Lottery Win Shite…

Recommended Posts

Posted

Any regular Joe can buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini with a good size lottery win behind them.

Us shiters are a different breed.  Let’s imagine you win a multi million jackpot, what automotive turds are you buying that none of your friends and family will understand?

I’ll kick us off:

Crown Vic Interceptor - The cool car from pretty much every action film/tv show I grew up watching.

Renault 25 Pre-facelift - Just always loved th shape of these and the big squashy seats and ride like an old mattress.

Matra Rancho - Needs no introduction, the original SUV

Gold Syncro Country - Had a Jetta Syncro years ago and the thought of having a Golf with mega ground clearance just appeals.

Buick LeSabre - A hire car on a family holiday to the USA when I was a kid. I love sitting 3 abreast in the front and the column shift. I alway remember my Dad saying it “handled like a milk bottle”!

Ford Granada 2.9i Ghia X - RS Bodykit a must. My Dads mate had one when I was a kid and he used to borrow it sometimes when the mate was servicing our car. I absolutely loved it. Massive inside, looked awesome with kit and diamond cut RS alloys and had a cool V6 noise to boot. When my Dad bought it and came home and said it was ours, I didn’t believe him for a week!

Jeep Cherokee XJ - You’ve probably worked out now that I have a penchant for 90s American tat. This fits very nicely into that category and even better in rare 2-door guise.

Ford F Series Truck - Again slots nicely into the 90’s tat category, with the added bonus of being impractically large and stupid. Ideally in XLT Laramie (as shown) or Dually spec please!

Over to you, fellow shiters…

I'm afraid I'd also opt for a Lamborghini :

I would indulge in some exotic estates aka shooting brakes. Any or all of the below please.

Lagonda. Also, definitely a Voisin. Maybe several, I love both the earlier 1920s models as well as the later streamlined designs.

And a bb Polo Paris for shopping duties, an Opel Kadett E and make it into an exact replica of the one my dad had, one of the remaining Heine-Velox if they will ever be for sale, something that's eligible for the London-Brighton run, and a vintage tractor to use around the country house I will be buying. This looks alright. How much will this lottery win be? I might be overspending a bit....

I think first off, I'd have to buy a large shed or small warehouse. Probably live above it in a spacious apartment.

Then I'd restore what I already have, and add;

I grew up around a lot of the Mercs and BMWs, particularly as a teen when my Dad was transporting and buying and selling cars around the time when importing and exporting cars was a big thing in Belgium around the early 00s.

Firstly a house move would be needed as parking for 6 cars really isn't enough!

Then actual vehicles, hmmmmmmmm?

I have a big soft spot for AEC Matadors, Unimogs and Airport Fire tenders (but could I really justify buying something so silly?) Not sure....

85117385_186743079338818_8752689448514224128_n.thumb.jpg.3cd91e7a8a2aa2748baabf459df5daff.jpg

Honestly I don't have a Thunderbirds fixation at all!

Next size down would be a Series 3 109 land rover in 2 door, hard top form preferably with a modrnish diesel lump and comfy seats out of virtually any other car and plenty of patina , cant stand a restored looking Landy!

After that actual cars....

Todays list is

Jaguar XJS V12 pre HE in scruffy condition

MK3 Granada in 2.8 4x4 spec (the delusional man's XR4X4).

Opel Manta B late seventies metal bumper version but lightly modded for more go.

p1.jpeg.152422c6726195d32e7da3d98f299c87.jpeg

Maybe some K car action? Personally my favourite Ks are the Daihatsu Cuore Avanzato TR-XX R4 and the Honda Beat

And finally something a bit upright and stately, maybe a Humber Imperial?

Humber-Imperial-12.thumb.webp.db100d9dd9598c7b1504c4753908ca27.webp

Tomorrow I will probably change my mind on most of these!

This is a good choice for the millionaire-shiter’s shopping car.  For me it would have to be the 4 litre,  manual,  2 (rear) wheel drive  variant in red or white.    The last passenger car made with a solid front axle?

Put a load of money into what I've got... although I'd buy another Vectra as well.

