WTF is all that fuss about the Pope for? He's just a bloke who's been chosen for promotion, yet there's a shit storm of fuss about it all over the world. I got 'promoted' to temporary foreman at ATS once*, they didn't set a few smoke bombs off and have millions of people gathering round some fucking part worn Stomihls to celebrate.

*It only lasted two days, I knocked one of the lads out after work one evening and he grassed me up to the boss.

I don't get it either, although coming from the west of Scotland it'll be a hot tattie up here. I had a corned beef sandwich in his honour. 8)

2. Cannot get the right starter for the 460. GSF and Halfords have both pissed me around - both the motors they've supplied haven't been strong enough to turn the engine over. Andy is getting narky about it being in the way. No comment lest I fill the board with expletives. Not my fucking fault the suppliers are useless I'm afraid.

Hey Wat!! I have never heard of a new starter not being powerful enough to turn the engine over, 2 of them in succession sounds very fishy to me.... like the problem lies elsewhere. Have you tried adding an additional earth cable (i.e. a jump lead from the engine to -ve on the battery) to bypass the engine earth cable?

Snow based grump.

Monday morning, left hand bend into the street at work, always a parked tow-a-van type box trailer right on the corner blocking the n/s of the road so when you enter the street you do so in the middle of the road. Sailed into a parked Honda HR-V on the other side of the road at all of 3.14mph in a Merc fridge motor. Now Edinburgh was a disgrace on Monday, despite some arse covering knob from Traffic Scotland on the radio saying 130 gritters had been working through the night 99.9% of roads between home and the capital hadn't been touched.

Pissed off I've damaged someone elses property and such a shitty little bump has resulted in quite a bit of damage to their car.

Returning from my sisters Caerphilly this afternoon in the Maxi. It hadn't missed a beat on its first long distance voyage since being back on the road. I was on the M5 north near Worcester when there was a thud and water splashed over the windscreen, as a lorry was passing at the time I naively thought it had come from the lorry.

Got off the motorway at Worcester and went on the A449, I noticed the temperature gauge (which had spent much of the journey around 3/4 if the way up the gauge) was climbing towards the top. Anyway decided I ought to pull over which I did, by this time there was steam coming out of the radiator grill. I opened the bonnet to find a big split in the side of the header tank! I personally have never seen this before. Called the AA they came 90 minutes later and checked it over, filled up the radiator, he reckons it is a blown head gasket as he can see flecks of the oil in the coolant, and that has caused a build up of pressure and that pressure has found a weak spot.

My mechanic (who is also an enthusiast) reckons the AA man is probably wrong and it is a blocked radiator so he is going to look over it tomorrow afternoon. Looking at the manual the head gasket looks reasonably straight foward so may risk doing it myself if it comes to it! Hoping it is not though!

Dare I say it but if the AA reckon the head gasket has gone, then it's probably anything but this. Might be that the overheating then made the head gasket fail of course... Hope it's not too much of a ballache to sort out.

The AA always have and always will blame head gaskets, ask one of them the time and he'll tell you it's time to change your head gasket as it's blown.

:D

@ DW thanks hopefully it wont be a problem, the mechanic reckons he has only ever done two E series head gaskets in his working life and says these engines are pretty bombproof. Having kept an eye on the water there has been no sign of any problems up to now!

I was expecting some teething troubles anyway with it being off the road for so long!

My Alfa split the header tank when the head gasket was on the way out, build up of exhaust gases in the coolant .... I'm not saying the maxi's has gone, but it does happen

Autoshite has gone corrupt on my computer, I have missing buttons; submit and preview, and it wont display peoples names. I've cleared history, that didn't do owt, I've done disk clean up and deleted temporary internet files. Deleted cookies. I use Chrome.

It's showing all the moderators names over the top on of one another etc :/

SambaS - try another browser, Firefox or IE, see if the problem is still there.

Thanks whoever you are... IE is even worse, can't get past first page:

Oh my... other websites seem to be randomly effected too :(

Ok, sounds like a plugin may not working properly ... Turn your machine off and on again

Check to see for flash/java updates. I'm not sure what this forum uses though.

In the meantime I'd try firefox.

I'm not sure what's more shocking - that people still use IE or that Autoshite has a homepage

No. Wouldn't part with that one.

It's KEO 5Y. It was on a Golf cab I owned a few years ago. Kept it because I thought it might be worth a few quid. Dealers are advertising it for £1800. I'd be happy with a quarter of that.

I nearly bought L4NKY for £250, but it sold. Not that I was actually going to buy it. (actually it may have been L14NKY)

"That" white 405

Guys, we've had every single possible joke, gag, prank, wind-up and comment on that fuggin car in both the eBay and eBay Bargains threads...can we please just move on now???

I've another IT related problem.. My DVD ROM drive wont read the majority of my backup disks from the past decade, they are Memorex branded DVD ROMS but it will read Datasafe ones. If I use BadCopy Pro I can view and recover the stuff from the "unreadable" ones without issue so wtf is windows playing at? Is there owt I can do? Short of recovering and re-recording everything?

Just found out that my grandad (dad's dad) died of a heart attacck this morning at the age of 88. I now have no grandparents left, which gives me kind of an empty feeling, although I suppose it'd not an unusual situation to be in at the age of 33. Has kind of put a dampener on tonight's tat collection mission though.
