Fugly steering wheels

i found them uncomfortable to use..

Yeah I don't like them either (my Dad drives a 2023 Partner). As long as steering wheels make full rotations I prefer them to be round.

*Pedant Mode*

Because that is a yoke, not a steering wheel.

But yes, it’s horrendous.

Rover 800. In original form ive no complaints. Add airbags and the cool dash shelf sweep with the veneer is gone. Back on topic and to the wheel and the rover logo is colourless and now part of the centre boss, which becomes a bulbous blob.  It always seemed a clumsy way to “upgrade” the interior. Yuk.

Not so much 'fugly' as 'didn't think it through'... Mk7 Fiesta Roland Rat edition.

Add Rishi Sunak to complete the set of three.

This monstrosity in a non-Mulliner spec Bentley Continental, made worse with the 2-tone colour way:

Used Bentley Continental GT W12 Continental GT W12 (U2248) For Sale

By paying a King's ransom upgrading to Mulliner spec or Speed/Supersports models you got this. Although an improvement it's still not befitting a £150k+ car:

Used Bentley Continental cars | 6.0 W12 GT Speed Auto 4WD Euro 5 2dr | Red

I am pretty sure that is a simple re-trimming of a standard VW wheel.

The stupid tiny and unround wheels in modern Peugeots.

I've driven a LOT of cars and never in my entire life have I ever had a problem with any steering wheel apart from the new Peugeot one above.

They are ABSOLUTELY the devil's creation, horrid to use, too small to be comfortable and they do honestly get in the way of reading what's on the dash clocks, I've never been able to getnone adjusted just right, it's either too low or too high that I can't read the dash.

That's not fugly, thats genius!

Yep, I always thought this quite a good idea, it surely makes sense for the steering wheel controls to remain stationary, rather than finding everything suddenly upside down and back-to-front while manoeuvring, I think it was also supposed to be safer in an accident for the airbag to 'launch' from a fixed position.

Kind of a shame it never caught on, and now even Citroen themselves seem to have abandoned it.

350z. I’ve always liked the styling of these but I can never get over how cheap and terrible the steering wheel looks

The bulbous centre of the MK1 Focus steering wheel always gave me the ick:

I think that’s because the steering column comes out below the bulkhead shelf.

I hate flat bottomed steering wheels, they're fucking HORRIBLE to live with in practice.

Sure, not an issue 98% of the time, but try parallel parking or backing out of a space with one, Very disconcerting when you're focused on your surroundings mid manoeuvrer, the wheel randomly ends and your grasping at thin air.

This one. The early R17 Rover 800s didn't even have airbags iirc and they were still lumbered with equally ugly steering bosses.

That reminds me of the wheel fitting to certain Ford XD & XE Fairmonts:

I believe it was a no cost option to have the normal lower spec wheel fitted.

The late TD5 Defender 'Blob' was a particularly hideous thing. It instantly says 'we can't fit an airbag but nevermind we came up with this one afternoon after a particularly heavy lunch'.

In a similar vein, i don't particularly like the Disco 2 wheels. They always 'feel' a little back to front to me, almost like it's been mounted back to front, the rim being set so much further back than the centre just looks so awkward. spacer.png

1970s VW Beetle steering wheel is just a big ol' slab of creaky plastic...

Recent Volvos look fantastic on the outside - yet in the inside a minimalist 'no effort' which just looks crap and lazy.

Worse still is that mine has a none air bag version of the air bag style wheel (what's that about?), I could in theory swap it for a 3 spoke but not sure I can be bothered........
