Couple more of my conversions/repaints/frankenstein creations…

Ex partwork Jeep Gladiator.
Repaint into Ford jasmine yellow. You could get these new in a similar shade. Just a couple of details to paint in on this one.

Ex rally support vehicles collection Bedford CF lwb.
This comes in the Vauxhall silver livery with extra spotlights and big roof rack full of spare tyres etc. I wanted a standard van though so altered it slightly!

And my AEC Mammoth Major mk1 8x4  is coming together slowly.
I got some better style wheels from a couple of donor models which improve the looks no end over those blue types.

What did you do with the Opel support vans roof rack and spare wheels etc? I have the Rothman liveried version and trying to source more accessories for it.

It’s just laying around on my workbench at the moment.
There’s only a bunch of wheels on this one. Your welcome to it if you want it though…

I’ve also got several of the various Transit models, most of which have roof racks with bits on.

I really wish someone would release a MK3 or MK4 Escort 🙏

Vanguards have done the Mk3. There are various police versions of the XR3, and being police cars they sell for a bit less than standard road versions, ideal for conversion.

Not sure in what scale, but there are  quite a few Escorts  out there in 1/43 really,

Mk4 wise, Vanguards have XR3i and RS Turbo versions,

IMG_20210220_225823.jpg.3a1ff14ab0b5b0cbf15ca2454abd75d7.jpg

The white XR3i is my fave, mainly because of the steelies & trims combo, There's also a Radiant red '90 spec one available.

IMG_20240208_142845.jpg.52183741c4bff7658d1d9e4f761b7814.jpg

There are a few Mercury grey RSTs still out there, without quite as much OSF tax as the other versions,

IMG_20240208_142535.jpg.dc13c7f87da89c5ee45a8107f91b2748.jpg

If a lower spec Mk4 is required, Jumajo on ebay still have some of these IXO-sourced partwork 5 doors in stock. Not the most accurate or detailed but for about £7 you cant fall off. A slightly better made IXO branded version, in Lacquer red  is also available out there, but its about £30 for that version.

Those 1:43 partwork/IXO Escorts aren’t half bad tbh. I’ve got quite a few of them!

Here’s a mk4 I resprayed not long back, started off the same as the white one above.

IMG_5670.jpeg.e168c45a22d8bb6c006edc960a8cf859.jpeg

Another partwork/IXO one is a mk3. These come in blue like mine or plain white, usually in little blister packs.

IMG_3081.jpeg.0484aef8f7e91e7f7fdd3f0c6dc8d5bb.jpeg

There’s also a white South American spec XR3 in the Argentinian partwork. It’s a 3 door mk4 but labelled up as from 1993 or something, because they made them a bit longer than us in Europe. I can’t find a pic of one though.

My dad had a 1.3 in the same colour as that. Think that would have been a 5 door as well - needed welding up at something like 5 years old!

Maritime blue. I nearly bought a mk4 in that colour years back.
I quite like the mk3 and 4, much better than the mk5 that came after.

My uncle had a D reg estate for years, just a plain red base model. That was a rust bucket, but he could weld so he just kept it going for ages. The mileage on it was insanely high though, he went everywhere in it. Rust eventually claimed it though and it went for scrap. I’ve still got the number plate off it somewhere.

Made some charity shop purchases, starting with a fairly inexpensive but unusual Matchbox 5

PXL_20240921_152320188.jpg.90add67904b7ba4937351a7056cb6087.jpgPXL_20240921_152324398.jpg.7829eb9987ee2eb690983db1c75ed3fe.jpg

Then I spotted the ones tucked away in the glass cabinet. They were not especially cheap but I cheekily mentioned the old (£5.50) price under the Dinky Dino...

This was also not exactly pocket money, but I've never found one with the very easily lost camera platform etc still in place

There was one more, and that was seriously, eye-wateringly expensive - but was purchased by the Mrs to be put away until the 25th of December...

@bunglebus that Commer TV van is fantastic!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one complete like that. The paint on it looks great too considering how old it is.

I've just seen that the chat about Mk3 Escorts was Hot Wheels size...

Oh well!

I was intending to model one as the XR3i Mk3 I owned and posibly the other as the Mk4

I took the repro French Dinky toys I bought a couple of weeks ago out of their shrink wrap today. Beautiful shiny paint, but poor asembly as the Galaxie had a rear light bezel rattling around loose and the Opel had a door hanging off!

IMG_0200.JPG.19ed2cdc6e995f8d2e8d5619cf557851.JPG

Luckily both easily fixed as the Rekord was just not clipped together properly and a dab of glue fixed the light.

Bargain at a local model railway exhibition - £2 each! Quite smart once  I’d washed all the old boy dust off them (I’m telling myself it was dust!)

