Im sad becos i just found out a young talented creative friend in Wellington took his own life...after a hards day laboor ...at a cafe i frequent...a Wellington mate who works there told me..then I had to take Stefano my good Italian mate to the airport in the merc to bade farewell to him...against a simmering sunset with lightning...im sad at loosing my friends thru distance or disaster..on the drive home..engine was vibrating..turns out ive got a cracked injector lead..so leaks and is misfiring!...actually..the car doesnt make me grumpy...its these lonely moments that do..

My condolences, Bub. I had to watch my sister depart us in similar circumstances last year. We knew she was ill, but the last bit came on very suddenly. I can still picture her now, and seeing her go was one of the worst moments of my life, but I couldn't have not been there. It was about her, not me.

 

It does get easier, and although you never forget, it becomes part of the memories you have of the person. Like Tim said, it's probably the best way to go, surrounded by those who love you.

Probably to encourage more people to buy Comprehensive. When I first started buying insurance 6-7 years ago, Third Party was the cheapest you could get as it was the most basic cover, it wasn't encouraged either. As I was paying around 2k to insure an 827 at the age of 24 (with no 'no claims' either) I opted for Third party Fire + Theft as Comprehensive was very expensive.

Went to do a "big shop" in the Astra except the battery wasn't having it (only been stood since Monday).

 

So stuck some insurance on the van meaning to fetch my spare battery and charger from my dad's along the way, only that's flat as well, ffs.

my crankshaft saga....

 

I had a spun shell on a crank, ordinarily i would source another crank, but....

 

This particular motorbike engine has to have everything matched, the crank/rods/cases/clutch are all unique to the build date and you can't mix and match

 

 

Sent the crank off to be spray welded and reground as it had spun a big end shell, this was June 2012, Admittedly I said no big rush, but I phoned them monthly and finally received it last Monday. Having a question mark in my head about bearing sizes I sought the advice of my local engine reconditioners, left it with them and got the phonecall to say..... ITS GOT A CRACK IN IT!!

Its for a motorbike, it has cost me £266 to get the crank spray welded,reground,new big end shells supplied, I've just bought a new set of main shells at £123 so I'm £400 out of pocket and now they want me to send it back,will I ever see it again?

 

There are no cranks in this country, I can get a secondhand one from America and then it might not fit and the £123 of bearing will be useless and probably not refundable

 

A crank from America = £300

And are they safe to use on a vehicle that might weigh the thick end of 3 tonnes fully laden, and are the usual 40-45 profile tyres proper commercial grade rubber?

^ If they are the factory supplied ones (SportVan) then I'm sure they are up to the job although I don't think the SWB version can get anything near a 3 tonne laden weight without going seriously overweight. Standard van can only hold something like 750kg IIRC.

 

However, have to say I quite like the Sport Transit although they are silly expensive.

Transits have a pretty monster stud pattern, a set of wanky £349 Halfords multifits with Hoo Flung Dung Low-pros wont fit on one, so I reckon it would take a reasonable effort to find some alloys that would fit on AND be unsuitable for the van-size loading.

There's a trend for lowering VW Transporters and fitting fake 19" Audi RS6 wheels and tyres to them. They ride dreadfully and the alloys crack.
