Awww, it does have a bit of a sad face doesn't it.

Still a lovely thing.

Molto bello!

Our 147 was seven years old when we got it and the paint work was shoddy for such a young car. Lacquer peel and rust blisters.

I'd like a fast petrol version. It's the 164 3.0 I always hankered after.

Sweet purchase. Many years ago when I first bought my Rover 827Si, I spied one of these on Autotrader for summat around £1250, I felt a little down knowing that for a few hundred quid more I could have had one of these.

That said, I've never spent more than £850 buying a car and don't think I ever will. Keeping it down to 3-figure sum cars.

god only knows what a 147 GTA is like.

mental. just mental.  as was the 155, brera, and GTV that were trying to chase it round the evo triangle a few years back   (I was in the gtv, the 155 had no brakes, and the brakes on the brera caught fire lol)

Good. At least somebody on here managed to successfully buy an Alfa.

I'm still sore.

Been using this entirely uneventfully these last weeks; pleasant to cruise about in, and different/ tuneful enough to keep me interested. All was well untill last weekend......

I'd been running about with the fuel light on; but the gauge hovering between 1/4 and empty. Came to start it in the morning and after coughing the busso v6 died and refused to fire again. I switched cars and later on came back, added a 5l jerry can's worth to the tank. Still no joy. The following day I added another 5L and still plenty of cranking but it still refused to fire. Checked the fuel pump cut off reset- fine. Checked all related relays and fuses. A reluctant assistant could hear the pump priming in the tank. I disconnected the MAF- made no difference. It broke down at an unlit far end of an industrial estate and for a few days in snatched bits of time I was clambering around in the dark, in every sense.

There were a few other unexplored things ( immobiliser/ crank sensor playing up) but I'd read that the shape of the tank and the position of the fuel pick up, if the car is parked nose downhill ( it was just about) can cause problems like this if the car is very low on fuel. One guy apparently had to add 15L of fuel before it started properly. I Lobbed a final

Hopeful 5L in....... and it fired first turn of the key!

If you are in need of a few bits, give Autolusso a call, they are breaking two

They strip and ship

On some Astras half a dozen years ago, if you parked on a slope then it may refuse to fire up because it thought there was a low oil level issue. Epic sensor position fail in the sump.

It's the swirl pot that the fuel pump sits in . If you empty that then you may have to put quite a bit of fuel in to fill it back up . At least your close to a fuel station 😄

I used to get this with my sd1 if I parked it on a slope for a prolonged time. It needed 2 gallons to get it going. I only figured this out after taking the fuel pump out.

I had a 2.0 Twinspark 156 Sportwagon. Bought for £750 off eBay sight unseen as you do. Had an Alfa specialist do the belts ect before collection (that was another £400) and then it ran faultlessly for near on 18 months. Sold it with full MoT and the belts not needing doing for another 20,000 miles but nobody wanted it - ended up virtually giving it away for £450

Would I have another Alfa? Hell, yes :-)

Aside from a new tyre this barge has ( touch wood) been completely reliable, providing fun and satisfying banger wheels at a price that is at odds with the expensive sounding rasp when you floor it.

When Dermist posted up details of an early seicento sporting he had surplus to requirements and was breaking, with some free parts going, a plan was made to whizz up the m5 and lend a hand, as the oily bits of my cinquecento are identical. Said cinq has a bit of a tired engine, so having a replacement that can be fettled in readiness before the one in the car goes bang is the plan.

Filling the 166 up with bits as a second yellow seicento looks on nervously

Thanks goes to Dermist for his time and knowledge, and for donating a replacement engine/gearbox/rad for the cinquecento.

I Also got to look over the ex skizzer lancia Dedra turbo- the first time I've ever seen a Dedra in the flesh and a great project.

This has served brilliantly as a WBOD but with being waist deep in cars means its time for it to find a new home.

The MOT is till July late and its presently SORN. It's a great thing to drive, lovely engine rev hungry engine( uses no oil) and makes a gr9 noise, and the box and clutch are fine. No clunks or bangs or wandering over bumps so the suspendion bushes all seem in fine fettle. However, on a cold start there's what I suspect to be a rattle from the DMF which has been there the whole time I've had the alfa, hasn't got worse, and quietens down a lot when warm. Drives nicely, 2 new Pirellis, the other tyres including spare are a decent brand and have good tread. The paint is ok, no laquer peel but a fair few stone chips and parking grazes. Everything works, except the NSR lock on the central locking ( but works manually fine) I've taken it on lots of long trips and its mega comfy, quite economical on a cruise ( Also has cruise control which works perfectly, as do the heated seats. The aircon is a bit weak.

Comes with all books including service book, with alfa main dealer then alfa specialist service history right through to 2014. 2 Sets of keys, the remote locking and alarm work fine but one of the handsets is a bit temperamental.

Footman James will insure Alfas over 15yo on a classic policy which is handy to know.

With shiters discount I'd like £300

Fuck me I'd have that tomorrow if there wasn't a goona taking up space currently.

That like swapping a mild hangover for full blown aids.

Lovely colour, nice to see one that isn't silver.  It's only £48 for me to fly down to Exeter, but I really, really shouldn't, so GLWTS Matthew!

That is very tempting and sounds a proper bargain for someone!

All of the wants, none of the cans.

I'm sure it will find a home very soon.

Thank god this wasn't for sale last week , the thought of my mental daughter hammering down the Autoroute at 150 is not a good one.

I'll still buy a ticket or two for the Roffle though, obvs.

That is lovely, just up my street and with my 156 off the road for at least another week I need it!

Problem, Mrs Cyl wants me to buy her a horrid green car and I am resisting, so how can I buy one for myself!
