Any Ford fans on the forum? I've been offered a 2.0 dohc sierra track/rally/hillclimb car in exchange for my Jumbuck.

It has a welded diff, roll cage, stripped interior, stainless exhaust etc.

It's was previously owned by Knockhill too.

Yay or Nay?

Depends. What will you do with it?

Unless you are going to track day it yourself I would say not.

Posted

Guess it's not road legal but if it was it'd have a certain street prescience!

Do it, could be a laugh. Looks like it used to have a light pod and a spoiler on it.

I saw the way those Sierras got treated when they were in use for their Knockhill rally experience days - I would expect it to be utterly ruined, but then its probably had new suspension etc and various repairs since then.

Could be a nice cheap way into motor sport, or track days, if that takes your fancy. Wouldn't have thought it's much good for daily road use anymore without some serious work though.

If it turns out to be knackered I'd imagine there's some parts on it that could be easily sold on.

I like it though!

banger  racers will pay good money for these now, there is a non contact series with just sierras called lightening rods

Posted

Nah there are much nicer sierras out there, it will have had bags of abuse and no doubt the shell will have damage, i would leave that unless your planning on taking up drift days, it would be a good starter cheap skidder

Posted

If you're gonna skid it, aye!

Clearly that's what it has been used for, recently.

Buy it, get someone to sit in the passenger side and give pace notes to the shops.

50 m, Jump (caution!) into immediate right hand bend severity 2 tightens (caution, don't cut [the corner, due to hazard on the inside]!

Probably better to support the light pod. It once had....

If it's like any of the ex rally cars I've seen over here itll have awful paint, and not a single straight panel.

However it'll be structurally sound and have relatively little rust.

They tend to be kept indoors and repainted all the time

Looks like it won't be getting painted. Ran out of paint already.

Ran out of paint already.

So does this mean you've half painted it?  Which half?

Does it look like that Nova?  :-D
