The 106 feels a lot tighter, ride is very different.

I think there's a saveable car in there somewhere, it's more about whether it's financially prudent to fix or not. 

Engine seemed fine. @Jimbob McGregorchanged the vee belt and the alternator quietened down. 

It's ULEZ compliant in Glasgow, it's a genuine 70mpg, it's interesting and it's cheap to insure as a classic. 

I enjoy the adventure, the uncertainty and the misery a fair bit as well honestly.

That's the thing, realistically I'm not gonna fix it. I enjoy driving cars and picking them up but I'm fucking shite at fixing them. It's at the garage now which is the best place for it

Exhaust weld up
Brakes to go over
NSF shaft or CV joint

Don't get me wrong, no discredit. Apologies if that's the impression I gave. I was just being too light-hearted! 

All the advisory things like the tyres and brake pipes need not be considered in my opinion, but the rust near the front suspension mount has no excuse. Easy appeal with DVSA [not VOSA ] on that. 

The wheel bearing is anyone's best guess, if it's been laid up it may have been fine at time of test but as soon as it's been put into use with dried out grease or whatever that can easily happen.

What happens if I appeal with the DVSA about a car that passed when it shouldn't have? Do they get a bollocking? I'd obviously lose the MOT but would I gain anything from it?

The wheel bearing I agree with and it's what Jimbob said as well, could've been on the drive up.

If you're not going to get it fixed, understandably, then why not? If you're prepared to get it all fixed then I agree there's probably no point, but if you, understandably, aren't prepared to throw good money after bad, the current MOT on it shouldn't be on it so it might as well be removed, ensuring whoever is responsible is held accountable. 

Was it bought from a private seller or trader? I'm not trying to get all "don't get done get dom" about it but if it's a trader of some sort, even a trader posing as a private seller then selling a car with a bent MOT needs to see them struck off from doing it to someone else. It's borderline criminal if there's anything particularly unsafe, the wheel bearing being the main thing but like we say, tricky to prove due to the miles covered. 

If the car isn't being fixed then get the bent MOT taken off it and the dodgy tester scolded to stop it happening to someone else

Yes you wouldn't gain much, but if it is that fucked then it can't be sold with that MOT in good faith, so it might as well be sold as an MOT failure/needing work disclosed meanwhile they face the appropriate consequences
