Carlton for me. Yes I am a GM nut but it also has rarity on its side. There's rakes of old Volvos and Mercs around. When was the last time anyone saw any Carlton in the wild, let alone an estate?

@sierraman I had that green one on watch. Lovely. It was an auto though and I bloody hate autos 😆

That is an automatic as well. The pictures were a bit shit mind so could be rotten round chassis legs. I’d gone down a rabbit hole after I’d sent @sutty2006a Royale that looked a good project.

volvo 740, having driven some, and came so close to buying my step fathers estate but being married with kids ment it was financially viable

740! All the others are just playing at it by comparison!😄

They are the estate car. Period.

Although the Carlton is a lovely car too, and therefore I’d keep that one as well.

Merc for me, always liked that version, although the T5 ticks boxes too, but both have to be in Red for me.

Let me be honest here. I voted for the Volvo 740GLE because the Volvo is all the estate you need and THE king of estate cars.

However, if my heart rules my head, the Merc 200TE would be the one I keep. I used mine to move house (even thought it had been crashed into 🤬)

I miss it, but the Vectra whilst being a fairly capacious car has nothing on the 740GLE or Merc 200TE in terms of loading space.

I voted for the 740GLE as it is a great car, I like the Mercedes also but the Carlton would be a close second for me especially if it was higher spec. and a bit older. I like Carlton’s and have thought about getting one several times especially when they were more common. I think the 740GLE estate is the best Volvo ever and a great estate car.

740GLE.  There's no contest, it literally is every car anyone could ever need.

As a backup I could be enticed into the Carlton or Mitsubishi, as long as they have a Proper Gearbox, not one of those silly DIY jobbies that requires more pedals than I have feet.  But they will always be in the shadow of the Peak Car.

Carlton for me also. I like them all for different reasons, but the Carlton is the one that makes me go 'Oooft'.

V70 for me though the 740 was a close second

If the s124 was a diesel, then it would be a difficult choice.

As it isn't, then it's an easy Volvo 740 win. ALL THE SCOTS NEED SECTIONING

As much as I’m a Carlton botherer through and through, I’d be keeping the Volvo T5.

reasons? You’ve only had the Carlton 4 years. It won’t hurt to pass it on. Some of those cars you’ve had a few years longer than the T5 but a couple of years doesn’t hurt. The T5 is a brilliant car, square, cool, practical and fast. I regret selling ours but it served its purpose, I would love another as a daily though.

some very cool cars there, it’s gonna be a tough decision!

It’s literally 10 minutes away from me, who knew a gem like that was in hiding.

I've voted for the Carlton as I've had a few over the years, the last being a 3.0 Diamond with all the toys..

No, sell me the V70! It's awful don't know why you own it.

740 for me.

Merc would likely win out with a different engine but a 2.3 auto is peak 740 estate.

I voted Carlton as always liked them and that one was registered locally to me. Otherwise it would have been the Sigma, love the brand.

When I was a kid my parents actually had the following sequence:

Carlton 2.0

745 GL

ZX Reflex 1.9d

Sigma 3.0

So this was a choice with a personal slant.  I went with the 740 as I still love the styling, and those stainless hubcaps on alloys are beyond cool.

Also, a Mercedes should always have more than 4 cylinders.

I was very close to selecting the Carlton then I saw the V70 is a T5 and the turbot power won me over.

The Merc just squeezed past the 740 for me. Tough choice though.
