Something a little unusual for Norway has appeared for sale.

1939 Morris 8  I like the look of it, but it's probably not as nice to drive and underpowered compared to American cars.image.png.a80489d150d592289a6d9bd2e58ce9e6.png

On the other hand 7-9l/100km instead of 12-14

I don't think such a small fuel saving would be worth it on a car that will see little driving.

And a question, this 1936 British built Ford Tudoor Deluxe is only listed with 10hp, is this really true? If so, this must be miserable.

Is the HP a financial rating like France or did it have no relevance?

It is stated in the registration information to only have 10hp engine power.

Norwegian roads from this time period  in this must not have been fun.

That's the fiscal hp, not the actual bhp.

This.

The Revenue HP also called the RAC HP.

It was from a formula created by the Royal Automobile Club for the Government.

image.png.149f6793a987664b6337607b01f1bcdc.png

Because of this formula many British cars had long stroke engines.

The Ford engine really produces about 26HP/20KW .

This is the very car that was my introduction to pre-war cars, a 1932 Invicta S Type with Carbodies open touring body. This car was always raced and I spannered on it. Including engine rebuilds under the supervision of the owner and on race days like changing the spark plugs on the grid a Silverstone.

Interestingly in line with reports that pre-war cars are dropping in price these super rare Low Chassis Invicta’s seems to have fallen in value. I seem to remember about 15 years ago them being £600,000 now they seem to be for sale at £300-£400,000. Still beyond my reach unfortunately.

Are there any fellow enthusiasts here for the stuff that makes cars from the 30s look modern in comparison? Here's a few highly original ones I saw at Louwman:

I know the thread title is "Pre war car" but the war in question is not the Sikkim Expedition 😀

Used to attend the London Brighton every other November before it changed organisers and became "an Experience", so yes have a love of Veteran Cars.

A late friend found a steam car engine that would have been London to Brighton eligible if it had still been in its original car.

Mike then built a replica around it .

I do like and admire the really early ones. Days of real innovation, often to remain one-offs if the resources to support production weren't available.

I have a few updates on my Riley if anybody is interested.

Should I post them here or in my fleet thread ?

Probably easier - especially for you -  if you have your own thread for it. Put a link here to it though.

I think it deserves its own thread.

This car was at Brooklands today, along with maybe every other extant Invicta. There were more than 20 of them anyway. I didn’t take a photo of that particular car.IMG_0190.jpeg.fc39bf50a4611f8ed96bab62f38ed381.jpeg

It’s the car between white one and the red one - behind the guy in the black jacket.

TV Guide roaming threw up 'Bangers & Cash', Matthewsons, last night....

It's scary to look [through cold eyes 🫤] at the array of types *selling (4 years welding/lying on cold garage floor... BUT 'full of love' for a project) vs. Chequebook buyers.

The 'mildly warm' Austin [no servo/pas] looked a hoot (... the daughter like the 'toot' 🤣)

One of the challenges of following 30's cars is working out what's what...

You Standard looks lovely never seen one before.

Standard.

1934 Lanchester looking similar.

I suppose with the tech they had there was only so many ways to design a car body.

'Flying' in Standard terms refers to the late-30s streamlined cars with the waterfall grilles, etc. What yu have there is very much a ratite Nine, from about 1934

What is the car that appears to be dumped in the drive?

This picture is around 1959/60, my parents first house my father built with his own hands.

I think that is a 1937-40 Vauxhall 10. A few made '46-'47 too.

Nice house still there?
