In hospital again...had gall bladder out and bile duct scraped out this morning...

 

Now have a tube up my Willy and am plumbed into a morphine pump...you press this wee buttoooooooooooooooooonnn..... :mrgreen:

Hope you're feeling better soon Scooters, from what I'm reading recently it's quite a drastic change. SWMBO is now waiting for the date to have hers out.

 

Driving lessons in the new tat once she's recovered. Not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not :|

Just fitted new windscreen wipers to The Volvo. Pity that I can't drive it in the rain (or the dark) until I figure out why the offside tail light doesn't work and the nearside brake light is permanently on when the lights are turned on; I think I might have crossed a wire or two the last time I removed the rear lights (in June) to clean them and the metalwork underneath them; I haven't actually driven the car in the dark or the rain since then...

 

Also, I passed my driving test on this day sixteen bloody years ago :shock:

It sounds like the earth on both sides is poor.

I've finally upgraded from a piece of paper to a pink plastic credit card size licence, obtained mine first on 28 september 2001 (at the age of 27...). Did it in a stupidly powerful Golf TDi, afterwards I thought all cars would move as soon as you let the clutch out without touching the throttle... quickly learned it didn't work like that in an old Transit on a French hill.

South Birmingham, BSM Vauxhall Corsa in August 1995 if anyone cars. Weekend after, went for a drive in my dad's Montego estate. KING OF THE ROAD!

 

Having tracked down a fantastic DIY store, I've got my hands on some copper washers and the BX's service is complete. Now pondering whether it's sensible to attempt to drive it to Warwickshire tomorrow. Whatever I decide, I'm taking it up to North Wales on Tuesday to collect a whole heap of bits, including a new accumulator sphere so the hydraulic pump isn't having to run all of the time...

Did the GB get removed laproscopically? If so, what's Willy tube about, mate? Hope you feel well. I had mine out, spent 1 night in the 'Spital, got out in the AM and jumped onto the farm tractor that afternoon to plow. No BFD. I have noticed no "life changes" whatsoever, know not what he's on about with that. Good luck to you and the other fella's wife with her op. It's a breeze, unless they can't do the removal laproscopically. If not, then it is quite serious open abdomenal surgery, and takes several weeks to recover from rather than my 24 hour diversionary experience.

Yeah had the gb removed by keyhole but will be in for several days. I don't have gall bladder disease rather a condition of a Dysfunctional Sphincter of Oddi. The first stop on the treatment is gall bladder...out...even if healthy. This has a 60% chance of success..If not the next step is major nasty complex op which has to be repeated every four years or so.

 

The pain I have now is related to the condition not the op. We won't know for a couple of weeks if it has.

I thought the same, but have yet to investigate them, as the first rule of Shep Dynamics states that any seemingly simple automotive problem I encounter will invariably never be easy to remedy... :roll:

Well, the proton went to the scrappy this morning (I suspect I've been robbed, but wasn't really in a position to argue) and I'm just home in an eminently non-shite (although certain future-shite) Saab 9-3 diesel wagon thing off favva_tone, which has only done 26k and it the newest thing I've owned by miles. Doubtless the cambelt will snap tomorrow. :oops: In penance for the modernism, I'm going to spend the rest of the day sweating like a prick, scanning in old SAAB Brochures, and the one I'm doing now is certain to please...

This just in. Have managed to get an 'in' on a 4x4 motoring title, so the Range Rover may get a stay of execution. Means I'll have to tackle some of its issues, but I'm ok about that. Especially now the BX is running again.

Yeah, apart from the bloody heater unit. Mechanically, it all seems quite jolly, but good grief that dashboard is a mess. Maybe I should convert it to soft-dash...

February 1998, Micra K11, Team Valley test centre. The following day I nearly rolled my (rotten 50 quid) Citroen Dyane Cote d'azur trying to race a mate in his 1.6CVH Escort MkIV.

