I often wonder how these shops selling very overpriced diecast actually get by?

Someone walks in, sees what he/she likes, buys only one, goes home happy, blissfully unaware that savings could be had? 😄

There was a second-hand / curios / TAT type of shop around the corner from me for a few years (Second Chance) that I always intended to pay a visit to but never did for one reason or another.

I was gutted to see it had recently been emptied out. I was recently driving through Prescot which is around the corner from where I work and spotted that it had relocated to there!

It was raining at lunchtime so instead of doing my laps of the lake I thought I'd drive into Prescot to have my 'second chance'. It wasn't a big store and was crammed full of various things. Not much die-cast either unfortunately. I did leave him my number incase he received anything in the future.

I texted the Mrs before I went explaining where I was going to be told 'Don't buy anything Ant'.

Anyway...

I then popped into a charity shop near by which had some of those mixed bags of cars for £2 but I had to leave as the smell of piss was overwhelming.

I used to go passed a little shop in Southsea regularly that never ever seemed to be open trading, but looking in through the front window it was one of those old fashioned junk/tat shops that was absolutely rammed with all sorts of interesting old stuff. In the window was a big and clearly very old handmade wooden galleon model that’d been there absolutely years collecting dust.

It never seemed open and never anyone inside either, but I always wondered how on earth that place was paying the rent!? How could it be there like that but never actually trade!? Given how it looked it certainly wasn’t someone who was doing a roaring trade online either!

Probably owned the shop outright, it’s been mostly redeveloped round there. A bit like those grotty flats above the nightclub Harry Redknapp owned that mysteriously burnt down a few years ago.

Further savings to be had today in Poundstretcher...

IMG_20240827_1418512.jpg.f58f9195848e1f00558ad2e18a1cc038.jpg

Vaguely annoyed I bought so many of these at £1.49 last month, as most of them are still there now they're further reduced to 99p! Silver Morris Minors, white BMW Tourings, that sort of thing. No more blue Volvo 240s or green Mk1 Golfs left, mind - so I did ok there.

Ah well.

Also, another new Hot Wheels Silverline collection to be found on a lower peg - Hot Wagons:

IMG_20240827_1418572.jpg.c0787d2c6e4866d566d36642d72649bc.jpg

I'm guessing these are also out at £6 a pop, same as the Porsche collection on the same peg (none of which seem to have shifted). Some were hanging on the cheaper Jurassic World peg alongside, which will no doubt lead to all manner of fisticuffs at the till when they don't scan at £2.99.

Five in the collection - Chevy Nova on Fuchs-style rims:

IMG_20240827_1420102.jpg.632683c69d3dc57f223a39e47d30994e.jpg

Modernish Audi Avant RS6 and custom '66 Pontiac GTO:

IMG_20240827_1420042.jpg.aaccad92edff3824772e5846a264ddce.jpg

Volvo 850 and Datsun Bluebird:

IMG_20240827_1419542.jpg.37a502a05f7e24f9d995c629bfe8120c.jpg

I daresay there's also a chase car in this collection too, but if so it wasn't here.

Nice enough, for sure, but not quite 'worth forking over £30 for all five' nice.

I mean, it's good to see unusual stuff on the pegs at a discount retailer, but I'm just a bit baffled as to why Poundstretcher are bringing these items in.

B&M stock HW Silverlines at a slightly more reasonable £2.99 to £3.49, depending on release - so either Poundland's buyers have cut a bum deal or they're trying for a cash-in with 'kidult' customers in mind.

They may have picked the wrong town... it's all just old folks round here.

Good choices @Lord Sterling those were what caught my eye as well as the ADAC transporter (have you got it yet?)

Not yet, I will hopefully be going tomorrow, although it will be very hot tomorrow and the Jag's aircon is shot.

However, today was fairly fruitful and expensive. I took  a trip to Cora, this is the best place to find diecasts:

Erm, no France, an Audi clearly isn't French.

There are even bikes and quads:

This was my haul:

20240827_131552.jpg.8f55b59cefb382e52ee298d3b564e45f.jpg

• Moving parts Range Rover (seemingly the last MP Range Rover there)

• Matchbox Jag x 2

• Matchbox Mazda Autozam

• Matchbox Morris Minor

• Matchbox Lincoln Continental

• Solido 1/18 Aston DB5

I've visited this place for years (on the lookout for model cars mainly, I've known this supermarket for years) but I think I only ever bought the 1/18 Renault Twingo once from there. I'd always promised myself the Aston and now I've got it. The next 2 on my list are these:

20240827_122712.jpg.5670311d156289788b204a4485bbd003.jpg

Next, I moved onto a small toystore I know of in Porte de Halle;

20240826_152022.jpg.21b2d600038a41ac8df1dfdff3ae4fd5.jpg

Not much of interest but did grab these;

20240827_131630.jpg.5b13928bfb9dd4d05f1ccf6b71afbc39.jpg

I've said it before, here in continental Europe, we seem to get a great selection of model diecasts, whereas in England, I feel like we get the cheap shitty end of the stick, the good stuff we do have is hard to find. There have been times I've slobbered over a rare Matchbox/Hotwheels model that is difficult to find in the UK only to find it easily and in abundance here in Belgium.

Next I moved onto Woluwe Shopping Centre:

20240827_135845.jpg.7855a75ebb7b7f73092c4d2f2a7c706f.jpg

20240827_135850.jpg.9a33f7cf2bfc932c143fa521a1ed03c9.jpg

In all honesty, Siku haven't interested me for a long time, since their late 90s stuff like the W210 E-class Merc, when their stuff was still fairly matchboxed sized. Now their stuff, whilst nice, I feel is clumsily put together, too large or too small (an Audi Q5 is bigger in size than their Mercedes Sprinter van!) and generally doesn't have the looks appeal of Matchbox and HotWheels.

I think, to be honest, apart from the ADAC truck and the other cars I'm grabbing for some shiters here, thats it for my model car collecting for now. Time to spend money on things like clothes and a new windscreen wiper for the Jag.

Your absolutely bang on @Lord Sterling

Theres loads more diecast stuff on the continent than here and it’s cheaper too. What we get here always seems to me to be the run-off and dregs at an inflated price. Rip off Britain!

Nice haul by the way👍

Cor green Morris Minor and black Lincoln Continental!

Any other moving parts stuff, VW bus or Anglia?

Afraid not. Just a couple of Jaguar I-Paces and something else modern and forgettable.

Project ‘bloody minded twat’ aka: the Dodge 50 is progressing well.

Colour is on, bumper & grill done in black. Some of the details are being painted too. Tomorrow I’ll make a pair of rectangular indicators for the front and I’ve found some jewel headlights with flat backs, so I’ll glue a couple of thos on as headlights.
BMC LD van is at a similar stage now too.

That Dodge has been a right sod to make! Nowhere near as easy as I thought to start.

Supposedly they did one in this colour! I’ve never had one but they did release one - looks a bit more sixties I think?

There was one of these funny looking police car things in the £1 tat box at Sunday's toy fair...

I didn't pick it up as I didn't want to be saddled with it if @eddyramrod didn't want it!

No, I’ve certainly never seen one in that colour. I thought they were all blue, of one shade or another. Definitely looks more period in your colour.

Next project is a fixed bonnet MB54 Mk1 Capri, it’s a hybrid of a Hot Rocker and a Super GT Capri.

My Mum probably bought them from there, as we seemed to pay a visit on every shopping trip to Stockport until my sister grew up.

Not that it really matters, your model your choice.

No problem but cannot say when I will next pop in unless I text him and ask him to put to one side until Saturday.

He was asking a tenner on it but I can see if he'll come down a little?
