I had to re-read that, as at first glance I was struggling to comprehend how the collection plan could have gotten so confused as to result in our protagonist ending up inside of @Talbot

So, I've got this Simca now.

Seller came to the airport as planned. He was messaging me from outside "hurry up,  this parking is gonna clean me out" but i had to wait in the long queue with all the other gullible English folk, all having to have their passports minutely inspected and stamped. Took almost an hour, while all the Spanish folk were done and gone in 10-15 mins.

Anyway with that done I grabbed my bag of hammers and ran outside to this beautiful sight right outside the terminal:

The seller was dead nice and within 100 yards my stress levels were dropping rapidly. He drove it, but there were no droney wheel bearings, no steering wheel snakes,  no slippy clutch and basically NOTHING for me to stress over. It seemed ABSOLUTELY FINE!!!

Drove to a service station 20 mins away where we had a drink and did the paperwork, all very painless. Then I had a quick tour round it, a jolly handshake and off I went!!! Had to drive to Castellon which was half an hour up thd dusl carriageway.

Initial driving impressions:

* Cruises happily at 60mph, much beyond that seems slightly abusive

* Very comfortable seats

* wonderfully shit one-speaker radio cranking out 'Lo mejor de la musica de las ultimas cuatro decadas'

* no worrying noises

* lights all seem to work

* gearchange is a little bit grumpy

* got half a tank of pez in

* temperature gauge steady

* VERY roly poly, and glides over the bumps despite only having tiny tyres

* feels like it will make it home OK

I drove it to my hotel (which amazingly I went straight to - thanks Google maps) and parked up. How's this for street furniture.

Will do some more photos and inspections/reports tomorrow when I have a few more watt-hours in my battery but sò far I'm desperately looking for, and failing to find, stuff to stress over. It doesn't even have any oil leaks man. Alternator and battery are a year old and after all that fan belt chat, there is a new spare in the boot.

The tickover is a little high and I noticed when backing into the hotel parking earlier that it seemed slightly smelly, so tomorrow I might whip off the air filter and check the choke is coming off fully. Otherwise i am just gonna get On with my big journey home!!!

Had a wander round Castellon looking for street-parked Seat Rondas but I think I'm a few (10) years too late tbh. Saw a few C15s and Phoenix-era Rovers but that was all. Went in a Moroccan cafe thing and ate a fantastic lamb tagine which cost like €8. Finished off with a sugary mint tea (also great) then back to the 'HOTEL ROSTITS' (€45 per night) to get some kip. No alarm clock tomorrow, I'll get going when I feel like it. Bliss!!!
