I had a drive in a two-stroke 95 years ago.  Fantastic fun.

I read this too quickly and was wondering ‘how old is @wuvvum?’

I had to collect a friend from Oselli Engineering  where he had taken his MGB  and take him home this morning.  He likes cars even if he does have an MGB so I thought I would give him a treat and take him home in the E320 Coupe instead of my usual daily transport, the Clio. He absolutely loved it and is coming back this afternoon for a longer ride out.

Celebrating 10 years of our ZX TD Avantage estate car.

In 2009 I was offered via the Citroen Car Club a ZX 1.9 Avantage hatchback at a special price if I took it away that morning. The draw back was the glass factory sunroof had blown away while the lady was driving at 50 mph. I cut and painted black a temporary plywood sunroof lid and this is how it stayed. After a year or so it was needed by my neighbour and it moved next door.

The next ZX was a 1.9D Avantage Automatic always destined for Mrs6C's mother, we ran it for a few weeks to make sure it was a good one before it went to live in Wales.

I had a taste for ZXs now and bought myself a ZX TD Aura hatchback as my daily. It turned out to be the best of the lot, so comfy and faster than others. After a couple of years it went to Mrs6C's father in Wales.

While running the ZX TD Aura a 1996 ZX TD Avantage estate cropped up for sale and the ad read it was great for a modest sum. And so it was a good car and without any need of it I just bought it. It hung around being a spare car, loaned out to friends and my younger son who returned it says it was doing in his street cred! Mrs6C started using it  sometimes and liked it very much and so it is still with us 10 years and a bit later and done 55,000 miles in our ownership.

Now with a fresh MOT and the photos are today. Yes the bonnet paint is flat again! @beko1987

Just realised that both the cars I learnt clutch control in where red estate cars, never realised that until now LOL :)

(for those unaware I learnt clutch control in @Zelandeth's Lada and then this ZX!)

It's a bit beyond polishing now tbh... If it had a vw badge on 4hw front it'd be a rat look god and be worth a fortune 😂

What you want to do is a FOD paint job in the summer 👍

Anything happening at the FoD this Sunday?  Musical Offspring is rehearsing not too far away, and I'll be at something of a loose end for six hours or so.

Not really relevant, but a close reg to my wife's old Megane.

Seen here with my BX while we were putting a phone line to the house nearly 15 years ago now!

Really like a ZX for some reason.  They have a fantastic unburstable workhorse nature about them.  What was the order of the trim levels?  Is advantage just an advantage over walking or over other trims?  Where does Aura sit?  Did a bASe exist?

My partner had one up until a few years ago, it was her first car and we are trying to figure out what derivative it was.  Power steering, central locking and a CD player.  Nothing else apparently.  Turbot weasel estate.

Reflex - base

Avantage - mid spec

Aura - posh

Volcane - Sporty

Furio - very slightly sporting

There were also lots of special editions and later on there was Leader and SX.

I am not sure about your partners car. Our Avantage has electric front windows. I can't remember any ZX having a CD player as standard.

I have been informed that it had keep fit windows in the front, that might mean it was a lowly reflex.  This is pleasing to me.

Turbo D was not done in Reflex trim.

The plot thickens.  Maybe it was one of the later specials that was particularly miserly then.

The JCB needs a bit of a clean, but also, if I haven't lent out the scratter and press, I have about a tonne of cider apples to mill and press...

Are you doing it again now with some fibre optic?

Ooh, get you with your modern metrics! Wasn't it 'a load' in years past?

No plans to, as fibre optic is still a few miles away  - we only laid the cable to the nearest road around 400m from the house. So until fibre gets there, there's nothing to be gained. And TBH, we now get significantly faster connection over 4G than the 3-4 MBps over broadband. If only we'd known...

It is great you are coming over to fully service our JCB, don't forget your big boy tool kit as this is one of the hydraulic filters!
