Makes a refreshing change from the usual stacked vw roof rack.

Popped along to Bikeweek in Daytona this weekend. Watched a couple of bands including a very good Johnny Cash tribute called Cold Hard Cash Show, drank ice cold beers served by ladies in their underwear and enjoyed a wonderfully different slice of life.

Looks like George Shuttleworth was there as well (with added tassels)

Haven't ridden this for months, last time was to the MOT and back! Today it's getting a long overdue once over: new front brake cable and investigation of the rattling camchain (on a Honda? Surely not!) for starters.

^^ What are the wheels off? I used to go through rear spoked wheels on my C90 something rotten which is the only reason I binned it off in the end. Brilliant little commuter bikes.

Got to work over Easter with no one else in the building so managed to empty a bit of the storeroom and plonk this on an old trolly in case I get bored and want something to do.

Hello all. A while ago someone asked for pictures of the gp100 I've got up and running finally. So here it is.

So there we are. It is unregistered, long story, dvla have no issues with it they just need a dating certificate for it.

Annoying thing is that the electrics which used to work now no longer do since I fiddled with wiring the engine up properly.

It rides fine mostly but it sometimes just cuts out for no apparent reason then takes a min or two to start again.

Only other issue is the gearbox leaks oil from a hole which I believe is an overflow or something. So not sure if it leaks because I over filled it or just the gearbox sprays oil over its insides which then drips out.

I've had it over a year now, it's had a new engine and little bits and pieces and will be perfect for commuting the 300m to my office or just being a weekend warrior in the summer.

If it cuts out it could be a duff condenser, used to happen on old Honda's like that.

Cheers, however its not on points. It runs on a cdi unit. I thought it might be the timing but this thing automatically adjusts apparently. I might have a fiddle with the magneto and see if it's aligned properly but I don't think it matters from reading the haynes manual

There are loads of Chinese/Malaysian step-thrus that have cast wheels, but one of the few with a drum brake is the Jialing JH-50/70:

I got a whole one that looked like it had been in the cut for five years for £33, had the wheels off for power coating and gave the rest away. Early Lifan LF110s have a drum on the front too, but I don't know of any others.

They weren't a straight on fit, you can't use the Chinese brake plate (probably for the best) cos the brake's on the other side. The Honda brake plate is too wide to sit properly in the Jialing wheel, but fortunately I have a mate whose shed boasts a fully-featured engineering shop  :-D

Ah, OK, I had a GP100 (v.briefly 30 years ago - I bought it, passed my test, sold it so only had it a month or so!) and I'm certain that one had points ignition. Your's is probably later/better than mine as yours has a disc f/end, mine was drum.

So I finished wrestling with the Cub's seized front brake cable - three hours to fit the replacement

Checking the condition of the camchain has to be simpler than the kind of cable routing that would tax a world-class gynaecologist, surely? Getting the flywheel off was a piece of cake, thanks to my newly-purchased £12 Special Tool:

But then I encountered that oldest of foes - the cheesemetal fastener   Oh well, out with the big drill...

I was all ready with the mole grips to wind out the stump, and it came out using fingers only... typical.

The chain looks OK, but the tensioner piston and spring were shagged, so hopefully replacing those will quieten things down a bit!

Based on my experience, change the chain, they are only a tenner, and can be done without lifting the head.usually what happens is the chain stretches to the point where the automatic tensioner reaches its max height and can't tension no more.

Cheers, I was wavering on the idea of just changing it anyway on the basis that I'm already in there, so now I will.

What would be a good brand to go for, DID maybe?

Did,always. Wemoto are good, cheap and quick. Don't forget to prime the tensioner weigh an oilcan when refitting,or it will rattle like as bastard!

Excellent, ta. One more thing... HBOL says the head has to be lifted to replace the chain, how'd you do it without resorting to this? Thanks again.

Its fiddly but worth it.remove sprocket from cam.undo the bolt holding the roller in the barrel, and feed thru into the stator housing.then feed chain thru.refitting is the reverse :-) hardest bit is lining the roller back up,but doesn't take long.

I'll have to find some disgusting pics on my GSX14 to grace this thread. It's on 108k now (I've done the last 100k of that) and gets washed annually (maybe).

In true autoshite fashion it's currently got no MOT. Needs stanchions, new steering stem & a bloody expensive fuel filter.
