Car-plans for 2016?

To finish the 3 door, I've only been waiting for it to go in for paint for about 2 1/2 years, that's the problem when you have high standards and you only trust one person to do it and they are very good at what they do, so are in demand, I've had a promise that it will be going in around late Feb, I'll believe it when I see it, I've ran out of things to spend money on until it's painted

Have a picture

attachicon.gifDSC_0695_zps246e95a7.jpg

To polish and drive my saph doing anything it needs on the way

attachicon.gifDSC_1298.JPG

This year I need to do any relevant work to the body and chassis of mrs fp's escort rs turbo so it can be repainted in the correct A9 black, it's going to look standard again

attachicon.gifDSC_1614.JPG

If I've got time after all this I'll make a start on my capri

One day I will buy a S2 Escort rs turbo. 8) Mercury grey, 90 spec. :-D I would keep it it fairly standard apart from a performance exhaust and engine. 200 BHP would do me, nothing silly.

Posted

MG,could do with a cambelt & a general tidy-up

Volvo,I'll probably keep buying others to break(2 so far) for the parts to make it the one I should have bought in the 1st place  :-D

Fiat, will have to go after promising Miss_155 that it would be gone from her garden by the end of the summer.

Posted

Civic - stay as missus daily. Boring and capable, just a bit shit on mpg. Unless I go mad and find a copen.

Xantia - I flip flop, capable car and veginess means reasonably cheap to run. But would love something more exciting. Perhaps another Saab. Realistically I would love a local small car then a big fast estate for the London/Scotland trips.

Starlet- collect from down south and use as a crail/autocross car. Should be fun.

Beyond that I think money will be tight this year. So maybe just anything I win in a raffle.

They are great things, 200bhp is easily achievable the only problem I see in them is the ke jetronic fuel system, the only sad thing is people forget that they are still only a mk4 escort, my advice would be buy on condition, checking for rot in the areas in between the front and rear number plates

Skizz - Any plans for the Dedra?

I was afraid you'd ask that.

Dedra sit rep: languishing in Hampshire with a charming eccentric genius who collects and intermittently fixes Italian shizzle, and is very difficult to get hold of. Doesn't really do modern communications, or people. I need to just go down there and talk to him, I think (he's better face to face), and drag it either home or to someone else for fixing.

It has suspected HGF and maybe a cracked block. I dare say it now has rust and sundry electrical problems too.

Summary: I'm half scared to open the lid on that one. No, that's wrong: I'm 99.7% scared.

205GTi - Keeper - Little needed beyond normal yearly thorough service. Will do the clutch cable though as it's a bit squeaky. (As all sorted 2013)

MX5 - Keeper - As above, the worst fault that needs sorting is the radio has died, bit annoyed as it's the original. (As all sorted 2014)

350YPVS - Keeper - Again as above but want to paint and fit the nose cone. (24 years ongoing sorting....)

406TD - Will be going this year to make way for new daily, good car, will be offered here first to anyone interested (OMGXUDVegMuncher)

New this year? A replacement daily, looking like another 156 but a T/S (pref 2.0) this time not a V6 for ease of maintenance.

Might get another bike as semi-project, not sure what or even if.

Mother's Bini's not going anywhere. We've had it 11 months and its charms still haven't worn off. Nice car, really. It's had a couple of minor issues (broken tailgate release, brake pad wear sensor and washer fluid fill sensor) but that's it. Regularly gets 40+ mpg too.

Old Man's A4: ???. Can't say. Based on 2015 it's as likely to stay as it is to go. Depends entirely on money, and if anything interesting comes up (ie a low miles A3 quattro). However the mother likes it, it's decent on fuel for a V6 and it's only on 80k so there's a pretty good chance it'll hang around.

Will I get my own car? Probably not, bloody insurance. Won't need one living in central Manchester anyway.

Honda Accord coupe - Continue to drive round with fingers crossed and wait for either the extremely time expired cam belt to snap or the shonky gearbox to blow up, it continues to be reliable.wafty and quick if requested. In a bit of a catch 22 situation with it in that I don't want to spend the £450 I've been quoted for the cam belt and water pump and then have the gearbox shit it's self the next week, it's also not tidy enough to merit spending a couple of grand on a box rebuild and then more on cam belt/water pump/Valve adjustment needed.

Lexus RX - Wife has new job with more travelling so this may go at some point later this year for something newer, need to get a few miles out of it to pay back the mega service and cambelt cost in sept last year (£1000) as I thought we were keeping it long term so I went to town with all the fluids being changed and new discs on the front, it will probably be replaced by a GS or IS.

However the fuel card she's been given will be hammered between now and then, it's averaging 23 empeegees on it's daily commute.

Long roof?

