2CV racing with car #48 - the 2025 season begins...

24-hour race at Snetterton this weekend.

Car #48 is once more the de facto Autoshite Racing & Special Engineering entry, and we have the banner to prove this.  Crew from the Beige include Yours Truly, @Talbot, @juular, @MrsJuular, @davidfowler2000, @Gabriall, @Crackers, and hopefully a special guest appearance from the much-missed @Inspector Morose.  There will be a livestream and constant drivel from us.

Scary thing: we don't leave until tomorrow, but we're already packed and ready to go...

Great stuff. Can't be many race series where you get to use an F1 garage and race at Silverstone, then a few weeks later getting sideways* at Lydden Hill!

We are hoping @Andyrew will be along as well.

I know I’ve said this before but this is right up my street and I’d love to come along someday. Maybe spanner, make tea, get in the way, etc.

Bon chance!

54 laps in, running a strong 5th in class.  George is knocking out consistent 1:51 laps.

We're now THIRD!

They're very hot on track-limits violations this year. George has had a black/white flag warning and I was called to Race Control.  Words of advice were issued!

Same as the last two years: Laurence Broadhurst (car owner/builder), his son George, and 2013 winner Neil Savage.

100 laps down and we're back in 5th, following a couple of apparent issues with oil consumption.  Topped up, out circulating again.

The mech types have listened to the engine as it went past the pit wall, and have called it good.  We are 4th.

I really need to make it to this one year soon!

Neil was a silly billy and overtook ("drew level with..." - racing driver excuse #500) another car after the safety car came in but before the start/finish line.  This resulted in a stop/go penalty.

Back to 5th.  Stern words were had.

By way of an update.  The chassis is absolute toast.  It appears there was a "racing incident" at the exit of turn 1, and car 48 came off worst.  Heavy impact on the offside chassis rail has not only twisted and parallelogramed the chassis ahead of the steering rack/front axle tube, but it has also pushed the offside chassis rail back by about 30mm.  The steering column has been punched back towards the driver, and there is a huge bend in the top chassis panel behind the front axle.

Whilst yes, it is possible to bend anything straight again, this would require the body off to do so properly,  and it was determined to be absolutely not viable here.

It needs an replacement chassis.  This one is a used crisp packet.

I don’t know, I miss this for one year and you break it!

Commiserations to all the team, I know how much work has been involved and  for this to happen will be utterly gutting.

so, about next year…..

Bummer. These things can and do happen. That, as they say, is racing.

Parked what's left of #48 at Race HQ about an hour ago.  It's very bent.  The last race at Oulton Park in October is looking a bit optimistic.

If only there was a good spare chassis lying around somewhere, like at the FoD... 🙂

Word.

And though, as noted elsewhere, the events of the weekend are indeed gutting, the team was once again the tightest and best of any along the pit lane.

Big thanks to all the shiters involved: @davidfowler2000, WOMAN_df2k (Wee Sarah!), @juular, @MrsJuular, @Crackers, @Andyrew, @Talbot, @Gabriallwith @Inspector Morose in spirit.

with that many shitters present, at what point do we just relieve @brownnova of one of his spare 2CV's, paint it forum colours and go rogue or Independent as they call it these days :)