And likely I'd have a Mk2 Cortina, Mk1 Cavalier, a dark red X300 Jag, and some base model Mk3 Escort for going to the shops and back.

There is a rather fucked Mk10/420G on Ebay for not very much. But. I would love to build the car it should have been right from the outset. The 4.5 V8 from the Daimler Major, fully spec'ed up, even more luxurious interior, air-con, electric windows all round, and badged as a Daimler. I would also have series 1 XJ12. I love that interior. I would also have one of every Rover, P3,4,5,6, SD1, 800, 600, and 75. The same for Jaguar, Mk9, 2, S type, E Type, [of course], convertible and hardtop. American, 57Chevy, 4 door pillarless hardtop, and a convertible. Maybe a Shelby Mustang as well. Oh, and a place with a big barn to keep them all in. 😁There's probably more somewhere, it would be a very big barn!!

Aston Martin Lagonda, flip up lights and CRT dash model, ta. Then drop it off at Retropower for some... Fiddling.

Aston Vantage LM600, but without the weird grille.  Air ride, big wheels, good stereo.

Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake.

Metro 6r4, air ride, big wheels, comfy seats.

E39 540i touring, plush spec.

And a few dozen more. All repainted in Berwick Bronze.

I would need to start by purchasing a huge barn, then get all my current cars restored. Daily driving would be shared between the ‘82 model Cortina estates also the occasion trip in a Granada, SD1 or CX, I would add a series 2 1600E to my collection plus a Lotus Esprit Turbo, early Eclat and Esprit, series 1 and 2 Jaguar XJ12’s, one manual and one auto, a Rover P5B coupe, mk2 Granada Ghia 2.8i estate, early Capri mk2 3.0 Ghia manual, early Capri mk3 3.0 Ghia auto, seventies Mini 1000 plus more Cortina’s ( obviously) For when I needed to be less conspicuous I would use the S210 Mercedes.

Then for silly stuff an early Aston Martin Lagonda (1970’s) and early Rolls Royce Camargue, Lamborghini Espada, Ferrari 400 manual, Maserati  Khamsin and early 2 door Wood and Pickett Range Rover ( in case it snows)

I’d have all sorts of cars, but I’d be driving a mechanically tip-top, but very ropey looking mk3 Granada. Maybe with  painted rust.

This is not an exhaustive list else I’ll be here all day:

For a daily I’d like a BMW 340i, M3 is a bit too flashy for a daily IMO.

I’d also like the following 10 (off the top of my head):

Toyota Sprinter Trueno

Pontiac Trans Am (70s one)

Ford Crown Victoria with a manual gearbox conversion

Peugeot 505 GTI

Suzuki Alto Works RS/Z

BMW M5 E28

Subaru Impreza GC8

Citroen SM

Nissan Skyline R32

Honda NSX-R

Its a tricky question to answer cos one look on ebay and my list would change...

...then I'd see an old car somewhere and the list would change again...

...quick look on flickr and it changes again!

Probably best for the DVLA that I havent won, LOL!

In addition to my list above...

...I'd treat myself to a new toolbox...

...and a TIG welder of my own so I could practice not electrocuting myself...

...and a 2 post lift for my workshop cos I'm getting older...

...and one of those body tilt things cos they look great!

...and a decent trailer as every project I see is the other end of the country....

The only AML car I've ever driven and to be totally honest I wasn't that impressed with it at all. Buy an XJ12 HE instead.

If I really did win mega money, I'd buy the following:

The crumbling, untouched-for-fifty-years and complete with bar, snooker room and bevy of garages 1960s 'dream bungalow' that's up for sale near me.

Capri 2.8 Injection Special for my mum.

Mondeo Vignale for my dad.

Mk2 Golf GTi for my best friend.

Mk2 Capri 3.0 for myself and then customize it in money-no-object fashion: V8, Dralon interior, Jag axle, airbrush paint, etc.  I'd also have a Z-car of some description - probably a later Zodiac, an Escort cabriolet and another Mk1 Focus as a runabout.  Maybe a Fiesta, too, 'cause I love driving them.

Leave the Cossies and the RS stuff to the proper collectors.