Posted

I would like:

StreetRover

City Rover

Laguna Mk2 diesel

Laguna Mk1 petrol

Chrysler PMT Cruiser

Transit Di

..and to find somethings (note plural) far worse than I've owned before. I quite fancy at least one crap Chinese moped or motorbike too.

On top of that, a few more Corsa Bs, a Mk3 Astra or two and some more XUD powered stuff.

Oh, I want another recovery truck at some point.

Posted

My biggest problem is financing anything at the moment. But if I can, I quite fancy something fast and diesel like a remapped Mk4Golf (awaits flames) or a 406 HDI coupe.

Otherwise, whatever comes up at the right money or that I win in a raffle.

Posted

This year I should really get round to selling my XM diesel estate so that I can concentrate on my V6 XM, which I'm utterly in love with. I also need to keep scouring the internet for various suspension parts for it that are becoming difficult to find.

Plan A: Somehow escape the clutches of modern finance deal... Replace modern with e34, 190e, XM, or similar.

Improve MX5 cosmetically, then sell in favour of a Porsche 924

Find a summer project - then learn how to do stuff to fix it!

Plan B: Continue exactly as I have done in 2015...

I'm hoping for plan A!

Posted

Civic - will be shifted on very soon. It's MOT expires at the beginning of March so I will probably get it tested within the 28 days and advertise.

Omega - in two minds whether to keep it or sell. Only time will tell.

Vectra - the outcome of tomorrow's MOT will determine its fate. Fix up and use is the likely option.

Rover (AS bike) - probably shift on at some point as its role is now defunct with the Vectra purchase.

E38 730i - I have no plans to sell this anytime soon, so probably continue using it, although I do have a hankering for another Jag. See what happens, if something comes up then it might be sold.

Sierra - get some use out of it then decide whether I want to keep it or not!

1986 E23 728i - didn't see the road at all during 2015. It has had most of the work done to it that needed doing but has been neglected for a few months now. I NEED to get it back out and get her fired up and in for an MOT so that I can get it out on the road this year.

1982 E23 728i - hasn't turned a wheel since the MOT expired in July. It needs plenty of work it's just finding the time to do it and the free time I did have over the summer was sorting the other E23. The focus will turn to this one once the green one is through a test. If I'm lucky and knuckle down with it I might even have it on the road this year as well.

Toledo - I was going to keep for 2016 and then move on. I'm unsure whether that is going to continue being the plan though.

I really do need to reduce the fleet and concentrate more on the cars I want to keep!

Posted

Mercedes W124-need to get a new heater fan fitted, as I cannot drive it on any but the warmest, driest days in Winter. Will also get the front jacking points welded up seeing as it was an advisory on the MOT.

Sell the modern-VW T5. Spend a few years getting it how I want it, but now it's done, it sort of lost it's appeal. And I rarely use it to carry my bike to track days as I prefer riding to them. What to do with the money though......?

Bought a Saab 9-5 earlier this week, a real cheapy, just to see if its likeable enough to spend a load of money on a newer one. It's great, so will keep running it until MOT time and then see if its worth keeping. I am determined not to spend any money on it unless absolutely essential. Later model wheels maybe essential.

And motorbikes. I may have a bit of a clear out of some of the bikes I tax, MOT and insure but don't ride often. I do love the small French Monet Goyon I purchased last year (but have yet to do anything to it except wiping it over with an oily rag) so looking for other French bikes. Old British and Japanese stuff just seem to lack the charm of the French bikes.

Option 1

Beige cortina- give it to one of those white room twats to sell.

2.3 estate- weld up, ticket, sell as project.

Blue cortina- strip to rolling shell sell to banger boys for the all cortina meet in july.

Partner van- carry on using it as dry storage.

Lupo- hoping it'll finally go back on the road this year.

Daily fiesta- turned into a zanussi after epic MOT fail

Option 2

Beige Cortina- goes back into daily use after two years on the bench.

2.3 estate- becomes 2.9 efi, left looking like national lampoons does mad max.

Blue Cortina- gets restored to some degree, and flopped on.

Partner van- becomes a zanussi. The shite it contains goes on ebay/to the tip.

Lupo- same as option 1

Fiesta- ditto.

I'm just planning on keeping all the stuff I've already got. No plans to sell any of them. Though I do really want another Volvo 740GLE so I might keep an eye out for a good one.

The Mercury, now the engine is rebuilt I'm just planning on running it as much as possible.

Granada, I'll try to get some of the rusty bits welded and tidy it up a bit. It'll never be a show car but I like the rough scabby old shed look it's got.

Capri, maybe 2016 will be the year this one gets the restoring it's starting to need. If not it'll be used and enjoyed all year.

Transit, I will finish the camper conversion work this year and hopefully use it.

