Incidentally I once appeared in a HubNut video as ‘Man Collecting Car (Uncredited)’ - if content creators are supposed to pay people to take their stickers, perhaps I should have charged an appearance fee and negotiated a percentage based on my screen time of future earnings from the video, and maybe @dollywobbler should have given me the car rather than me contributing to his channel and his YT earnings by actually paying for it. Of course I’m being facetious, but to my mind there’s a world of difference between the corporate advertising world and a YouTuber (even the mega successful ones like Colin Furze, How Ridiculous and Mighty Car Mods) flogging merch as a revenue stream to support the channel.

Think it's more than that isn't it?

People like to know they're part of a tribe. Plenty of us are going around in cars we paid for because we like the brand. Plenty here wear band t-shirts of artists we like. Plenty here pay FAR TOO FUCKING MUCH FOR A FOOTBALL OR RUGBY JERSEY because we align with that club or nation.

And really, plenty here don't want to have adverts during videos on YouTube and don't want to pay £12.99 a month to take them off, so will look for other ways to support the channel.

I'd have thought that the sort of companies who'd be willing to pay you would be selling stuff that appeals to your target audience. I'm thinking of car related stuff like insurance and HPI checks. I'm not saying that old car enthusiasts never buy protein shakes but if I was in charge of the marketing of ROIDRAGE ANABOLIC MEAL REPLACEMENT SHAKES then I'd be approaching YouTube channels that focused on diet and fitness rather than a channel with a high Daewoo Matiz content.

I will say that Jay Foreman and the Map Men YouTube channel take sponsorship and manage to make their ads as watchable as the rest of their content. On the other hand, the vast majority of content creators make their hawking pitches about as subtle as the following...

Although it may now feel like this to the YouTube content creators on here, you're actually in a golden age of sponsorship where people are approaching you offering to pay you money. I've worked in media sales and I can assure you that in every other branch of the media it's the other way around. If you don't believe me then contact Baur Media with an enquiry about placing an advert. They'll bite your hand off and do anything to secure your business.

Do you think that companies and advertising agencies queue up and fight over a 30 second ad break slot during the latest ITV drama? No! ITV have a dedicated sales team cold calling companies desperate to secure revenue from firms like Unilever. Unilever are all to aware of this and the power they have so they will use something called "Unileverage" to hammer down the price to basically mere bagatelle.

So Apple are forcing Patreon to increase prices for iOS users by 30% as they're forcing them to use Apple's own payment gateway for iOS. If they refuse then the app no longer goes on the App Store.

What is relevant here though is that a commenter on the piece is outraged by it because that's how they support YouTube channels they like, because if the creator refuses to run ads on the videos then the videos aren't promoted as high in the search results.

And bizarrely, I still watch Doug DeMuro, even though most dislike him on here. I think the reason is, because all the videos are the same and there's no personal drama or political shizzle thrown in, it's just an car, and the things that the car does. Although his driving segments are rubbish (variations on spry, tossable for a large car, and quick steering)

I like Motorweek's 5 minute retro reviews and a bit of Regular Car Reviews because of his weird connections of cars to 90's culture.

Oh and Smith and Sniff because it just passes by as humorous background entertainment.

In terms of car content there's only really @Twin-Cam and @dollywobbler that I watch regularly, most of the stuff I watch is history related. I haven't made a video for my own channel for about a year, I do have some ideas but it's having the time and the inclination to do them

We have some mandatory training at work on elf, safety and Internet security. Most of the videos can be watched at 2 x speed with no loss in clarity.

Watched the latest episode yesterday and just about fell over laughing at the advertising segment.  The only channel where I will voluntarily watch the adverts.  How they don't have full-time jobs in the industry, I do not know...

I absolutely promise that police are interested in stolen cars. The issue is the near-constant reduction of roads policing officers, the risk-averse culture that runs all the way to the to and beyond, and the fact that the thin blue line is stretched ever thinner dealing with an increasing workload. Most cops on a shift have more than 20 "active" jobs that need them to complete further enquiries or paperwork, while still responding to the everyday emergencies; each of which generates more paperwork and so it snowballs.

Police officers love catching burglars, thieves, and violent scum; but the system they now work in makes it almost impossible to be proactive. 

Add to that the risk of a years-long criminal investigation if they are involved in a serious or fatal collision, even if all they've done is activate the blue lights and Johnny Scrote has taken off and crashed... Its a wonder any of them still turn up to work.

Fair enough - I should have added the caveat that this was very much a symptom and I wasn't trying to imply individual coppers don't care.  The car has actually been recovered and returned to Brewer but I can't help but wonder if his high profile and his initial experience of seeming indifference from the rozzers helped to get some action.  I certainly hope that anyone else would be accorded the same.

I’ve started to watch 6D Diesels after discovering the hedgepug 305 playlist; I’m not into Merc commercials much but their T1 conversion to Sprinter drivetrain is worth a watch.

All Things Alex after discovering he had a 104 for a while; and through him Alex’s Assets. She’s as mad as a box of frogs and dailies a Marina estate. 

I have unsubscribed to WrenchingWench because of lack of new content and her VAG cars aren’t my bag, and also Salvage rebuilds; for a while they did all sorts of crash repairs and started restoring an HA Viva, but nearly every video now is a 2-3 year Beemer, or some clickbaity “We got ripped off by CoPart” title.
