When I was at school we did reading comprehension exercises from the age of 7. Obviously, in the new improved education system they must be omitted.

I think it’s because people have such low attention spans.  Read the title and price. Any more? Boring ! Can’t be bothered. Got better things to do, like “gonna bingo”.

Really? If I was willing to accept less than the starting bid, I’d set the starting bid lower.

Yeah, I'd never offer on that sort of listing. The whole start price but looking for offers over it doesn't work for me. I'd stick it up for a grand and set it to automatically reject offers below the insulting level.

Fucking yoke?

Sounds like one of the NI crew who will map it so it smokes like mad, then put mudflaps on it and lower it on its arse.

Felt spec yoke, she reeks.

I'm not sure what this guy was expecting to prove by sending me a link to his website.

As it turns out I'd dealt with them before selling my 244 to them which they flipped the next week for a tidy profit after writing a lengthy description full of lies and photographing it at a posh house that they don't actually own but use it for staging their adverts.

Funnily enough once the guy figured out I knew who he was he lost all interest in the car.

I've just spent an hour plus going down that rabbit hole via a 911 and another forum. Seems  a total charmer.

Bearing in mind I’ve now updated the description as people don’t seem to be able to read it and then look at the photos:

I have owned three cars in my time.  The first one got written off when someone smashed into it, and I sold the second one to a friend's mother without advertising it.

My neighbour's daughter should be passing her driving test soon.  Having read this thread, I think rather than trying to sell my current car I'll just stick it on their drive and say "Here, just take it, it avoids me dealing with the public.  Congrats and enjoy your free first car."

Agreed

I’d have more respect if he’d have said “Interested in the car, if I view it and am happy with it, would an offer of £1000 secure it?” As I get people perhaps don’t want to waste yours or their own time if it’s going to be over budget, but to go straight in with the offer always annoys me.

Expand

The point I was making was if you're going to make an offer on something and the price is agreed then you are turning up and buying it.

Like eBay, you bid to buy not to turn up and have a look.

I had a guy on the phone asking what the lowest I would take on my Mini which was for sale last year at £750.

As he'd bothered to phone me I generously said £500.

He then turned up, buggered about with it and then started simpering to fuck, saying he was "hoping to make an offer on it". You've already made your offer I thought.  His offer was £400. I went in the house and shut the door

He text me the next day offering £475 but by then I'd already sold it for £500. Even if he'd offered me £600 I'd have said no.

That's the hardest I have ever tried not to tell someone to go and take their face for a shite. An absolute no-righter.

That's why it's best ignoring these best price chancers from the beginning.

Nearly every car I've bought on eBay has been this format and I've offered lower.

Who goes onto Facebook Marketplace to buy car parts anyway 😂  not a dig at you, just not worth the hassle in case they're wrong after all. I can understand obscure parts but things like suspension components and clutches I just can't fathom. Can't find the screenshot now but I recently saw someone asking £50 for a used clutch and DMF for a Mondeo. The pressure plate was missing 🤣

Someone keeps listing a Transmech clutch kit for a Citroen C4 for £25 near me, they might as well just lob it in the scrap now as it'd never last 5 minutes fitted to a car!

Seeing as they’re new and never used, and anywhere between 50-80 quid new off eBay, I thought I might get 20 quid off them instead of launching them in the bin. 20 quid is 20 quid if it saves money on my fuel bill! The second hand stuff either gets binned or given away unless it’s for a classic. But thanks for your concern anyway! 🤣
