Interesting, CMC are apprently doing a new line of Vanguards based Hot Hatches. This is bad news for me and my weak will...

I’m off to order one…

EDIT - scratch that, looks like you get stuck in a repeat order scheme.

Orderd mine as well! 😁A tenner posted for a Vanguards XR3i can't be missed. 1/43 hot hatches are a big part of my collection, so might be a nice opportunity to get some Vanguards castings I've been priced out of, even at full price, they'll be cheaper than the Vanguards prices.

Clever move from Guy Stainthorpe, his part work experience coming to the fore again. Should get a few extra quid in Corgi's coffers.

Apparently its the same as the other CMC releases, you can choose to take or skip as many as you want. Even if I take half a dozen a year,  I've bought almost as many Vanguards as that already this year... And you're under no obligation anyway after the first purchase. I think a few of the chaps on here subscribe to the CMC Corgi 1960s re-issue collection, and it all seems above board.

I've just been on the FB Vanguards site and apparently if you enter a different code, you only pay postage,

Holy shit, that's three whole quid posted for a second one! (Which my brother has already called dibs on...)

Went for a mooch around town this morning. Diecast wasn't uppermost in my mind, which was just as well since most places hadn't a lot to tickle my fancy.

Entertainer had received some Hot Wheels L-cases, but they'd been pretty well picked through.

Poundland had some recent Matchbox, but all stuff I either have already (blue Astra, black Commodore) or don't much fancy (BMW 7 Series, which I changed my mind about once I saw it in real life).

I discovered that two other Poundland branches in my general orbit are closing their doors (Ann St and Longwood), further diminishing Matchbox opportunities.

Finally found a Hot Wheels Mk6 Escort priced at less than a fiver, in the model shop at Smithfield. They also had the Alfa Giulia Ti from the K-case, and an F40 from the L-case, but I left those for some other lucky hunter.

IMG-20250809-WA00102.jpeg.76c57246cb7b5b45994d7ef90785173d.jpeg

The Rover SD1 wasn't found in the wild, sadly - an AliExpress order doesn't quite garner the same thrill of the chase, but is at least moderately dependable.

Really looking forward to opening this one!

Chad Valley, a brand now owned by Sainsbury's/Argos and used mainly to rebound shite HTI generics. As im sure many of us will remember it was once owned by Woolworths and used extensively through the 80s until their demise.

Lots of different toy manufacturers were repackaged as Chad Valley such as these Zylmex orphans now branded Juniors but still made by Zyll. Neither appear to have made it over to Motormax.

Kid Connection 1:87 trucks sold at Asda in the early 2000s when supermarkets got really aggressive with the pricing of their diecasts, probably trying to put the independents out of business! These Motormax produced ex Zylmex castings cost something silly like 78p which even back then was stupidly cheap!

Does anyone still want/need a Cortina? I picked these up in case anyone wants to buy/trade.

Aldi must surely be in the front running for being the best, and certainly the cheapest, UK retailer selling basic Hot Wheels mainlines. My store was stuffed full of Case L just a week ago and is already now on Case M! If by some miracle you haven't found the Lotus Cortina this is the retailer to find em! 😉

Sold also as the Plymouth Horizon and quite popular in the US.

Engine was initially Simca but quickly adopted a VW unit together with the gearbox.

There was also a 2.2 and 2.2 Turbo although knowing the US it was probably producing about 75bhp 😅

There's a 1/25 scale version too!

The turbo ones ( Shelby  GLH) have a cult following & are I believe quite rapid.

If anyone ordering the Corgi XR3i would get two, I'd very much like one as I had a 1/1

I had a MkIV as well so if they do a model of that as well then...

Today's boot sale highlights include more boxed Matchbox/Dinkys. I'm quite surprised how many different ones there are, I just had the Beetle, 57 Chevy 2 door pillarless hardtop and 59 Cadillac when I was growing up, and I've no idea how I ended up with them

I remember seeing this green Solido/century of cars Nissan Prairie at the toy fair several times, and not being able to decide whether I wanted it or not - so someone else bought it. This unboxed one was a quid so I brought it home. It's just such a weird thing to make a diecast of
