Started off with a light dusting the other day.

Came across snow on Thursday in Scotland, from the central belt upwards. The A86 from Spean Bridge to Newtonmore was a bit naughty, just near the Dalwhinnie turn, a guy in a Sprinter had come off the road and landed on the drivers side in a ditch. Emergency services were on their way, and the guy was okay, just couldnt get out of the cab.

This was Old Faithful (750,000 kms and counting) yesterday morning after an overnight stop just outside Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

A97 from Huntly to Aboyne was a bit squeaky bottom time!

Just under 10 hours driving time to get back to base. Mind, by the looks of it, I'm glad I'm not up there today...

The snow in Bonnybridge is treacherous. It just looked fluffy at my house but down the town it has turned to packed ice. I ventured out as I didn't want to dissapoint my son and not get him to his basketball training. There's a steep bend coming down from the canal bridge and the traffic had all stopped half way up.  Even with me gingerly going at less than 5mph the car just went out of control. Constance braking, steering , ABS, nothing made any difference. One of those situations where you just have to brace. I missed a BMW, a flatbed lorry, the kerb and a bus before coming to a halt at the bottom of the hill after 100m. Thankfully nobody was hurt and nothing was damaged.

Glad I chose the more shit car of my fleet, the red Audi, to venture out. I'd have been gutted to prang the nice grey one and going out in the E46 would just have been silly.

Car now abandoned and we all safely walked back, via Greggs of course.

Still, at least it wasn't a Clio 182 with "rapid" brand summer tyres.  That would have been quite irresponsible.

There's a bit more information about it here. It's your dream Hymer, but the aftermarket turbo isn't TB. I'm not sure who fitted it, but there's no intercooler.

Back here in London we have - no snow. There was a flurry last week❄️ on Regents Street featured on the BBC but nothing now . In fact - it's warmed up - two guys on Beckenham High Street seen in shorts...🏖

But we are 'ard  as nails ere in Sarrf Londin' - or something like that 🤣

I spent my day yesterday piloting a LWB one of these, starting in snowy Holmfirth at 7 in the morning. I don't know about "squeaky" bottom...

In about 2012, I worked in Leamington Spa and it started snowing quite heavily. The boss said everyone should start making their way home (my home was 130 miles away), so I set off in my mk1 MR2. I finally made it out of Leamington in two or three hours, and then onto the M40 which was thick and very slow moving. The snow tore my backbox off, so I had to pull into the hard shoulder (which was a couple of feet deep) and fix the exhaust back on with a ratchet strap. I had just replaced my front track rod ends and was going to get the wheels aligned at some point, but they were pointing in different directions. When one wheel went over a bit of road without ice/snow, it would pull the car to the right or left, and both tyres had about 3mm of tread. I was certain I was going to spin out and crash at some point. I pulled into M6 toll services and put the spare wheel on (again in very deep snow). I got home safely somehow and it took about eight hours.

Most recent was working in Shoreditch, London in 2018 - I used to park up in Leamington, and get the two hour train from there as I couldn't stomach driving in London traffic - I used to have to leave at 4am in the morning on a Monday, and came home on a Friday. The job was alright and the people I worked with were alright, but I had such a bad overall experience over four or five months - a complete opposite of pleasant 5 year work in Leamington (travelling every weekend). Anyway, it started snowing heavily and I started getting flashbacks to 2012.

Getting home, some of my trains were cancelled, it was just one of those typical 'country grinds to a halt' things.

I eventually got to my BMW at about 10 o'clock.

Could not get traction at all - I remember pulling out of a petrol station and the wheels were spinning in idle. You could have just got out of the car and it would have sat there spinning away in the snow. Driving through Kenilworth, which is just fields and out of the way, I couldn't get and grip going up hills, and had to reverse and take bigger run ups. It cleared by the time I got halfway between Birmingham and Wirral. I've worked remotely ever since. Sorry for the off-topic-ness.

I had a Volvo 360 as my first car when I was 18. The insurance went live at midnight during heavy snowfall and I decided (using my infinite wisdom) to go rag it up the forestry with my mate and see how well it would slide around corners because it had wikid sick RWD for drifting, yo.

It was in the ditch within two hours. I had to wake up a very friendly farmer at about 3AM for a tow out, he was surprisingly polite after the initial suspicion at two teenagers in the arse end of nowhere chapping doors in the middle of the night. I gave him a fiver for the trouble because it's all I had in my pockets at the time.

I did take some nicer photos of it in the snow though, the second one was how it looked after I was parked for about an hour with it coming down sideways:
