Ford Mogadondeo Mk1

Just got back from collecting my new Ford. Looks alright dunnit. Much prefer the estate versions to the hatch, they look more balanced I think and the wheels on this Ghia X are rather nice, plus the late Mk1 chrome grille treatment.

Initial thoughts are I think it'll grow on me rather than be an instant like. The gearchange and clutch are typical easy to use Ford so no issue there, and the 2 litre Zetec is my first experience of these and it's OK. Not that torquey and a bit harsh when thrashed, but nice and quiet at idle and when pootling around town. 3500rpm at 80 so not as leggy as the good old Cav. Ride and handling were better than expected, I was anticipating much dullness on that front (Sierra comparisons start to kick in). There's some random noises coming from the OS and the brakes pulse a bit, but when some tosspot cut me up on a roundabout they work very well as does the horn which is loud!

Mmm, lovely beige, but massive airbag wheel is gopping obviously.

This fugger is fully loaded with CD interchanger, aircon and cruise control which works. I've never had a car with cruise before so had a bit of fun playing with that through the boring M3 roadworks.

It's rank inside and stinks of fags, so a bit of OCD cleaning will happen at the weekend. Missing the tonneau cover which is a shame.

Plans are to run it for a few months, do tip runs etc and spend £0 doing fixages if possible. This will provide prime roffle fodder in the New Year I reckon...

Rare beasts are the mk1 mondeo. Especially estate and in that trim. Has it got the trip computer on this one? Think it went in place of the coin tray.

Yep, got the trip computer. Not sure if the display has gone to shit though, I'll check that one out.

Nice easy to drive cars, i had a lovely 2.0 Ghia X auto for a while and it was a crack8ng car till the autobox imploded.

Should be quite a well subscribed raffle when it's time comes.

That's lovely and right up my street. I've having a serious inking for a nice early Mk1 Mondeo 2.0 Ghia myself at the moment to replace the Sierra with.

Absolutely LOVE these. I had a mk1 saloon in 1.8 pez flavour a few years back. Cost me 250 notes and provided a year of sterling service.

Really really regret selling it.

From memory the zetec ate HT leads, get genuine Ford ones or decent branded ones as cheapo leads last no time.

Mine had the usual fucked bumpers too for added shite appeal

^^Thanks for the info. It did run a bit rough a few times so maybe new leads are in order. The rear bumper on this has a split and a chunk taken out of it, no need for gaffer tape yet. Give it a few weeks parked on the street here and it probably will.

PM me and I can sort you out with a set of NOS genuine leads for a very good price.

Nice Mondeo and rare in that spec even when new.

The early flavour mundano has started to appeal to me as well, in higher spec and now looking spare and clean in comparison to modern shite, plus as its a Ford it will eventually become collectable as nostalgia tax kicks in.

That looks class.

Me when I win next months inevitable raffle....

Mk1 mondeo is the mk2 escort of the 90's.

As in "where the fuck did they all go?"

Somebody near me still driving a tidy 2.0si saloon on an L plate.

The answer is the same for both- the oval.

I loved my old MK1 Mondy.

I will have dibs on this if I have space when it's for sale!

Where did you find my picture? The Rangey is just a regular shag. I wear my slutty stuff for Peugeots

That's well nice that is! Is the interior coming out for a full on Vulgarising or are you gonna save time and buy a Feu Orange instead??

This is one of those purchases that will need a full 5 hour session de-skank with a bucket of soapy water, toothbrushes in the air vents etc.  Even then it won't ever be mega clean again, it's seen use as a builders mule at some point so I won't go too mad with it!

Have you seen how much they go for now? Unless you're willing to go with a less odourific modern one, that is.

Ooh that's lovely.  The interior is just tipping into the more modern interior look with the deep dash and door cards that merge into the sides of the dashboard.

Normally I would avoid a Roffle like the plague for fear of winning, but not this. You do realise that you will get bored of it very quickly*

*I hope.
