The grumpy thread

Eh? I can't see anything up with the fb page... :?

Someone's commnted on every photo with a copy and paste of the DVLA vehicle enquiry for the car in the pic.

This has made me quite angry...

I went into town today and parked up next to a 11 plate BMW 3 Series (in resale grey). As i got out the van the owner jumped out the BM and accused me of damaging his paintwork... I'm certain my door made no contact with his car and there was certainly no kind of mark at all. I instinctively apologized thinking it would calm him down even though I'd not done anything. But the owner carried on spouting off...

He insisted there was a mark in the paint. I pointed out that there wasn't but he still claimed he could see one and demanded my insurance details. Not knowing what else to do I told him not to be ridiculous and walked off, leaving him staring at my numberplates. When I returned he had gone but his car was still there.

Am I in for a world of pain because of a mental old man?

It would have been a good idea to have taken photos with your phone to show there was no damage as he will probably go home and hit his car with a hammer. :(

Posted

Yeah I thought of that just after I'd got in. I'm not sure if its a good idea to warn my insurance company that someone may try to submit a false claim?

If he bothers to report it to the plod you'll get a letter through the door asking to name the driver of the car at X location on date X sometime within the next few weeks. Don't ignore it - it's an S172 request which means if you ignore it you'll get £500 fine and 6 points.

If/when it does turn up, get the old bill on the blower - they'll be wanting to investigate "leaving the scene of an accident" and explain the situation and that there was 100% definitely no damage to his car and that you made no contact and he was going mad for whatever reason so you just got out of there because you didn't want the aggro off him and more than likely nothing will come of it.

They have to follow it up and send you the letter out, but if you explain to them that there was no accident or damage they'll just leave it at that.

I'm inclined to think he's a bit senile and was on some daily mail fueled hate trip against people with long hair and drive old vans.

Just get in first by reporting it to the police on the basis that you felt threatened by him.

Not really sure I've got anything to report to them. I don't know his full registration number and apart from him being a BMW driving white haired hate filled old man I'd find him difficult to describe.

I'll wait and see if anything comes of it.

I ordered some Citromania magazines from France. Today, I had the correct number of Citroscopes turn up in the post. These do not have the "30 years of the BX" special that the Citromania magazines do.

No response yet to the e-mail pointing out that they'd sent the wrong 'journaux' and please would they be so kind as to send the right ones. I am very grumpy about this.

Well,if you saw no damage, and your vehicle has no damage, then its a case of nothing to worry about. Proving anything would be very hard on his part, and unless he had a witness,he would have to prove YOUR vehicle damaged his,and that his wasn't damaged already.

No harm in reporting it at your local station though,as it will back up your 'Old nutter' case

Um, you're advising him to go to the local police station, and tell them that some old buffer got shirty because he thought his car had been touched in a car park?

Is there a particular law you think he should cite when he gets there? Or should he just claim that he's been given stress, and "I wannim done." Must be ace being a rozzer at times.

Report it as a road rage incident, also that you think that the other guy may be about to submit a fraudulent insurance claim to your insurance.

No, just call crimestoppers and get a ref number.

Why so belligerent?

Posted

He has got a point. Whether you call the police or Crimestoppers, you kind of have to have a crime to report and I'm also not sure that "somebody getting a bit arsey" would cut it.

Posted

I know it sounds petty but half the reason for the crimestoppers number is so people can get a reference number for insurance purposes without dialling 999.

Blackpool Ford Day this coming Sunday and guess what.....yep, the forecast is rain yet again. I really am starting to think having my Escort is a friggin waste of time, nearly every show this year has been cancelled because of the weather or it has pissed down and been a waste of time anyway.

The Blackpool thing has been a washout for the last 2 years as well IIRC.

^ Be glad you're not relying on events like that to make a living then.

Far too many shows I've been at this year were either a washout or cancelled meaning no selling for me.

Look on the bright side, at least the rivers are full again, it was looking like a fuggin catastrophe 6 months ago! Gr8 news for otters etc.

Yeh, bad news for you trader folk for sure. Did they say something about it being the wettest summer for 100 years?

Some lowlife smashed a window on the Safari to steal a hedge trimmer. Of course it was my fault for leaving it in the car.

So, a few weeks ago I goes on one of those car-breaking ebay websites. Send my request, get a response. Pay. Brilliant. Part arrives and yes that's right it's for the wrong MY. So I sends a message explaining they got it wrong (quite clearly specified 1990 in my request - a whole four years before the 2nd gen appeared), and I swiftly receive an apologetic reply saying I'll be refeunded. Two weeks and two increasingly sternly-written messages later, no response or refund. So I open a Paypal dispute - and the refund is received within five minutes

So lesson learnt which I will pass on - don't use http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/ they are lying scumbags.

Hey I've been to the zoo today, the otters did look pretty pleased with themselves tbh.

The smug bastards.

Bought a cheap laptop for the missus on ebay, it takes over a week for the seller to put it in the post, which they claimed would take 10 days, and charged me £20 for (the postage label is for £11, this git did NOT spend £9 on a fucking cardboard box).

That aside, the CPU fan screams on it, so I sent a message asking if, as we're happy with it aside from that, he'd spot us half of the cost of a new fan, to this, the seller has made a face like a cat's arsehole and wants us to send it back, which according to his postage scale would be twice the cost of a fan.

*Sigh*

I'm getting a bit fucked off with my 'lack of storage' situation. I keep seeing loads of great shite up for good prices but cant justify buying due to this bastard 'lack of space' problem, my sheer reluctance to sell any of my fleet doesnt help either.

I'd love to store the 827 Sterling somewhere for a bit and try out different things, eventually filling that space with an 800 V6 Coupe, but the way things are going, it aint gonna happen :(

Amen brother, I feel your pain. There's a fantastic 1 owner Ambassador that's just been driven into my local scrapyard. I can afford it, but I don't need it and have no storage. As you say, I can't bear to part with any of my current fleet and am struggling with parking as it is, so it's a no-go :(

I've also been eyeing this up for months, same problem though :(
