspension so it's safe to say it's going to handle well once it's all set up.

Not a lot else has happened as I have a severe lack of mojo for fettling just now.  I did give the BMW bodywork a going over today-clay bar, polish and wax and it's looking better.

It really needs a new bumper and bonnet, I'll keep my eyes open for one breaking in the right colour.

Well, I've not bought a car for a while. This one isn't very autoshite, although it's 23 years old and is leaking fluids from various places.

And we're in Arbroath.

I'm not saying it's backward here but news only reached here recently of the Titanic sinking.

I don't have the heart to tell them what just happened 😳

It's a manual(of course it fucking is) Carrera 4 from 2000 on 141k miles

So, a few things happened recently to remind me that life is short. Follow your dreams and all that.

After carefully looking at 6 of these over the last week I did the right thing and bought the cheapest one.

Shouldn't have any engine problems

IMG_20230623_173259.thumb.jpg.02908a4c640059df1d21978caefc89f8.jpg

Or bodywork problems

IMG_20230623_173303.thumb.jpg.93f51b0fe6f2cc35afcdae6e23e09f31.jpg

So as soon as I fix the engine and bodywork problems she'll be reet🤦‍♂️

It's deceased spec (not on a recent North Atlantic trip you'll be glad to hear) having been a chaps pride and joy for the past 8 years before he passed away.

This means service history is sparse but so far I've found.

So far I've found:

An exhaust and intake combo that's frankly orgasmic.

Coilovers

GT2 rear wing and wiper delete.

Air con delete

Correct Porsche rated Michelins all round which is frankly a miracle at the more exciting end of the market.

Recent brakes and coffin arms(well known suspension component that fails)

Smaller than you'd think. Blue. Fast. Noisy. Epic. And that's just the van

Is it as fast as the van?

It might outrun the van but the 530d would probably give it a run for it's money up to the century

I'd be torn between the van and the manta if I'm honest. How fast the porsche is though is surely academic. The point of speed was always more than just going fast. The noise, the smell, the rattles and shit. In the right car you can feel you're going 200 miles an hour going to the spar for milk.

You remember your Tri-ang too? :) But, of course, you're right.

That would've been one of the longer trips in the Seven replica! A 911 is sensible by comparison. Going to Spar for milk probably feels like going from the transporter to La Sarthe pits in a 911.

Well jell, as they say. Well boughted sir.

Carrera 4 with awd what are you some kind of big girls blouse?  Those bills are eye watering, they are for your car right? 😀

I am just kidding I have read  the awd makes them a bit more all weather usable rather than tweaky bum at 25mph as it's there's been some light drizzle.

It seems like a bit of mine field at the bottom end of the market but having the manual is a big plus never mind an engine rebuild receipt.

What horrors did you see on the other 6 you looked at.?
