Now with the Mondeo gone, I’ve managed to purchase another little project, this one should be a little easier then the Mondeo. I’ll be meeting my courier in Guildford at about 10am. Updates to follow

I'm so happy it's made it's way back to you, I know you will enjoying this for a long time ahead now! Great to catch up with you today and you certainly seemed to enjoy a few of the "toys" parked up in my unit 😄 Looking forward to see it back on the road again soon 😁

Had a bit of time to work on it today, managed to get it to idle and run without any choke. Still a bit smokey but I reckon it should clear itself out with a good run. Just some MOT prep to do.

Yes, but iirc GL/XL is a tad higher spec than GR/XR.

I am a GR peasant...

That it?  No velour seats, added radio, passenger door mirror?  Disappointing...

I thought GR was higher spec? I’m not too clued up on these if I’m honest. @Weird Car used to own a GR, not sure what options it had though.

Eh, really? I've got a clock, two mirrors, multiple ashtrays. Not exactly a bourgeoisie level of luxury...

My GL has a single ashtray, radio cassette. Passenger sun visor mirror, clock (no tachometer). I’m sure it’s got other options, if I’m honest I’m not sure what the option list was. I’ve got the brochure in my garage I’m sure that’ll have an option list in it

From my days working at a Peugeot dealer in the late 80's GR was the top trim spec.

GR was indeed higher spec than GL

It got such options as a 1.4 ltr engine

Removable and tilting sunroof

2 door mirrors

Dash clock

Door protecting rubber trims

Rear ashtrays

Full length centre console

Glovebox lid with lock

Internal mirror adjusters

Sweep option on the wipers

And a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard

At least this is what mine had which was a top spec phase 1 GR

XE would surely be Autoshite spec?

Did they even do the 5 door in GE trim with the 1.0 engine?

The XE is too sporty with it being a 3 door!
I think they did but only in France. I could be wrong though

Sid and Doris who used to live over the road from my parents both bought themselves a 205 shortly after they came out (I think one red and the other blue) - probably retirement presents to each other. I am almost certain that these were the GE model and according to the Jersey vehicle register extract that is released quarterly on the open data website, there is still one red 205 GE (954cc and registered April 1985) on the system.

My dad had two 205 XLD (not at the same time…) - as has already been said, X = 3 doors, G = 5

back in 1985, GT was an impossible dream, GR was posh velour etc, GL was tolerable. I did once drive a GE - bereft of the luxuries to which I was accustomed. You know, things like a second door mirror, a rear wiper etc.
