dome
Gutted for Toyota I'm a Porsche fan but that was cruel luck.
Junkman
This year's edition is going to be one of the more memorable ones in history to come. And let's not overlook Ford's triumphant comeback after a hiatus that lasted almost half a century. M'coli
I'd changed over to Quest to watch the end and it seemed fairly well set, then on the exit of a chicane, that lead Toyota slowed. It's one that will be talked about for many years to come, I'm glad I watched it live. Junkman
Junkman
Now I'm really looking forward to issue #85, because that Porsche vs. Toyota battle is going to take on 1960s Ford vs. Ferrari proportions.Plus, Doc Ullrich won't be idle either.Maybe I should get my sore arse in gear and finally buy me another ticket for 2017? I mean, it's been 30 years since I last went there.

Forty-two
It is building up to be a fantastic finish. I'm using a live stream on YouTube allied to Radio Le Mans commentary.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoXSKf-fyLk http://www.radiolemans.co/2016/06/12/le-mans-24h-2016/That stream was great, please don't tell me it was available for the whole race, I only caught the last hour or so. Such a shame for Toyota, anyone know what the fault was?
Junkman
Loss of power and that's all we will likely ever hear.To add insult to injury, since it didn't finish the last lap, it is considered not to have finished the race.So no matter which position it ultimately held, it won't be classed. dollywobbler
That stream was great, please don't tell me it was available for the whole race, I only caught the last hour or so. I only found that stream within the final few hours. Then it broke and I ended up on Junkman's recommended stream. I could have paid Eurosport a few quid again like last year, but the arseholes bombarded me with so much spam that I couldn't face it, especially as I was unable to watch any of it until today anyway. Forty-two
I had spent the whole race with imagination for pictures and Radio Le Mans for the commentary. I do enjoy the WEC but struggle to follow it, do you guys have any recommended sites?
dollywobbler
I have to say that the Radio Le Mans coverage took a massive dive downhill when the US chap handed over to the Geordie. The man just wouldn't shut up and even kept cutting across his co presenters. Pretty awful. Junkman
Junkman
I mustard mitt that I quite liked the Eurosport commentators.Since there are only two English accents - the one that I understand and the one I don't - they stuck to the one I understand most of the time. panhard65
The Toyota episode was very strange we were just opposite the Toyota pits and he just stopped and sat there. No one was running around and he wasn't doing anything for a while then fired it up and moved to the other end of the pit lane. Where he stopped and waited for the other Toyota to arrive then continued with the lap. They were disqualified because his last lap was 12 mins and over the alloted time to complete it. Basically Toyota cocked up big time. He did get a standing ovation though when he finally did cross the line. Junkman
According to what was ultimately published in the media, allegedly it was a turbocharger failure. If that is true, my guess is that while he was sitting there doing nothing, they remapped the computer and rebooted itto enable the car to limp on in naturally aspirated mode just to finish the last lap, which it must do to be classed.Alas, it turned out to be too little too late. The turbo failure could have been caused by leaning off the mixture too much for the last few laps to save petrol, thus raising the exhaust gas temperature into hyperspace.Again, this is just a guess of mine. AFAIK only the maximum amount of fuel per lap is defined, but one can useas little as one wishes.
jonny69
It sounded pretty rough as it rolled past Tertre Rouge. It was on its last legs. P65, sorry I didn't manage to hook up with you in the end. I normally put a bit more effort in but with all the letdown from the Ami and a couple of unexpected personal issues sort of pushed me over the edge and I just flopped into a heap for most of the trip! Pete-M
I'll be there this year, camping on the Porsche curves, i'll be in a yellow 911, pop over for a beer if you see me Bugger. Just seen this post. I was also camping at the Porsche curves, but in a GBFO Winnebago.

Zantimisfit
I am heading down on Wednesday night. Jealous! Keep promising myself to go back. Went a few times in the 80s before Mrs Misfit was on the scene.. Last time I went was when the Jag won for the first time (in that era anyway). Heres Andy Wallace trying not to run some marshalls over on the last lap ...and at the start. Camera technology less good in those days, in my hands anyway ..and during.. 155V6, Sir Snipes, dome and 5 others

spike60
The 1988 Jag win was the first year I went and have been most years since in batches due to circumstances etc. This year will be the 2nd in a row I've missed this time but I was at the Nurburgring 24h a couple of weeks ago. The N24 reminds me of the LM I remember, more people seem actually interested in the race as against "look at me, aren't I wacky" groups in France. The food is better and less corporate bullshit with Audi or whoever taking over huge swages of prime spectator spots. That said, I'll be back! Tickman
I watched Le Mans: Racing is everything the other day, Amazon prime thing which is available from 'other' sources and really enjoyed it. I now have a new found interest in it as I understand it a bit more!http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6628364/?ref_=nv_sr_2 Junkman
richardthestag
1991 was my virgin year - Mazda 787RB, Sauber Merc and Big Cat Shenanigans First year of the new pitlane and chicanes on the Mulsanne. Sat up on Tetre Rouge at dawn listening to that Mazda backing off into each of the chicanes and then Mulsanne corner. shit that was a noisy car. Sitting up there you could hear it coming through the Porsche curves. Have been back most years since trying to recreate that virgin experience, most years dont come close but it is a still a great Jolly Boys weekend away.
