Looking very much like I will have to come down to Shitefest after doing an early shift at work. When I say early... estimated book off time of 0830.

Various ideas were suggested for Saturday (and/or Sunday) - what are we thinking in the end?

I think most are heading over to Cosford.

If anyone is planning to do the canoe trip down the Severn, steam train back to Bridgnorth then they should probably book it pronto.

I tried to book a visit to the Telford Steam Railway but they couldn't do the 13th.  They are open as usual on the Sunday if anyone wants to go on the way home.

Blacksmith experience 2 miles away is still an option if someone wants to organise it and have a go at punning some metal. Or just mooch and have a coffee.

Blacksmiths breeze is circa 20 quid a bag, he doesn't use a gas forge, donations in Guinness are considered as local currency as well as the Kings shilling.

I need a rough heads up on numbers if people are interested in stepping back in time. https://djbroome.wixsite.com/blacksmith/gallery?lightbox=image1wvm

I'll be taking the Rover to the BMC & Leyland show at Gaydon on the Sunday so it'll just be Friday evening and Saturday for me.

Posted

@Scruffy Bodger I'd be interested in the blacksmith visit, probably only for coffee and inhale some clinker fumes. It'd be me + master Grogee. What time do you think you'd leave site to get there?

(I've done the steam train thing twice in the last five years so I can sit that one out)

Just spoken to the landowner and preparations are going well.  We're going to put the marquee up in case of bad weather.

He did ask me to warn everyone about the state of the road to the site.  His track is in quite a good state but the public road past the site was last surfaced in 2001 and has some epic potholes.  Be careful, we don't want another situation like this months calendar picture!17201758302687005688279864001999.jpg.798161e4ca497f2d075cfd614b0da1bf.jpg

It'll be fine, I've taken plenty of Relays and Boxers down there.  I'll take my loppers tomorrow and try and get the plants back a bit!

Worth getting some of these and some markers so people can wear their forum name if they want to?

I've got a roll of blank sticky labels and a magic marker which I can bring if it helps.

I've had a few thoughts on food but thought a separate thread might make life easier.

I've been over at the site this weekend.  On the plus side;  The loo has arrived and the other one/shower block is working well.  The marquee is up along with the other shelters so we have plenty of cover if it rains (help to take the marquee down afterwards would be appreciated).

In a new development Andy needed to dig a ditch (the blue line next to the track) so parking near the track is now at a slight premium.  The weather is forecast to be good and the grass is a lot less boggy due to the ditch but we could do with getting any 4wds onto the field and as many cars as possible parked on the strip on the other side of the track.  It should still be plenty of space if we're careful.

Speaking of careful,  Ashfield Road which is the only road in is absolutely awful for potholes.  You could loose a Daihatsu in some of them.  Be really careful on the way between the village and the gate.
