Dream Driveway

This should be interesting...

Let's daydream, as I'm sure we all do. You have an unlimited amount of money to spend on five cars to populate your dream driveway. They can be as shite or as gorgeous as you like, but they have specific jobs to do.

1: Something for normal life, day-to-day general-purpose running-around.

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

5: A total indulgence. A car that gives you the same feelings chocolate does. :D

I'll wait for a few replies before I start posting-up my selections. I could, as I'm sure many of us could, come up with four or five lists without repeating myself.

Posted

1, 1970 Land Rover 109 Diesel ...........Got that.

2, 1967 Humber Imperial. Thrupp & Maberley stretch.

3, AC Greyhound

4, Model 'T' Ford

5, 1963 Lincoln in Moss Green metallic.

Posted

1 - Hillman Hunter 1725cc GL Estate (preferably white)

2 - Saab 9-5 Diesel estate

3 - Gordon Keeble

4 - 1958 Plymouth Fury (in red)

Great thread idea! But not easy. I'll have a go...

1: Something for normal life, day-to-day general-purpose running-around.

2CV. Got that.

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

Running costs no object? Citroen DS with an SM engine.

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

Renault Alpine - as it's a dream, let's go crazy and make it a Turbo!

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

Gladys the one-off David Bache-styled Rover P6 Coupe.

Posted Image

5: A total indulgence. A car that gives you the same feelings chocolate does.

Has to be a Facel Vega. Quirky, French, huge V8 power. Win!

1. Probably a Land Rover 110, it can fit everyone in and interesting enough. Tracking down the only one in the world without chequerplate could be tricky

Posted Image

2. Nissan Stagea, the estate version of the Nissan Skyline. Bonkers performance, adequate room and hopefully quiet. My mate's got an Audi S6 estate with the V8 and that seems to do pretty well, but modernish Audis don't do a lot for me.

Posted Image

3. Melkus RS1000 I think. Mid mounted 3 cylinder Wartburg engine, fibreglass body and gullwing doors.

Posted Image

4. Peerless GT. Wish I didn't have to sell mine but I really think they look the business whilst being different enough from the crowd

Posted Image

5. Bentley 8 litre. None of this faffing about with superchargers; WO Bentley knew what he was doing with a bigger engine and this 6 cylinder monster was the ultimate. There are plenty of people who use vintage Bentleys for trials as well as cross country journeys so it would probably be pretty usable as well as bonkers for zipping down the M1 at 90mph.

Posted

1. MG Maestro Turbo

2. Rover SD1 V8 Vitesse

3. Mk1 Mini Cooper S

4. Citroën SM

5. Porsche 917

1) Crappy estate - Mondeo, Veccy, Primera or whatever. To leave wherever I feel like and to make the others feel special.

2) BMW M3 E36 - pref. an Evo (hopefully my next real life car if things go to plan)

3) Corvette Mk4 ZL1

4) Talbot Lago Grand Sport - with a Saoutchik body

5) Oldsmobile 4-4-2 of the manual variety with the Hurst shifter; so a Hurst/Olds then. I know it would handle like a bus but that doesn't matter.

I may not be taking this challenge with the seriousness it deserves.

Five is too difficult... so a Bugatti type 43 replica with a 35B spec engine will do for me as an allround vehicle. In a sufficiently warm and dry country.

As long as the driveway was actually a 5-car garage, to help prevent the rampant rot:

Here is a couple of pics of my driveway a few months ago. Was pretty happy with it. The Imp was in the garage too. If it had been out i could have had 60's 70's 80's and 90's in order.

Mine are predictable.

For everyday use. Jag XJR black.

Posted Image

For silly weekends and messing about I'd have a 1978 Mk2 RS2000 in Signal Orange with black Scheele seats, black headlining, bronze tints, opening 1/4 lights, LH remote door mirror, five speed Sierra GLSi box, Bilsteins, vented discs, decent stereo, RS1800 front anti-roll bar with double width kit, 145lb front springs (-1") and CD6 single leaf rears, possibly with an NA Cosworth lump on 45s. Oh, and a decent stereo. JR stainless exhaust with Janspeed manifold.

For trans-European missions I'd have an RS6 in this blue colour.

The urge for one of these won't go away;

For shite gatherings, this is an itch I must scratch one day soon.

1: Something for normal life, day-to-day general-purpose running-around.

Opel Astra 200TS, just because of rarity, turbo power, practicality. It was a low-volume South African variant that was used by Government officials, also came in five door hatchback and estate form.

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

Delica or Estima. My da had an Estima and the possibilities of the thing! MPG was shite though.

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

Mitsubishi Starion, I've had one and felt like I was let down by it's failings, but want another one, or a Nissan 300ZX.

Posted Image

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

Alfa Romeo GTA, just look at it, it's mental:

Favourite from when I first played Outrun in the arcade.

1: Mondeo estate (no one would look twice, not worried if it gets dented)

2: BMW E39 M5

3: Lotus Exige

4: Ford Falcon XC Cobra

5: Ferrari F40. In white

Posted

1) lotus Carlton, shouldn't need to say anymore. 2) Aston DB7. 3) mint nova with a 2.0 130 engine. Ideally on White Compomotives with a slight drop and a cage. 4) completely standard Suzuki GT750. 5) Austin 3-litre.

Come on play the game. This is Autoshite after all not Pistonbroke. :) Away with the Astons, Ferraris and Maseratis, the Autoshiter's drive should have only the truly mediocre parked upon it.

My choice:

1: Something for normal life, day-to-day general-purpose running-around.

Talbot Horizon Diesel.

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

Bedford CA Utilabrake (with slatted seats, 1500 cc of mighty power and 3-speed column change)

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

One of those 1950s specials with a fibreglass body perched on top of a Ford Pop chassis and the driver sticking out like the conning tower on a submarine

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

Sherpa Roadster

5: A total indulgence. A car that gives you the same feelings chocolate does.

Porsche 924, but then chocolate makes me feel sick :(

Mk3 Cavalier 2.0SRi, in haze blue. Got one - anyone fancy welding it for me?!

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

Mk2 Granada 2.8 Ghia X estate, in storm grey, with a manual gearbox. Phwoar.

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

Never driven one, but I'm going to say a Peugeot 309 1.9GTi Goodwood.

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

Opel Monza 3.0GSE.

5: A total indulgence. A car that gives you the same feelings chocolate does.

FSO Polonez 1500SLE. Not fussed on colour, as long as it's got four headlights, rear 3/4 windows and the big lego brick tail lights. Like this one... anyone fancy a trip to Poland?! http://allegro.pl/polonez-fso-1500-i1194443914.html

1: Something for normal life, day-to-day general-purpose running-around.

Mk1 Fiesta with 2.0 Zetec. Would be built around a Ghia, and look standard from outside, with the exception of some fairly unobtrusive 13" alloys, and a slight lowering job. Must have opening quarterlights

2: Something to carry four of you over long distances, with a fortnight's luggage.

M5 Touring. Twattish, yes, but supremely practical, and a bit quick.

3: A sports car for when you feel like taking on that Alpine road.

A well sorted Alfa Spider. Polybushed, bodily restored and with a few engine mods for a bit more pace.

4: A "Classic" that you can take to the shows and maybe even win a trophy with.

V12 E-type 2+2, particularly the unloved series 3. I actually like the chrome grille on them.

5: A total indulgence. A car that gives you the same feelings chocolate does.

Datsun 260Z. Just because.

Alternatively, with the amount of money I currently have, all but No 2 would have to be (badly) covered by my Celica, with No2 being dealt with by Mrs S' 156. Damn you, poverty.
