Six-cylinder Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Yesterday I collected my AX from MOT, unfortunately they failed it for headlight alinement and then fixed it with no charge! I just need to get the wheels balanced now as the garage that put new tyres on it did a shit job. The MOT was done via my favourite garage and Mark the son is rebuilding a Triumph 2000 Auto estate originally destined to be a banger racer and showed me the exhaust repair he had found. The tin used for the repair had a best before date Aug 1996! wuvvum, hairnet, dollywobbler and 19 others 15 7

Can’t quote properly due to phone - the 6 people are from a maximum of 2 households. I’d love a look at that Toledo as much as anyone, but just thought I’d mention it. The post May meet for up to 30 people should be fine though.

This document (at link below) advises it will be six people OR two households; see clause 100 on page 30: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/963491/COVID-19_Response_-_Spring_2021.pdf Having said that, the legislation for this roadmap isn't obvious yet in the list of Statutory Instruments, unless I have missed it... and of course it's what's in the legislation that counts... That is not how I read it "outdoor gatherings (including in private gardens) of either 6 people (the Rule of 6) or 2 households will also be allowed" It says or 2 household which I took to mean if the number was greater than 6 it was ok as long as they were only from 2 households. Six-cylinder Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 1st purchase of 2021, bought Covid free, means I did not view it in advance of it being delivered, but the seller told me it was perfect! OK the true story is it is a sad bereavement sale from the previous owner’s sister. 170,000 mile no MOT, last MOTed Oct 2018 and done 3000 miles since. Part of the exhaust has fallen off. Hideous lacquer peel, broken front indicators and covered in green slime. Interior is worn with splits and the rear part of the headlining disintegrating. Also lots of mould. When I agreed to purchase it, it was a non runner and had no V5C. The Brucie Bonus is the V5C has been found and it now starts. It also has some history. In May 1993 I had a new Carlton 2.0i Club Estate as a company car, just like this one in Satin Red. I would like to save it and put it back on the road. I am thinking after 29th March, as travel restrictions are eased and up to 6 people can meet outside, maybe a few volunteers might like to help me give it a good clean and assess it and if it looks hopeful, prepare it for its MOT. brownnova, adw1977, Craig the Princess and 33 others 36

richardmorris Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 I don’t recall seeing an estate for many years.

Mrs6C Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 It appears to be a solid old thing and other than the lacquer peel, I'm sure it will look really nice when it has had a good clean inside and out. Burnside, Craig the Princess and wuvvum 3

Andyrew Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 As you will know that is both a sad and happy sight to see. But its in the right hands. i recall possibly a monza rear end on this and that the front bumper was rare due to no fog lights if IIRC. Wheels i think are earlier omega, they came from an E reg carlton saloon that had been updated to look a bit more like the later carltons. i broke it up for spares with him. I will give it a good go to get it back on the road. What is a Monza rear end? When I got my company Carlton Club I was disappointed that it did not have front fog lights. My boss choose the Carlton for me because previously I had been allowed to choose my own cars and had a Cavalier CDi. I managed to slide the Cavalier backwards into a ditch contacting an iron fence doing lots of light damage that was going to take weeks to sort out so my boss said he would let me have a new car, but he would choose it. I thought a punishment car was on the way, I had not been disciplined over the incident so thought I would escaped a Nova and be given an basic Astra. The company staff had been sworn to secrecy and when the day came my boss handed me the keys saying "I thought you would be safer in this" with a big grin on his face. Do you remember when my new Carlton was last in use and why it was taken off the road? MOT expired Oct 2019. Craig the Princess 1

I was 19/20 at the time and had opted for the CDi over the SRi for insurance, having stepped up from a mk2 1.8GLi. Curiously and almost definitely unrelated* the accident occurred shortly after I’d discovered the pneumatic rear shock valves in the boot and perhaps inflated them a bit too robustly as a handling experiment. Oh how I laughed sat in the fence with three wheels on my wagon deciding whether to call the AA, the police or my dad first...Happy days. BorniteIdentity, Six-cylinder and beko1987 1 1 1

Six-cylinder Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 I had to move my 2CV today for the first time since October so my friend could get his Nova out. As some may know when a 2CV stands for more than 3 months the fuel drains back and it takes a lot of cranking to get the fuel dragged back up into the carburettor or maybe never. Today was a good day because just a quick squirt of Easy Start and it was away on its own battery. It is very slippery thanks to @Zelandeth, when I took the cover off I could feel how well all the polish Zel had put on it is working and it is looking good. I will get it out in the summer for some fun in the sun. brownnova, Floatylight, wuvvum and 13 others 16

Six-cylinder Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 The second broken road spring of the year was on the C15 van. All fixed now and we had the cambelt changed at 213,653 miles as it was last done 5 years ago. 500tops, Floatylight, BorniteIdentity and 6 others 9
