Interesting* to see the box art showing a mix of orange and yellow interior plastics, as far as I know this should always have full orange, with the flatter engine scoop. Gulper gets yellow, and the oval scoop. Most of the time

Could be interested in the small black Pajero thing and the red Fiat Cinquecento if they're available @Christine?

I've put them in my shed now , in case my  old lady  moans   ..Pajero is a swb mk3  i think .. Cinquecento   is a   Majorette Seicento  with 1 wonky wheel , as the axle is slightly bent .  I'll go and get them out again later!

Stripped, primed, blacked and painted again already! I wasn't 100% happy with the main colour anyway, it's weird stuff and the more you put on, the less of a flip effect you get, and I'd put too much along one flank

Annoyance is I knew I was away for a few days, giving the paint a chance to harden before masking up for the pearl. Now I've got to sit on my hands, and I'm impatient.

Good to hear @bunglebus had a pleasant jaunt over to these shores - regrettably I was otherwise engaged while he was exploring the tat destinations of Belfast, but he certainly brought some luck to the Irish as all the local stores which had been diecast deserts for months were suddenly flush with abundance!

To the extent that he very kindly stashed some of the castings I'd been fruitlessly hunting for, and which I was able to scuttle over and retrieve later on that day...

This branch of Poundland had gone so far as to remove its empty Mattel pegs about a month back - and now it was a veritable cornucopia of Matchbox Mix L and Case A Hot Wheels.

I absolutely love the little red Alfa, it's such an appealing thing. And it was the last one, in that store anyway. Very pleased to have it, at last!

Hopefully we'll see a continuation of this kind of stock levels!

In a similar vein, I called into Tesco yesterday evening and was pleased to discover that the Great Diecast Drought seems to have come to an end here too:

IMG_20251107_214411.jpg.f5c58057762a2b8966881474c960de18.jpg

Clearly, I was quivering with excitement to the point the camera went all shaky.

Nothing else from the L Mix that I particularly wanted though, or hadn't already found. Surprisingly, all the Duettos and Mustangs had been snaffled here too but there were plenty of BMW 1 Series and Impreza WRX.

Although there were also these, on the pegs above:

New Hot Wheels Silver mini-collection of five Pontiac models is a new one on me. There were only these two left; ultimately I brought the Firebird home with me. The extra detailing looks really good on it.

I dithered over whether to get that one as well, think I made the wrong call not to!

Others in the range include a GTO, a GTX and I think some sort of more modern one (will check later).

The additional detail really makes them pop over the standard mainlines (as you'd hope, at more than twice the price!) - I have the regular Firebird in blue and in white from last year, and this one makes them look a bit meh.

I'll get some pics up later.

Nice!👍 love the model of the Council Estate Volvo.

Ive got absolutely no idea where that Minx came from. I remember painting it in that pale blue but nothing else about it. It’s old though. I’m sure I got it back in the 90’s.
Cambridge definitely looks like the copy of the old Matchbox one now you see them side by side.

That TPM kit Capri actually has a nicer made front end than the Oxford Diecast version I think!

Bernard Taylor's cars were superb, fiddly to assemble but they really look the part and you've done a great job on that one. Shame things went so wrong and he had to close down.

There was some discussion of Midget Models here recently. All their products appear to be (presumably unlicensed) copies of old toys from Matchbox, Budgie and Dublo Dinky. Ironically the Midget kits are probably now harder to find and more expensive than playworn originals. EDIT: it was actually a year ago and kicked off when @bunglebus found one of their Budgie copy Beetles.

I wondered what happened to TPM kits/models. A shame they stopped trading. I think (might be wrong) that Capri originally had a set of tiny etched wipers and door mirrors too, but they’ve long gone missing.

Were there many Midget models copies then? That Cambridge is the only one I can remember seeing.

Bernard has made references on RMweb to a disastrous premises move in 2013 that resulted in a lot of stuff getting destroyed, and his website hasn't been updated since then. It must be a painful memory so I'm not going to press him for more details.

Midget Models did a fair range. From memory there was also:

  • Singer Roadster (Dinky Dublo)
  • VW Beetle (Budgie) - bunglebus has a couple of these
  • Austin Westminster Countryman (Budgie)
  • Wolseley 6/80 (Budgie)
  • Jaguar Mk2 (Matchbox)
  • Vauxhall Victor (Matchbox)
  • Wolseley 1500 (Matchbox)
  • Morris Minor (Matchbox?)
  • MGA (not sure what this is based on)

And probably others too. I can't recall ever seeing any for sale and this is the first one I've owned.

A fair few then.

Ive got the Matchbox Jag mk2 and Vauxhall Victor originals here somewhere. Possibly a Budgie Wolseley too.

It’s funny the copies are actually so rare. I’d have thought they’d have wound up on lots of model railway layouts over years. Although it’s also possible they weren’t made in big numbers?
