VOLVO-440-Turbo---1993-1996-.jpg

8)

I am SO with you on the Volvo 440. I had a 2.0GLT in red metallic as a company car back in the mid-nineties...it was the first car I had with a CD player so I thought I was the nuts! They got lumbered with a bit of an 'old giffer' image, but I thought they were very underrated. The dash was very 'cockpit' style. As I'm sure you probably know, they were built at the old DAF factory in Holland so build quality wasn't overly fantastic...but, yup, I'd have another!! :P

GLT had alloys, rear spoiler, half leather seats, tints. Nice...but haven't seen one in yonks.

^ Thats got me thinking - I've never actually ownded a car with a CD player!

Posted

I was never a massive fan of 440's, the interior was quite cheap and plasticly but by Christ was they quick!, I used to use a 440 2.0 GLT a bit and it went like shite of a shovel.

Posted

I'd love an old Mercedes 0303 coach. I think too many slow journeys round Spain on these has caused this.

or an old Setra, with a V8 please :D

Posted

I came so very close to buying a 440 Turbo in the mid 90's. For some reason I opted for a 216GTi instead :?

Mind you, that was alright

Posted

I nearly bought a 440 as my first car. The only reason I didnt was the insurance costs. Wish I had now!

This is probably my weirdest:

Oh you sod.

I remember having my first Deltic back in 1980.

Them and whistlers

I've always had a hankering for one of these:

That's the stuff right there - but probably something more like this for me (except 3dr)

Volvo360GLT_1.jpg

My mate had a '83 340 1.4 about 10 years ago and I loved driving it, was the total opposite of the '62 Mini I had at the time.

But seeing as folk have started talking trains I've got to throw this in too:

gallery57.jpg

In those colours too and as dirty and claggy and noisy as possible please !

Have a fantasy of fitting one of those motors into an old van and painting it in BR large logo blue  (would it even be possible??)

Posted

Had a brief drive in one of these this afternoon and remembered how much I'd like one

Mazda_MX_5.jpg

But seen as you trainpervs have been posting trains, heres what I'd really like to own

I'll have a "Western" please!

God, they give me the horn! They used to trundle past my primary school in Bath, in the 1970s, in blue and yellow livery. I think I got my first.... ahem...state of arousal just looking at them!!

And the names...Stalwart, Patriarch,Leviathan, Firebrand.

Phwooaar!!

Someone was definitely looking through Issigonis' briefcase for the file marked "ADO16"...

You mean Pininfarina, surely

ADO16 wasn't from Issy's pen.

I prefer steam and on the road. This was the ultimate; very advanced for 1933 and capable of 60mph

Sentinel S4 Waggon 8)

I drove one down my favourite local backroad (ask MM5 how quick I can go on that) and loved every second of it.

Lets not go there  ... (Although i will try my best to keep up with you in the Festerrrr)

Car Crush on the following:

Lada%20Riva%20Grp%20B.jpg

Pretty sure i mentioned it at Stondon, but i really do like Riva's.

Datsun 411

H vans

and last but not least i also like Citroen C15D vans ... What is that all about :( ??

(I seen Volvo 340 has been mentioned, i am sure my college has one and are trying to get rid of it - It may have a few parts missing (i don't know .... but should i get pictures and ask if it is for sale ??)

Spot the difference time between that CRX and one of my daft crushes:

I've driven a sentinel steam wagon - but seeing as we're into big things - me I want a concorde for my private jet!

And the Queen Mary as my private yacht

We're going big?! Great! Leyland Nationals for a start, although I've now got three to my name... going bigger, Class 37s, Class 101 DMUs and Tupolev Tu-154s...

Posted

Nothing to do with size here (other than having something fun to do with my class C licence) just a happy coincidence. I've had a long lingering want for one of these:

Goddess1PA_450x300.jpg

This chap's obviously enjoying his. Forget about single figures MPG, where I'd put it or what the hell I'd do with it - just look at the list of 'good points':

Tax and MOT exempt

Classic insurance (?)

Low mileage/previously well maintained

Available for about £2000 (a lot of metal to weigh in if it was an absolute shocker)

How much fun would a 4wd lorry be?!

Plenty of seats for friends/family (to chip in for fuel)

You can't lose! Fact!