Where to start.......

P38 is continuing to prove itself as a daily runner despite the breeds bad rep and clicking 188k this week.

Just bought new pollen filters for it as I think the factory originals are still in there, and are letting a bit of water in when it rains heavy

If I keep hold of it then it will get used for hauling the pack around, and means keeping SWMBO's Disco 3 clean will be much easier

Thinking of taking it green laning as well, been a while since I last did any

Escort 4x4 is awaiting it's turn for some love.Currently sat in the garage whilst I collect parts for it

The Rover 214 will be put into service as and when the weather dries up,it's sat outside the front door looking v small amongst it's companions

Need to find a replacement door card for it,and re-attach the rear spoiler as the White bathroom sealant has given up the ghost !!!

Iveco Iris Minibus/camper is coming along at a steady pace.Just finished blacking out some of the windows prior to more insulation.

Picked up a full shower/toilet unit and hot water boiler for a good price just before Xmas, although 1of the roof vents seems to have sprung a leak these last few weeks........At least it's done it now, before we get too far in

The RF900 is keeping the Escort company whilst the roads around here are awash with cowshit and mud/

Got a few mods lined up for it when time/room allows (Usd forks/new nosecone..)

No plans/room to get more as we need to concentrate on the house, garage and garden this year

Been here a year and we are still unpacking boxes........

The w210 is up for sale but as its priced higher than most so time will tell if it goes or not. If it doesn't go for what I need for it I'll probably keep it and sell the e46.

It's a tricky one as both are good cars and have enough of their respective marques good qualities from before they went downhill-the Merc is quiet, supremely comfortable and capable of covering ground far quicker than anything that size should.

The BMW is quiet, taught and has a proper BMW engine, even if it does run on diesel. And covers ground faster than the Merc.

The upshot is both are very good at similar things but as I only have space for two cars and they are both fairly sensible one has to go to make way for a toy.

I was in talks about the purchase of a Manta which is one of my dream cars, however the seller has gone cold on me and its a lot of money which could be put to better use.

TL:DR-Fuck knows, ask me in a year or so...

Gawd. I've been offered a 2.5 estate at mates rates. I think I've managed to resist as it doesn't have an MOT and is 200 miles away.

CONCLUSIONS

I have too many cars. But I like it this way.

Posted

Daimler - rolling resto. First bits to do are a new downpipe and centre exhaust, and sort the iffy brakes. For the rear inboards I'll just renew everything as atleast it'll be sorted then, and fingers crossed that will get it a new MoT in April. I can see costs getting silly, so will either slow down on the non-essential jobs or make friends with a 0% credit card!

Cavalier - keep. Best 300 quid I spent last year as it performs the role of reliable shite perfectly. Needs front brake discs and pads soon.

Metro - keep and use more, but I say that every year.

Mondeo - being used for load lugging abilities for the next month or so then will move on.

This year won't see many more purchases as I feel pretty settled with things at the moment, but I have a bit of a hankering to try a Rover 600 and Citroen XM. So I may have a 'fleeting fourth' in the fleet this year as it's stupid to think I won't feel the urge at some point. Must be cheap though.

Posted

Something cheap (likely a ped) to get me to Uni one day a week and avoid the £10/day parking fee.

Almera here to stay, some minor fettling.

C8 hopefully another 2 to 3 years out of this before something French and Electrical happens to it.

Vespa, will finish putting this back together for summer rides out only, its too fragile for anything else.

Xantia, lies in wait for a new AL4 transplant and lots of welding.

Posted

205 1.9TD - Save few remaining parts from smashed up shell and bridge it.

205 1.7TD - Returning to Arthur Foxhake in London tomorrow.

Saxo 1.5 D - Save engine and few other useful parts and scrap it.

Lada Samara 1.5 - Finish welding and sell on with or without MOT.

Lada Niva 1.6 (Helga) - Save engine, drivetrain and any usable parts and scrap the rest.

Lada Niva 1.9 XUD9 - Fit new injection pump, MOT and dry store for future

Peugeot 106 1.5 D (Daily runner) - Fit Bosch pump for veg, and continue to run it till I go travelling.

Well, I know for sure the SD1 isn't going anywhere. Hopefully though it should be back on the road either this month or next for the first time since June 2014. I hope this year shall be more about using it than repairing it, but it's never guaranteed with an SD1!

The Daihatsu I'm not so sure about. As I've said elsewhere, unless I can justify somehow adding a third car to the fleet, either I replace it or I forego buying something else. My head says keep it, it's brilliant at what it does and I do still really like it. But I find myself increasingly drawn to things with diesel engines and hydropneumatic suspension, and I'd also like to try another Volvo 300 series at some point, just to see if they're as good as I remember.

So we'll see what happens...