I have not bought a diecast for years but that DS may weaken my resistance.

It's nice but rather a lot to pay for one car that's not available as a single. At least Hot Wheels multipacks contain several if not all unique designs

I mentioned these Corgi Landrovers some time ago. Despite the rong roof I think that version with those wheels and the working suspension is one of my favourite ever models of the Series 2.

A trip to a small antiques fair yielded a couple more for the pre-glazing Dinky collection.

Not masses of stuff there but there was a fella selling model railway stuff who had a load of 1:76 Oxford Diecasts for sale at £4 each. I was blown away by the level of detail on such small models.

Somebody was attending in style as well...

I found the 240Z and Toyota GT from that Vintage Racing Club series in France. Have any made it for sale here?

And shame I didn't know about your desire for the Speed Graphics Civic and Chevy. I found one of the former, possible there were others, and they may have had the latter as well at The Entertainer in Newbury which I managed to visit yesterday.

Quick stop at St Neots on the way down there:

Second Firebird purchased for "maybe someday" repaint into Rockford Files colour scheme, unless you want it @Datsuncog? Sushi Tuner for Miss SL, so she doesn't feel left out as I often find things for her BF.

During the course of my travels I visited several Sainsbury's, but saw nothing of note in any of them. Smyths in Reading had a very poor selection too, no Premiums or transporter/trailer packs.

Luckily a very hurried stop in Newbury town centre allowed me to visit a well-stocked branch of The Entertainer:

As alluded to whilst in Brussels,  I mentioned that I bought the green Range Rover (on the right) from Pêle-Mêle. I wasnt going to buy it at first but I noticed some differences on this one compared to the one I already had. The one I already have was very plain, more like a re-issued. I vaguely remember the box being blue.

This new one I bought is plated as TXC 922J which I understand is John Steeds' 'steed' in the New Avengers;

i013957.jpg.8fc13d9ac7b7219e4dd4a6731407046b.jpg

Except his is a 3 door RR whereas mine is a full 5 door.

20240922_012105.jpg.7e0b466b2c18af4810f0f78c3bf4af59.jpg

The other one is self-plated DAE 233J, so right for the year (I guess). I've taken a little liberty with the marker pens to give them more authentic details. They aren't the same as can be plainly seen but it doesn't bother me too much, I don't have the painting skills and patience of @danthecapriman or @sierraman (hmmm, both Ford derived usernames, is there a theme here?)

Anyway, I thought I'd make some comparisons;

20240922_012130.jpg.2d10eac3b53beebc838286dc6f83a03d.jpg

Bumper on TXC is painted correctly silver, DAE isn't. Also, TXC already has a plate whereas DAE was (needs cutting down slightly) DAE had a plain back.

The rear window surround on DAE is gloss black where its body-Green on TXC.

20240922_012232.jpg.50363fcd174d9250472fc68bcfc29cc0.jpg

You might notice that the black surrounds for the "floating roof" is gloss black on DAE and matted on TXC.

20240922_012200.jpg.68e80e940b8c81fcbbc765f565e1de34.jpg

Similarly, the wheels on DAE are glossy whereas they are normal wheel dull silver on TXC. The interior is notable to being brown rather than a dull black.

20240922_012146.jpg.58edeed7e43d74694463a87aeb046922.jpg

Of course the paintwork is noticeably different too. With still have a deep shine but TXC has a slightly darker hue to it, this might be age?

Other small things to note;

Wipers on TXC are already painted silver whereas they are black on DAE. TXC also has a small black oblong indicating a rear-view mirror whereas it's clear on DAE.

Both vehicles' door handles where black but I dabbed a small blob of silver to give it that authenticity.

You might have noticed the blue Majorette RR in the background.

I bought one on the strength of seeing one on here. Unfortunately it really isn't all that.

20240922_012254.jpg.69a27b8e12024d7758f7682473ea03ca.jpg

20240922_012308.jpg.92b91ac0a775ad0c5607ef66939c872d.jpg

20240922_012350.jpg.429aafe0d97ca91d4c1fbbacb82694b9.jpg

I dunno, it looks OK in some angles and a bit crude in others, the ba k is definitely an afterthought and the coloured glass, for a 1/36 really doesn't  do it justice as it carries on into the headlights and front foglights, I have taken some creative detail editing but it doesn't make a huge difference. I suppose I just don't like the overall blue colour at all, but it was cheap and about the only one I could find at sensible money that didn't have broken glass/plastic.

Merc was undergoing rear axle repair-age.

I have that one spare, postage isn't great for just one thing however.

They seem to be cropping up in various Tesco stores, perhaps give it another week or two?
