adw1977 Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 This was sold via Easylive auction in 2021 and the sale description includes this: "The car came off the production line at Canley, Coventry on the 5th July 1979 and was destined for a small Leyland dealership in Scotland. Presented in Brooklands Green with Green and Black Cord interior, this Home Market car came with inertia seat belts, Sundym glass, heater and 5-speed gearbox. The story goes that dealership proprietor was so pleased with the Triumph, he decided to retain it as an early retirement present to himself and as such, the car remained unregistered as a showroom centrepiece for the next 14 years. quicksilver Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 Some late registration truck shite from a couple of recent shows. I think we've seen this Guy before but I asked the owner what its story is. It's one of the last Big Js built in 1978, by which time it was an elderly and outclassed design so Leyland were practically giving them away. The first owner's accountant convinced them it made financial sense to buy it and keep it in storage even though they had no immediate use for it, and it was still unregistered and unused when they ceased trading. The next owner finally put it on the road when it was seven years old and its contemporaries were coming out of service. I can't remember what he said it replaced but it was a more modern truck and the driver was surprisingly okay with this downgrade. Imagine getting this mid-1960s design as your new truck in 1985. This International is another year-letter at the wrong end cock up as it's an import new in 1978. The owner said the plate was already on it when he bought it and didn't realise there was anything wrong with it. Dyslexic Viking and LightBulbFun 2
