Said 'piece of shit' turned out to be Pete M's 604.

Who's in there now, Jon? Is it still Tom, the young-ish lad? He seemed ok when I met him, and he did a pretty good job of the 240 that Gray fabbed bits of swage up for.

Yup. He crashed his van into the back of my XJR before xmas, bent the bumper and broke most of the brackets. He's still not 'found a bumper' or done bugger all to fix it.

The new Bentley SUV. Those of you with working eyes may wish to have a jar of sulphuric acid to hand

*Checks calendar.* Blimey. It's not April 1st then. That's horrific, especially the rear lights.

Posted

It is, isn't it! YUK! More fuel for the "new cars are ugly shit" brigade, like me... This is an object lesson in how to devalue a brand.

Posted

Surely it's no more hideous than a Cayenne/X5, which is the market it's aimed at?

Posted

It's hardly classy though, is it? Bentleys were always meant to have a fair bit of class about them, but this is vulgar. I suppose that's the intended market segment that they're aiming for, those with too much money and want to show off that they have more money than taste.

It's only those who understand the heritage that get uptight about these thing, but our views are fundamentaly unimportant because we'd probably never buy the things new. The parent company is interested in the profits and fleecing the pockets of well-off people who think that bling is best - this'll be bought by footballers and the like when they trade their Q7s or whatever in.

Posted

That's it entirely M'Coli. The Cayenne, vulgar as it is, does look like a Porsche - similarly, the X5 looks like a BMW. Barely anything about this shouts Bentley. If you took the badges off, it could be a Chrysler.

Posted

I fail to see why you lot are disappointed by it. I think it's very clever from a marketing standpoint (testing the market to see how silly people will get in their quest for standing out) and will become NUCLEAR-GRADE SHITE in the years to come. I rather fancy buying one in about 2025 for that 2013 Russian oligarch look.

Posted

Look at it again but ignore the lights and wheels - it's very RR Sport in proportions, and I think with some non-fashionable lights (7" wipac jobs spring to mind  ) and a set of nice cross-spoke wheels this could look quite good.

Posted

I suppose I can see that it's a waste of the brand (But I'm not entirely convinced that Bentley have made anything worthwhile in quite some time), and I agree it's utterly vile.

But it's not really a surprise, is it? Everyone makes a luxo-SUV now, and "everyone" wants one. Natually, those who make cars cater to demand. Those who would have been happy with an X5 ten years ago now have to stump up to a Cayenne or a Q7 or whoever else makes 'high-end' luxo-SUVs, and this is another vehicle to cater for these people.

What makes me grumpy is that looking at these things getting bigger and bigger for the last ten years or so means that the "enormous" original X5 now looks quite nice. These are just cars now, not the shock and awe monsters they appeared to be when they first appeared as a class.

It's not even that big now, is it?

I'm not looking forward to that Bentleys DRL's coming at me...

Posted

Sent a £50 payment on RR last week, seller stating he'd send it asap. Heard nothing since, and today's message asking if he'd got the payment has not been answered. Is it too early to say I have a bad feeling about this....?

Was the Nissan Juke a style cue for that Bentley?

If my company bought me one of those I'd feel shat on and take my tie off before going in for a Moto Breakfast.

The rear view reminds me of that cheap nasty little Audi A1 - sack the stylist

The trouble with Bentley is they are too cheap/affordable. When the Continental GT was launched in 2004,it was about £110000,but when you consider the outgoing Continental R was £250000,suddenly,it was a new model for less than half the price of the previous model. The old model was the same price as a 4/5 bedroom detatched property, making it a bit exclusive - look what £110000 would get ! They made them too competative, and im my mind made the brand loose its image.

Its almost now like its a expensive past great name now stuck on a lesser car - like a 1957 Chevrolet is the same breed as a Chevrolet Matiz !!

Posted

Trouble is they're not going to give a flying one one about them being 'competitive' to be honest. The 'old money' Bentley owners are are a dying breed now and they (Bentley) have managed to knock out scores of cars to (almost) previously unknown types of buyers.

They had an exclusive brand, built up an imagine then knocked out some cheaper ones with a huge 'name' ont it. In all honesty they must be pissing themselves laughing and that new 4x4 monstrosity is going to sell pretty well I reckon to the Victoria Beckham type twats.

Posted

Just spent an hour and a half removing the coil from a 3 litre Carlton. Which twonk at GM decided to weld in the sodding battery tray, which is right on top of where the coil is mounted. Took 3 1/4 socket sets to get EXACTLY the right sized socket extension to undo the bloody mounting bolts. Managed to drop one ratchet drive onto [and just out of reach] the under tray, which will now also have to come off...........................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Posted

That's the idea - there are a load more people with £110000 to spend than £250000 on a new pose-mobile, but those that can't afford them but still lust after the kudos of ownership won't care about the difference.

I'd love to see one of these taking the fight to the BINIs on the Dakar - Bentley is a sporting make after all, isn't it?

Morrissey%27s+band+%27We+hate+William+and+Kate%27+t-shirts

Is it humanly possible for this man to be more of a cunt than he actually is?

"Singer Morrissey reignited the Falklands row last night by dressing his band in “We hate William and Kate†t-shirts.

The former Smith’s frontman continued his rant about the sovereignty of the south Atlantic islands at a gig in Argentina.

Referring to the islands by their Argentine name, the rocker told the audience in Buenos Aires: “We all know that the Malvinas are Argentina’s.â€Â

FUCKING TOSSER!

Also my heart goes out to the families of the brave soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan yesterday.

What an inflammatory tit he is. To think I used to admire the man.

Bang on sir! Fucking idiot isn't fit to lick their boots.

Historically inaccurate too. the Argentine claim to the Falklands is based on nothing more than it was a spanish dominion at the same time as Argentina.

Much the same as Australia claiming land rights on Hong kong because they used to both be British dominions.

Yes, Morrisey IS a total Piers Morgan.

Indeed on all accounts, although I'd argue that Morrisey is worse than Piers Morgan as Morgan at least has the common decency to make a total twat of himself every couple of weeks some way or other. (See his efforts on Twatter to piss of Gary Linecker and Alan Sugar, both ended badly for Piers).

And RIP to the soldiers killed today, it looks like a really nasty one if what they said on the C4 news was right... it's also a shame that, even if they have been uparmoured, they are still out there in Warriors there was a similar incident in Iraq with one getting totally nailed by an explosion and killing all inside. They don't seem to be a patch, in protection terms, on the Panthers and Mastiffs.

I kind of agree. Although I hated BMW and all their doings at the time (even the gorgeous Z8) due to the Rover sell-off, hindsight has proved that the subsequent owners were a lot worse, and the original nob jockey owners have moved on, they are quite a good looking and capable vehicle. I fear for other road users though when these have reached council levels and every 21 year old wannable hardman is driving a 12 year old one around with no insurance.

I can also forgive the 02-08 Range Rover almost anything, including nobbish owners, because they are such a successful reworking of the original one. The 'Wayne Rover' restyling was bloody awful.

As for the Bentley, its designed for the Yanks, Chinese and Middle Easterners. Bentley stopped being 'old money' when the Continental GT came out in 04. Its hard to think of a new car which is 'old money' now, save the LR Defender and some Jaguars.

I love Morrissey and the Smiths, but everything the man says is total bollocks. Didn't he say that KFC was worse than that child massacre in Norway a few months ago? Its easy publicity for him I guess.

What a fucking numpty. Does he think he's the next frigging Bono or something? Last time I looked, that idiotic buffoon wasn't achieving an awful lot by whinging at people.
