Any Ford Capri fans?

I was always secretly envious of green MK2 Capri and subsequent red MK3 that my friend's dad had, who lived right across the road from me. They were only 1.6Ls but my dad's Volvo 340 just wasn't as cool.

I recall he also had a lovely varnished wooden trailer that he used to tow behind it, mainly for tip runs and carrying general trinkets.

Just about finished a bare metal restoration on my mk2 1.6L.

Ive had it since 2001, always wanted one as a kid so bought this when I was 16! It was a complete shed though back then! Did a semi restoration on it then in 2016 started doing it properly.

One of my all time favourites the Capri, a proper working mans sports car. I love it because it harks back to probably better times, it just looks the part, even if it’s a 1.6 it still looks a million dollars. Nothing sophisticated, a bit like a kebab late at night after 8 pints, hits the spot. Does the job.

My Grandad had one like this, white with vinyl roof. I can not remember if it was an L, GL or Ghia.

When I was 20 I came into a bot of money and wanted a 3.0S so went to my local Ford dealership. They didn't have any used ones on their forecourt at the time so I left my details  and waited. A few days later they phoned and said the had a MK2 Escort Sport coming in, I said I want a Capri. Whilst waiting I found an Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 and got that instead. I never did get that 3.0S.

My first journey in a car was back from hospital in the back of a  diamond white 79 mk3 in spring 1980.

Don’t get too excited it was a 1.3

I nearly bought a supposedly decent 85 2.0 laser in about 2005 for £500 off of the (recently departed) Bob from bobs affordable classics in Knowle.  The decimal point has moved to the right now.

That’s very similar to one I used to lust after as a kid. It was always parked in a little dead end bit of the street next to my aunt and uncle’s house in Doncaster, near a load of old council garages.
It was a GL or XL though as it had the side trims. Even back then it was pretty rough. Vinyl roof was peeling and there were big rust blisters all around the rear pillars under the vinyl. Big rusty stains coming down from behind the side trims too and a huge black underseal tide mark around its lower sections. All the seats were torn and rotten from sunlight too.

I can’t imagine it was around for much longer after that as they were worthless back then, especially the older mk1 and 2 models.
It was a fantastic looking old thing though, even in the state it was in. I’m pretty sure it was that one that left enough of an impression on me to get my own!

Can you tell I wanted a DeLorean?

Fond memories!

I don't get any returns when searching MoT history. Does that mean it was cubed?

That's a very early one, nice.

MK2 son has one,  MK3 laser bought as a rolling shell about 4 years ago from a mate for £500.

It was predictably quite bad, but he can weld, and is obsessive about panel gaps etc so it's coming on slowly.

Oh and it now has a 302 and T5, with LSD....😄

It was built in March 74, still has its original engine and strut tops too! It cost me all of £100 to buy it!😆

Often wondered if any of those vista specials survive.

In the 90's there used to be a yellow MK1 facelift with federal bumpers opposite market rasen race course.

When I think of Ford Capris, I think back to being 11 years old back in the mid 1980s. My dad owned a nearly new Ford Orion (in rosso red - lovely looking car at the time).

I stayed at a mates farm for the night and dad was due to collect me the next day. He always parked at the lane entrance and walked up to the house as the lane hedges were pretty overgrown and harsh on the flanks of any motor piloted along it. He remains very proud of his fleet today - despite being in his late 70s, the motor on his driveway which he likes the most is his Toyota GT86.

Anyway, I digress. Dad collected me from the farm and as we walked around the final corner at the end of the lane, I spotted a near-as-dammit new Ford Capri 2.8 injection in Paris blue metallic. It turned out that he'd been given this 6 pot hottie as a loaner while the Orion was at the dealership for some routine work. Everything about that Capri was superior to the Orion from the perspective of an 11 year old petrolhead lad. I remember asking him if he could do a deal on it for his motor and the answer was a no, along with a gentle laugh. I can still feel the disappointment of going to the dealership with him the next day, and having to give it back 😆.

Had loads in late 80s, very early 90s, all 3 litres except for a X-plate graphite/silver 2.8i. Loads of stories there, part of my life.

My mum had a red 1970 Mk1 1600GT  from 1982 till around 1990. Can still smell the Ford vinyl interior. Was owned from new by my dad's pal.
