What would you buy instead?

One of these has turned up in my street - Aston Martin SUV.

I don’t really understand why you’d want an Aston Martin in SUV format, but each to their own.

What surprised me is that in the spec it’s in its about £215k to buy. I can’t even afford the wheel upgrade package by itself, let alone attached to the car.

So if you had £215k to spend on a car what would you get? I can think of many, which would still leave me enough to pay off the mortgage as well!

If I could pick one it probably be a late 70’s Porsche 911, which still leaves at least £100k…..

AC Cobra lookalike and then spend the rest on a house in France with a decent sized garage/workshop.

Spending that entire amount on one car simply does not compute at all.

I'll keep this, which is the same sort of thing, and spend the other £203,000 on holidays.

Below, and 50 grands worth of premium bonds for my kids and the rest to guide dogs for the blind.

If I had to buy a car then a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa and a new R4electric.

If not forced to spend the dosh on a car then I would get a pukka workshop built. Dry, warm, maybe a lift.

Any change would go towards a Triumph 2500 Estate for my gifferdom

Not really shite I'm afraid. £200k.

I was rather hoping one would be a bit cheaper, so that I could afford a 90s Lincoln Towncar, Chevy Suburban and Crown Vic too, so I might just have to settle for one of those.

sold at auction for £112k. that would be in the garage.

as above, Ford crown vic for a daily (£12k max)

but I’m keeping my shitty old landrovers just so I can remember EXACTLY where I belong on the food chain.

I would be tempted to keep the chod I have and reduce my mortgage by £215k but is that too sensible? If I had to spend the money on cars (oh what a hard ship!) the temptation to just add more vaguely affordable tatt to the collection would be overwhelming...

I am thinking

A solid Lotus Eclat or Excell

Opel Monza GSE

Triumph 2500

A suitably modified Forward control Land Rover 101 or 109 2b

Jaguar XJS V12

Something small light and kit cary like a Rochdale Olympic

Pretty sure I would still have some change left!

Early (cable throttle) manual T5 estate - 850 or x70 matters not - pay somebody who knows what they're doing to renovate it to good as new, a few choice mods, then bank the rest for front tyres and petrol. And speeding fines. And then employing someone to drive me around when my license gets torched. And their speeding fines, and then employing someone to drive us both around when... You get the idea. Probably wouldn't last long, but it would be fun, and I'd still have an immaculate T5 at the end of it. Hopefully.

Nice big turbo escort cossie for me with a few choice mods, a good £60k gone and a G wagen for the Mrs about the same.

Really like a Plymouth scamp, and then a massive workshop and yard.

Oddly enough i was just looking at fiat 130 coupes . I’d definitely get one funds and space permitting. Especially with a fozzy bear interior,

I should still have enough left over for an immaculate Cortina Ghia estate to use for best.

What’s the red one - I like it a lot!

Imagine how much spare cash in the bank you'd need (from a psychological point of view) before you'd spend £200k Plus on something that is no different functionally than something costing 5 times less apart from the badge.

That's basically a 200k badge.

I'd be happy to spend 5 times less as that's more than the four cars out front totalled up ;-)

I guess if it is truly Fantasy Island stuff - to blow the whole lot on a single car?
Previously I wanted the old Triumph 2500 and a good workshop.
Instead, something like this, small change used to buy a wee, boxy shopping trolley to absorb the road salt and supermarket car park frolics.

One of those re-engineered S3 XJ6 that have had the improvements done. And a W124 ideally diesel and slow. The rest I’d probably just fritter away on holidays and tools I’ve no idea how to use.

Well a lotus SUV rocked up with it now, presumably they’re having some sort of car meet for owners of prestige car brands that have lost their way.

The lotus looks very similar, but is electric and quicker than the Bentley. It’s also ‘only’ £160k (although the entry level version is £70k) and to be honest looks like a better buy!

What I hadn’t appreciated is that Rolls Royce have got in on the action with the £490k SUV:

like @New POD said, how much cash would you need in your pocket to use this much for a car?!

Ideally this...

...Which I realise isn't a car, but would house the cars I have within my own property, and would give me more room for my models.  This one is actually over budget, but they never expect to get what they ask, do they?

Shit that’s cheap. Was it just me though that fast forwarded through the pictures of the kitchen and bedroom to get a look at the garden and the garage?
