Forgot about the Trooper's turning circle. My old Mk1 was proper Herald-esque. The Daihatsu Fourtrak turns about as well as a barge by comparison.

Bizarrely, they only seem to have that reputation in the States.

Not *that* bizarre to figure out why, mate. We have higher speed limits, more people, and more highway miles. So the database is larger and more comprehensive. Plus, the commies at "Consumer Reports" (founded by Ralph Nader of Corvair-hating fame) have tried for 40 years to undermine the auto industry. Because they hate capitalism... like a few people here.

I can tell you without any bias one way or the other that I saw a Trooper in my rear-view mirror completely come unhinged and into a ditch at a slow speed weave turn that my heavily laden IH (with trailer/race car) easily manuevered. So, whatever. It is what it is. :?

Didn't Michael Moore campaign on behalf of Ralph Nader?

I've never heard this before, or experienced it in any of the 3 we've had.

More Audi 5000esque American bollox and I'd wager the guy behind you was a ham-fisted idiot.

We have higher speed limits

O RLY? That's a new one on me. Speed limits in the States have always seemed to me to be ludicrously low for the size of the roads (although not quite as bad as Australia). Having said that, I've never driven in Ohio - maybe you have higher limits there?

I didn't witness the incident you mention so I can't comment on that, but I've driven both my Troopers along some pretty shite Norfolk backroads at quite a respectable lick, and although I did have a couple of brief sideways moments when I overcooked things a bit, I never got close to tipping one over. In fact the Trooper felt safer on twisty roads than the Range Rover

Yep. The same MM cited here as an "authority" on US health care.

I'll see your Michael Moore and raise you Mark Thomas.

Well, let's see if we can play high-low here. Is your 70MPH NLS higher or lower than Texas' 80MPH or Maine's 75MPH?

I didn't say anything about Ohio. Nor did I say that US limits were as high as they could be. (Montana had an autobahn - unspecified - speed limit not too many years ago.)

Norm

How enthusiastically are the limits enforced? I have a clean licence and regularly drive at 85+.

Why dont you lot and the sherman tank start a dribbling shite thread and clear up this Ebay one you tossers. Your bringing a good site down

Agreed Craig, never seen a more pig-like snout on a car! However when the one shown wasn't very old, I did find its twin stranded on the centre crash barrier on the M55 one morning. A moment of inattention and look, 4x4 becomes 4xnone!

People bring themselves down, Freddie.

The fuck-it/I'm-gone types like taking public swan dives to drama-queen themselves and their martyrdom. BFD, not impressed. You, or anybody who wants to cluck at Mr. Claim or Mr. Norm could do far more with a PM than a high wire 3-ring bigtop seppuku.

I made a throwaway comment about a Trooper wrecking behind me a few years ago, and the Trooper Anti-Defamation League came to the "rescue" and started a non-ebay sideshow. Well, I'm so damned sorry they did that! Are they Matilda Tanks, then?

Calm down Norm!

Ouch! It would have looked better afterwards I suppose.

Actually it didn't look damaged at all... on the superstructure. I would guess that if you put it on a spit, you'd soon see creases that weren't there before. I can think of two or three of this model that I see around here, parked up and never seen on the road. Really should get a pic sometime, of one at least.

Always liked these since I went to the 1997 motorshow and sat in one. Ugly as sin mind.

I sat in one at the 1997 motor show too - probably the same one. I remember being particularly unimpressed that there was no detent to prevent one from going straight from fifth to reverse. That and I didn't like the odd double-cowled dashboard. I do like the look of them from the outside though, and I wouldn't kick a turbo diesel one out of bed, although they do seem to hold their money well.

ME TOO! I must admit me and Mrs E were close to doing some dotted line action with the CRV launch, she reckoned it looked like a tractor - I suppose it does!

I always thought having an Ambulance as a camper van would be a bit creepy however given the engine size on this is being displayed at 3500cc would I be right in think this had a factory fitted v8?

There must be a whole universe of pain in trying to get these back on the road but I hope someone does...

Did Citroen ever make a sexier car than this?

Possibly the SM - but I'm undecided which I prefer.

Is it just me or do they look even sexier when they're slightly shabby sitting on the floor on collapsed (depressurised, whatever I'm not techncial!) suspension? I'd be happy just to have one as a garden ornament but sadly even that is looking well beyond my means.

In fact I'm getting so excited thinking about it I'm going to change my avitar....

Isn't that XJS a pre-HE model? Must be mega rare now, alas most rotted away terribly.

How about this then? Im sure Barret would like to spend a bit of alone time with it...

AutoBee Pacemaker

Well spotted! That has to be the ugliest Special of the lot! Great to see it though, I only knew of one survivor so this is a great find. Owner looks like he's living the dream too, is that a Trabant peeking into shot? All stored outside too, someone get to Doncaster and find this guy's house!