I'd hold off any long trips until you've done the accumulator sphere, otherwise the chance of some shonky old piping rupturing under the undamped load of the pump is excellent...

More 'exciting' Camry news. Fitted my faithful JVC stereo and CD changer, which has seen service in various cars including two Nissans 300Cs, a Laurel and the now-sold Camry Sport, into the Camry estate. Also started adding token bits of plastic wood from the slightly later interior of the spares estate car, more to follow as and when I have time.

 

I had to move both the spares/project Camrys back onto my driveway after three months languishing on the track due to scaffolding around the house. Brambles were doing a good job of keeping a hold onto the saloon, but with a good battery both started first turn. I'd forgotten how clean the accident-damaged saloon is under the bonnet and it ran particularly well, but I think its future lies as a stripped-out trackday tool rather than on the road again, the damage just being too much to make it worthwhile when these things are so cheap.

 

The V6 has sat unused as I've been too skint to put fuel in it, but I must start putting some effort into the old thing. Two tyres and getting that HVAC switch panel would make a big difference.

 

The Laurel just works. Looking forward to taking that down to Clacton etc on Sunday.

Accidently set fire to the Lexus today, was doing an oil change and cleaned some spilt oil off with brake cleaner as I've done a few times before only this time it combusted and the engine caught fire :oops: luckily I was able to put it out fairly quickly with the aid of an extinguisher and its working fine.

Fanbelt dropped off the van, so I continued 1/4 of a mile home, steadily. Parked up, went to open the deck lid and BOOM. Water and steam everywhere.

You'd have thought they would make a header tank from a material resistant to boiling water under pressure. It was a nearly new pattern part by the looks of it.

 

 

Got that sorted, Had to wait while the motor factors opened the following morning because Halfords don't stock fanbelts anymore.

 

I whipped myself together a little sink/hob unit thing in a couple of evenings after "proper" work building t5 campers. Quite pleased with it (it goes behind the drivers seat)

Not pleased with the £150 cost of the sink/hob, but that's what they cost. Save's me £400 a year on the insurance though :?:

Dropped my son off for his first crack at the theory test* this morning, then with the sun cracking the flags and windows and sunroof open it was cheesey quavar '90s tunes on top blast and a full on Italian tune up on the bypass in the 80.

 

 

*Verdict: Fail. 40 (needed 44) for one part of the test, 38 (needed 43) out of the other part apparantly. Poor lad is gutted, but there you go.

That's a shitter. Hope he keeps his chin up and does a bit of revision and then gets it sorted next go.

 

I was the first year to do theory tests. They only had a stock of about 30 questions, and they were all in the practise book, so when I got in the exam I'd already seen all the questions. I gather it's harder now.

The theory test I did (didn't have the video perception part) was a piece of piss, took me about 5 minutes and I got one wrong. I remember said question was about towing a caravan as well. Practical test was a lot harder however.

So I now have my wheels. Needs spacers to clear the front calipers which are on order and have located the necessary nuts today. Now trying to decide if I should polish them, or paint them a different colour. Then lower it, since the above pic is with a mate forcing the springs down

SWANS, WOMAN AND CHILD FRIGHTENED IN 2T CANAL POLLUTION SHOCKER.

 

First (canal) test 'drive' in the boat today and first time the domestic manager's tried it. Seaugull motor was a bit hard to start and because I'm still quite new to all this kind of thing I cleverly* started the engine after I'd tied the boat up so tight Houdini would have struggled. Cue one boat trying to go round in circles with the engine revving it's knackers off, missus flapping, dog trying to jump out and a SRSLY unimpressed daughter on board.

Missus got out, so daughter and I went for a quick blast up the canal to try it out. Must have got all of about twenty yards when the screw that holds the exhaust tube thing decided it would prefer life at the bottom of the (Shropshire Union) ocean, resulting in what sounded like several Lambrettas with no exhausts being rev'd up to the max :lol:

Mission aborted, but at least we tried and hats off to the bloke at the boat yard for helping out.
