This is my favourite form of transport these days a near 30 year old Toyota.

A 3 litre turbo diesel auto that just does everything asked of it without complaining. It's one of those vehicles that has a happy demeanor.

Best of all the indicator stalk is on the right for lazy elbow on the door cruising.

Like isn't strong enough for the feelings I have towards my 405:

Even the air con has started working again.

I love it, despite the fact its practically the least desirable spec for one of these (1.8 engine with manual box, no leather, no air con) but the simplicity, (and it being an actual colour) is a bonus for me. 27 years old this year, but just gets on with being 'an car' as well as anything modern.

Not quite as immaculate as the pics might suggest, but still bloody good for one of these, that gets used every day in all weathers.

I'm still a bit unsure about this, but it does everything I need. Pretty quick, roomy, decent on fuel, looks respectable. Will likely stay with me unless something exceptionally attractive comes up

I like those.  Nice to drive and go like the clappers when you need them to.  They do like a drink though...

I’ve consolidated down to 3; each for a different purpose.

Daily. I love Italian cars so this fits the truck needs, but is quick, comfortable and a little unusual amongst the sea of SUVs on the road. So good it’s my second Stelvio.

Fun. One of 103 in the world, a 2-seat Supersports. 758bhp/999nm. Eats miles in comfort, luxury and stupidly low mpg.

Wind in my (diminishing) hair. Bought a year ago on here and I absolutely love it. Fresh MOT, just taxed and will be used at any opportunity over the next few months. Lots of fettling & improvements done already with a few more to come soon.

It's crap and probably the worst car I own by all measures - impractical, noisy, a bit tatty, uncomfortable for long journeys, you're going to get wet if it rains (even with the roof up), slow, pretty crap handling, everything rattles + shakes and an engine that has a reputation of nuking itself.

PXL_20230513_200458282.jpg.18f0560ef7eace1d32e1ac35871a08da.jpg

PXL_20230513_200557633.NIGHT.jpg.a62e13dda87f8fb930822b278fb4d182.jpg

But it's still, by far, the one car I enjoy driving the most (providing it's sunny). Also garners the most positive attention by others when out and about in it.

Such a gorgeous car, you can forgive it a great deal. Plus the colour is just 'right'.

Back in the day we used to reckon a set of Konis was a very worthwhile handling mod, alongside the thicker GT6 front anti-roll bar. Just sayin 😉

If you were to look up  "Marmite car" This would be the definition.  2015 facelift 1.5 DCI Diesel Tekna - just clocked over 100.000 miles yesterday. I love it - Others hate it but I have been asked by friends and workmates about it more than any other car I have owned.

i like the berlingo- good lugger, comfortable, and it just sorta goes.

but i love my corolla. can't really explain why because they're supposed to be well boring, but i just get a sense of deep deep joy when i get in it and take it for a spin (even if it burns oil)

A car that some people spend quite a bit of their time smugly typing up how much they dislike. Well I like it. Mechanically still 100% capable but the Circle of Rust has begun and it's days as a year-round daily are over. Bought during The First Lockdown after my hand went through the sill of my Clio 172, the same thing befell this car a few months ago! Needed quite a bit of welding there and it's going back for more elsewhere on the car. It's already looking better though and it's going to look great once the arches are tidied up. I now have other cars to do the heavy lifting come winter time.

Rovers are getting fewer and fewer and to sell it would be it's death warrant, so this one I'll now never part with.

Big shout out for the Top of The Pops of my car buys. Bought from Northernmonkey for Mrs_Pin, last September, it's needed only 2 tyres and a wheelbearing, plus a couple of oil changes. Straight through the MOT yesterday. Frugal with a working roof, we all love this car.

The 330ci Of Considerable Expenditure.

20250411_162013.jpg.01249c14bd949241b3328d07df5e196e.jpg

Needed a lot of deferred items looking at, and, at various points,  between Northernmonkey and me, they were addressed. I now have quite a reliable turn-key summer daily. I've wanted a silver M_Sport E46 Ci since my pal had a Coupe version brand new in 2001 Y461 XES. When I give it a bootful the 6 pot soundtrack takes me back to the long drives we used to go on. Unusually this one is 99% mint condition underneath. I can't find a replacement for the memories this car evokes so it will stay a while yet.

