Six Cylinders Motoring Notes

It's a bit late, but here are a few photos from a recent FoD visit. The early morning sunlight catching the dumper in its warm glow...

And the Bedford recovery truck:

I noticed that the bed seems to be sagging a bit where the side beam has been cut away to slide the ramps in:

I woke up this morning to find a sunshine colour MG TF on the drive, so yesterday wasn't a dream!

Non car stuff this morning so I used the TF to enjoy driving to my errands.

This afternoon was more work for @Slowsilver as it was time to put some more cars into strorage. Then time to get the MG Metro out of storage ready for the BL day at Milton Keynes Museum Sunday.

Also on Sunday after 4:30pm is a general car gathering at the Barn Beefeater in Milton Keynes, I plan to take the Metro to after the BL show is finished.

That was filthy! It's no longer grey

Somewhere Chris has a 50/50 shot of the bonnet

Half cleaned bonnet does not really show up, but what a difference the jet wash made.

The result of all @beko1987efforts were several years of sitting are now cleaned off.

The lack of grill is because it is broken so I need a new one.

Headlights are the delay to getting it an MOT after all the effort @Talbot put into doing work to get it ready for the MOT.

The Mercedes 200TE felt a bit 2nd class as it got a bath using the second-hand soap water, still better than not getting a wash!

The Merc looked like a different car afterwards!

Mitsi needs a good machine polish when it's on the road and on the driveway though, the paint is very chalky. But pretty mint otherwise

White and red in particular seem to go chalky. Lack of lacquer?

The Metro also got a wash. Its the one that's is going to a show tomorrow so should have had most effort, but got the least. I do like washing small cars!

I think it's there somewhere, the unseasonal warm sunny weather didn't help, most of the products baked on unless I worked in really small areas/switched to my stuff rather than the chalky meguiars.

Be a quicker wash job next time though, so all isn't lost

A nice pair of metros there!

Glad the yellow one got saved and stayed on here. If anything, it makes it closer for others on here to buy it if it ever goes up for sale 😉

Presumably its going to have a quick visit to @Andyrew and his sparkly stick?

I would love Andyrew to have a look at it and see what he thinks.

@Zelandethrepossessed his Rover 110 today as I had not made my payments!

Well not quite like that, he is going to take to Milton Keynes Museum tomorrow and I was already taking the Metro.

Mitsu looks well shiny after the clean though, maybe more about paint, or application, quality?

The second Milton Keynes show of Sunday had a very different flavour and had a lot of fast Fords and similar. Different but also enjoyable and worth going even in a Metro.

Chod speed with the TF! :)

At first glance, that appears to be someone drinking a bottle of piss

Yes indeed.

I wish I had taken @Andyrew Allegro I have in my possession and found somebody to drive the Metro for me.

Today was a @Slowsilver afternoon. First was cure a misfire the Metro had developed coming back from BL day, turned out to be the points had closed to 8/1000 inch, a reset and test drive solved that one. The front o-s bumper was rattley as the bolt insert had broken away from the plastic corner bumper. A fuel hose clip and glue seems to have resolved the problem but we still need to see how long the repair lasts.  The Metro showed low antifreeze strength and was a strange colour so it had a cooling system drain. New antifreeze at 33% and it is all fit.

Next was the Rolls Royce, it came without a jack and originals are rare, old and expensive so I opted for a hydraulic bottle jack. I selected the 10 ton one not because the car is that heavy but it is taller at min height as a starting point for lifting the car. Slowsilver performed an experimental lift and we were happy it does the job. Next to fit it under the bonnet in the jack storage spot and again it fits nicely. We rubber covered the jack storage base plate with thick rubber and drilled holes for the tie down straps but ran out of time today so that will have to be finished another day.

Are you sure the Royce does not have built in jacks? Both of mine do and I thought it was standard.

I believe that was not introduced until 1934 and mine is a 1933 chassis.

We need to wash the rolls one day... It also wants paste wax, none of this modern ceramic bollocks 👌

I assume it's about 47% waterproof though?

Yes the carpets are wet!

It definitely could do with a clean as it still has Sahara sand over it and now bits of tree as well, looks like it is time for it to go away for the winter next week.
