The lack of flair people seem to have with bodywork beggars belief sometimes. It can’t be done in one afternoon, but the times I’ve seen filler with big furrows in it, the wrong shade, too much put on etc…

Was at the B&C place last year and there was a Mk1 Escort, at presumably eleventy million quid, big fish eyes all over the show, unflattened filler.

It's a real art to get it right and once you've seen a good paint job Vs a bad one, you can see where the cost difference comes.

I must admit though when I hear of people being quoted £4k for a basic repaint I do wonder how many people actually get the vehicle done for that as in all the time I had my place, albeit 17yrs ago I never had a job come in that was worth more than about £1800. Really hard to get people to play with that much cash unless it's a really special vehicle.

My boss in Honda had his VW van done for £4500 and I thought it was a really good job to be fair but then perhaps I'm totally out of touch as the guy told him next time it would be nearer £6k and to not let anyone know he'd had it done for that.

My suggestions to anyone with bodywork who's trying to save a few £££ is always try to get the car stripped down as far as possible, door seals out, windows, trim, get new panels etc, saves so much money and time in the end .Plus those type of jobs can be done in-between other jobs so the body shop know that they don't have to commit a full week to strip and build, they can do the hard bits and pass it back to the customer saving at least a day in labour if not more.

Decided the rear bumper on the bug was too floppy and noisy , so I cable tied a steel rod to it under the number plate to weigh it down and stiffen it up ...

That's far too sensible and effective for this thread!

Can’t find the link, but the Landrover wing made from a wheels  bin is the best.

Currently in La Peckham. There are a lot of fucked looking cars clinging onto life, think this is my favourite so far

I dont have a pic but we used to look after a Mitsy L200 owned by a farmer. He used it to feed his cows. The cows realised the pick up was quite good if you had an itch! The truck was 3 years old but didnt have a straight panel on it.

To make up for not snapping it, heres some pics of a scaffolding contractors L200 where he 'fixed' the problem of paying for expensive genuine roll bars...

scaffold 3 scaffold 2 Scaffold 1

FIXT!

I suspect a ladder rack rather than a roll bar, nice.
