Solent Shiters 2015!

Thanks to mercrocker for the thinking of the name "Solent Shiters" 8)

I know there's a few of us on the South Coast and surrounding areas, so do Southern shiters fancy having a meeting next year? It will give me incentive to get something rubbish again and it's always great to put faces to names.

If there's only a handful of us we can meet at a pub/field/car park (and try not to look like doggers with shitty cars) but it would nice to meet in a place where we can really relax.

If we all really pull our fingers out we could meet in Beaulieu. XJ40.com met in their showground and only had about 20 cars...There's 20 of us, Shirley?

So, if you're interested please state:

1: If you're interested (duh)

2: What time of year would be best? Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter?

3: Which county would be convenient for you to meet in?

Summer would be best for me. Only so I have enough time to get my act together and because I hate cold weather.

Hopefully we can come to some sort of compromise in regards to season and meeting place and make it fairly convenient for everyone.

Of course those from NORTHLAND are very welcome* to come if they're up for a roadtrip**!

Who's in? Book now to avoid disappointment...

**Jellied eels not compulsory on your first meeting

*Northern Vans must come with wooden knobs

Yeah I'd be up for this, since I can practically see the Solent from my house it'd be rude not to really.

I'm happy to travel a bit for a decent venue but equally happy to fester in a car park on portsdown hill (the one with Micks burgers is good, and has minimal amounts of doggers I believe) depending on numbers etc. I suppose the benefit of a car park meet is that its free, or close to free.

Don't mind re time of year, summer is always nicer than winter, but venues may be booked and/or more likely to charge just for the privilege of turning up. In the colder months they may see the opportunity to flog suspect meat products and weak tea as suitable recompense for the damage to their reputation of having a car park full of rusty, shitty cars for a day.

Agree that It'd be good to put faces to handles too.

Sounds good!

For me, anytime except winter, I hibernate over winter and it's cold and shitty!

One of the car parks on portsdown hill sounds good, beaulieu sounds good too. Hampshire seems about central on the south coast?

Somewhere not too busy and crowded would be ideal so we don't have to be on best behaviour!! Some of the tin we turn up in might dramatically lower the tone of the area!

And somewhere with big parking spaces, for me, would be ideal for what I'm planning on turning up in!

This is all looking good!    I suggested holding it over till after the New Year because I pretended I was busy.   Well, I am, but the real reason is I am shit scared of the cold weather (at least we are all softy southerners, now, I suppose....) and don't function too well until the sap starts rising again.  Neither do my vehicles, come to that.    I did initially think of Portsdown Hill, certainly somewhere like that would be fine with me.....

OK, in the Summer and in Hampshire. Sound good?

Outside Mick's does seem like the standard car-meet place around here. It does get overrun with Chavs in Corsas and 318is past 6 PM most days though...We'd probably scare 'em off though!

There's room to accommodate bigger cars there as well.

However, if we were to meet in Beaulieu, I could request we get put in the field, behind the main showground. That way we don't have to be too well behaved and there won't be any morons there (unless you include me).

Downside is we'd probably each be charged to get in, and if it's just 10 cars or so they will probably say no.

Can't it be somewhere nearer? #triggerworldproblems

Can't it be somewhere further away? #SVMworldproblems

Not a bad idea, although I suspect that most of us are (even) less interesting in real life than online...

If you want a venue with shite-appeal, may I recommend "Hilltop Cafe" near Salisbury ? It's a proper* american-style diner in the middle of nowhere, which has been going since the 1960s. They are used to hosting petrolheads, so a high-profile event like SS2015 is bound to interest them !

I'd be up for it. Home's Wokingham and boat's moored in Portchester so anywhere South-coast-ish is good for me

Yes, probably; possibly; maybe.

In essence 'yes' , as long as it fits in with life....

Posted

Possibly.

In a similar vein, it would be good to have another Kent shiter meetup, like the one we had towards the end of 2013.

I live near Bath so a cabby down the A36 to Hants would be easy and fun*

Count me in. You thinking an over-nighter? Any campsites down there we could over-run for the weekend?

Posted

My Dedra lives* near Portsmouth, which might be enough of an excuse for me to come along.  Spring/summer is good.

Live in Hampshire so up for it for sure.  I'd say sooner not later, p'haps I am getting old but I don't think far ahead!

Not keen to pay.  Hilltop Cafe sounds good to me - I've never been there so good to try something new and presumably it'd be free to park at least.

Can't say no now can I?   Up for anything really, agree with Lisbon - there is no need to pay but would be good to have a little bit of something else to meet up for.   Sausage and chips, for example.   Otherwise we run the risk as Partridge hints of finding each other boring in real life - bit like meeting that foxy tart off a chat site and finding she is a librarian with an obsession with buff filing cards.    Works elsewhere in the country, though?   Camping kind of means summer to me (wimp) but there is no reason why we cant have a winter meet up and extend it next year....I am pretty busy most weekends and work the others so that's why I was keen to leave it a bit so I can plan.  Spring?

Winter? Anything above zero in Scotland is classed summer. Would be up for a ridiculous run to Hampshire for bacon rolls and tea.

Will there be slice, or will we need to supply our own?

Dugong, I'll let you know mate.

Paying seems unpopular so that's Beulieulueiluelie out.

And it looks like Spring/Summer.

We could do an all nighter, I have one or two ideas for a venue if that's what we want.

How do I add a poll?

Me and my pogweasel red MX5 will be up for this.  The Sammy Miller motorbike museum seems to host meets - there was a Rover 800 one going on when I visited a few weeks back.  It has a big car park and a decent cafe attached, but obvs it's all mooootahbicycles.

^^We'll add that to the list of possible locations then.

Count me in please - summer, preferably in Hampshire, overnight or undernight...........

Posted

I'm in Portsmouth, so fairly central and South. Would be interested if you don't mind the fact that I own nothing properly shite. On the flip side though, I have a mate with a Wolseley 1100 who might also be interested. Spring and early summer would be fine for me.

Noted chaps.

Looking increasingly like a Hampshire meet....

OK, and that's 15 or so of us who are interested. Pretty good interested so far :-)

Surely, "Hampshite" would be a more appropriate name ?

Wherever you end up, please park your vehicles so that they look like a giant cock. I suggest using the pogweasel pink MX5 as the bell-end.

Photographic evidence from a suitable vantage point will be required, obviously.