I needed to recoup some savings after a new shower in my house was required, so I sold the forum Saab 9-5 HOT to another shiter and bought this bargain 9-3 Cab as I can't live with a Saab shaped hole in my existence.

Noobtune, manual and no rust in the arches meant it was something I was interested in.  New bumper in progress. Apart from some mild senility in the electrics, it's already another go-to daily car

It's rock solid, built from leftovers, roller painted ( so don't give a shit, in fact dings etc make it look more authentic old racer ) has a guestimated 170hp so enough power to have fun with.

Must say though I miss my 5.0 V8  ( in storage circa 10 years😭😭😭)desperately need it back on the road my baby since 1989😍😍😍IMG_20240721_210518.jpg.5377ffdca68913d408bce8a3eb56f7da.jpg

oooft, those refurb wheels and skirts make a huge difference!

My submission: It's painfully slow, deafening inside, back breaking over bumps, has fuel consumption to rival an F4 Phantom on full afterburner, and it lets water in like the Titanic and oil out like the Exxon Valdez. My friends all hate riding in it.
But it's been mine since 2008, transformed from shed to show queen, and I'll never ever sell it :)

Closest to being my daily...

IMG-20240619-WA00512.jpg.6d5259c2a812e3e033f8b8df49817d74.jpg

Quite new to the fleet, cheap to buy, lots of work gone in but an awesomely good car.

That statement pretty much covers the rest of them too I think!  My wife's daily...

IMG_20240612_214837_2613.jpg.9311ba38eb2a5fcf380bf23a4da6c868.jpg

Probably the best car, objectively, that we've ever owned.  There's very little to better it even today I think?

My eldest's (bought on here), racking up serious miles in his hands, been all over Scotland including the Western Isles...

IMG-20240705-WA0004.jpg.600173c4eef86598d7adde40ceff0a00.jpg

My youngest's now, although it's been a bastion of the fleet for a looooong time (I've changed the cambelt twice!)...

IMG_20210108_120917_120.jpg.a77fced7996a8b9b4336b1306ff68259.jpg

My wife's favourite, and a very nice car even at 220,000 miles...

IMG_20210606_102534_904.jpg.97b4761bf55df2da7b967ffae707c900.jpg

Currently awaiting some new brakes, but a good going thing.

The one that started it all for me really, my first old one, and a far better car than most would have you believe...

IMG_20240501_162500_4763.jpg.7611932e17b8c52064bc7f0259d752a2.jpg

My record was 12,000 miles one year, amazing wee thing with plenty of character, near faultless reliability and runs on pennies.  Joyful stuff, and Rosie's been mine for 16 years now.

And the latest acquisition, back on the road (very much a work in progress, but solid and in fine mechanical fettle), rolling into her 66th year...

IMG_20250530_173155_8042.jpg.27c2d5dbbadb6527b738dabf359cfc24.jpg

Instantly got under my skin (as I was warned she would!), an absolutely charming old car.  Impressive on the road too... not as slow as you'd think, and very comfy.  Zero road tax, MOT exempt, 27 mpg... even the parts are well priced.  Pretty cheap motoring!

Honourable mention to the Toyota Hiace camper, currently in hibernation but owned by us for 22 years.  I don't appear to have any pics on the phone, there's plenty of actual photographs in albums here though!  Totally reliable, and full of happy memories for us.

We've considered selling the old thing a few times over the years when things have been tight, but so glad it's still with us now (we picked it up from the importer on New Year's Day, 22 years ago).  Our boys have grown up, and will fly the coop soon...  it'll be lovely to visit them in the camper and tour about like we used to, well that's the plan anyway.

Campervan aside, the whole fleet is turn-key at the moment, mechanically at least.  I think it's the greatest hobby you can have, as you can enjoy the fruits of your labours twice a day, every day, taking the sting out of going to work!  Every one of them has been a commuter car at some point, and to me they are all excellent examples of what motoring is all about.