Posted

^^^ I agree completely with you on that one, as soon as I have the money and space I'm going to buy one :D

Posted

Alfa 156. I've come close so many time to getting one (manual obv, none of that Sillyspeed nonsense) and everytime I've backed away, scared by stupid servicing and fault costs. I still love them though and will certainly get one one day. I'm just waiting for a stupidly cheap working one so if (when) it goes bang it won't owe me much.

We all have unexplained crushes on most of the 'shite' centre ground tat - Tagoras, Commer vans, Austin Ambassador (Y-reg), Regata Weekend Diesels - that's why we're here after all!

And yes, most of us fancy most Alfas. Isn't his perfect for a modern? (A spot of mine this Tuesday.)

Alfa.JPG

But I think DW was pushing the established shite boundaries rather: broadening our horizons, and asking us to open up to that on the fringes. (I quite fancy an early Matiz now  )

May I share a few skeletons from my closet?

+1 on the Tigra- a surprising number of us admitting to that one.

The Puma also, to a lesser extent for me.

puma.jpg

Or almost anything from the 90s with a big, round arse:

323.jpg

They have to be the right sort of colour, though.

Bravo.gif

Mk2 MR2... I Will have one soon. This colour please.

mr2.jpg

Ooh... 406 Coup. In pale blue or green. mmmmmm.

406_Coupe.jpg

+1 for the Demio

DemioMK1.gif

...and 850. Any 850. Remember when BTCC was fun? Or a S40 please. Thank you.

850.jpg

Rather than a CRV, I'd love an HRV. Perhaps in purple or 'Tigra Orange'. But they only came in 1.6 flavour. Shame. Maybe a 2.2 vtec would drop in?

HRV.jpg

Or a Niva!

2131lada.jpg

RX4

Yes. On cyclones:

306_Roland_Garros.JPG

Yes. On rails. (Leyland Railbus)

Leyland.jpg

I do quite fancy car based pick-ups, eg

jumbuck.jpg

or

MiniMarcos.JPG

or

SubBaja.jpg

...even more embarrassingly, those of the home-brew variety. Just so long as they aren't too hideous. These work for me:

Herald.jpg

and

porsche_pickup_full.jpg

and

W124b.gif

and

Carlton.jpg

Also, unlikely open-air motors, eg

xantiacc.jpg

Vivio rxr targa-top

vivio%20rxr%20t-top.jpg

I'd probably kill for one of them ^ given the chance.

Samba.jpg

OK, that is predictably shite, as is this perhaps. But look at it. OMG. Like a Prarie, but more.

CivicShuttle.jpg

Maybe the most embarrassing for me would be...

X90.gif

*digit hovers over Backspace button* Did I really need to share that? Sorry.

Hey ho. Better out than in.

I'll fetch my coat.

Posted

That's more like it!

Nothing daft about fancying a 406 coupe mind, they are 'well buff'.

Another one that's a bit embarrassing for me is the MK1 Laguna.... not sure why, but I reckon it's the last genuinely handsome car Renault made.

They're all cheap - just don't buy a neglected ex-rep hack

I've run two of these for the past three years as dailies. Relibility pretty much the same as anything French or Opel or Ford in my street. If they were that bad I wouldn't rely on it to get me 40 miles to work. I run mine on a Mondeo budgets using a no-nonsense nearby specialist. And a stock of oil.

Okaaaaaayyyy...

Also got a yearning for one of these. Of course set off with yellow bulbs for extra Pernod effect

But at a push might have to settle for this instead

We're going big?! Great!

In that case, my daft crush on a 'biggie' is this.

dsc10584.jpg

A Carmichael foam tender.

I live near Sellafield and they have one. Full airport spec.

It's a surreal sight to see this monster being taken out for a run on the main roads round here, and every time I see it I want it. Or, at the very least, a go at driving it.

The fact that it looks like something from Thunderbirds only adds to the deep WANT.

Posted

Watching Die Hard 4.0 on TV at the moment is really giving me a desire for a Ford Crown Victoria.

Doesn't it though! I've done those roads in a 3-axle ERF, so the same trip in this thing must be the dictionary definition of exciting!

As a copcar nut, the Crown Vic is so high on my list as to be a foregone conclusion :D but at least I can say I've had a black-and-white; ok, a rotten 80s Plymouth but still good enough.

used to pass me quite regularly on the A617 of an evening. Sorry, but I laughed hard - the workmanship doesn't look bad, but the colour combo does it no favours!
