To bastardise the famous Abraham Lincoln quote "You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not please all of the people all of the time.

Its life, forums are no different, every forum has the good and the great and it also has its knob heads. Ive been genuinly suprised at some of the venom aimed towards me yet Ive also been touched by the amout of support ive recieved from people here who are seen as the "level heads and good eggs"

I dunno about Norm but he wasnt the problem really, the problem is with people who feel that their x amount of posts have entitled them to have a greater control of the forum than they are actually entitled to, its far from unique, every forum is the same, irrespective of its content.

I like this place, i like 99% of the people here, people who are genuinly interesting, funny, sharp and knowledgeable and i love the ethos of "shite"

I know people can turn into monsters once they have a key board infront of them, hey, anybody seeing A5s provocative postings on RR ( which make me smile) would assume that he may just enjoy bear baiting and causing problems, however, having exchanged PMs with him elsewhere, I know that he is a good un, somebody that i know i can ask for advice and he would give it, no probs.

As for "negative content" all I can say is that, short of throwing some detol over the place and trying to sanitise it you wont change it, why should you want to? Some cars are genuinly horrible yet, to some, they are great, thats what balances it all out, you can discuss the merits like grown ups, well you should.There is already a site across the road where you can be happy clappy and nod wisely at everything without any dissent whatsoever, is that what anybody REALLY wants for this place? It would kill it stone dead, worse, you would have to introduce YOOF speak like "oof" and "sex wee"Fuck that!

Ive tried to start threads relevent to the forum, I hope ive succeeded, I just hope the ones that whinge the most actually get off of their arses and start creating threads( alot of them dont) instead of rubbishing them.

I feel we're in danger of making Trigger appear to be the one pulling the trigger (ahem, pardon the pun) on Norm here. It wasn't just Trigger and I don't think it was just me and Trigger either. Quite a few were fed up of his blathering, though I can only assume that either the people who were getting fed up with him have either changed their mind now he's gone, haven't been on the PC today or are just entirely ambivalent. He was told several times by several different people that he was getting on people's wicks, even setting up his politics forum as a response to that. Sadly it didn't stop the inane waffle on here.

To be honest, I am glad he's gone, he was an irritating prat who contributed exactly nothing of any worth in his entire time here. It's all very well those that know him saying what a good egg he is in real life and how he has lived and breathed shite for decades, I'm sure it's all true but he quite literally NEVER made any effort to discuss that aspect of his life, instead choosing to bait easily-riled members into pointless slanging matches. It's all very well putting someone on 'ignore' but it's hard to ignore the seven or eight following posts of people going mental at him. It's all very well being a nice bloke, but all anyone sees here is what you type, and when what you type is a load of bollocks specifically designed to irritate people in EVERY post it's inevitable people are gonna kick off.

 

TBH these reams and reams of posts moaning about this place are now 90% of the content here, so it's no wonder people CBA anymore. I'm deffo not gonna waste my time spending hours putting something I feel might be interesting to have it pushed off the front page by a glut of identikit 'whats ur fave google image search result' threads. Whatever, it's just the fuggin' internetz anyway, everyone needs to calm down a bit, grab their camera and go on a spotting trip in the nearest retirement area.

I had no problem with Norm, I spoke to him a few times privately and he was fine, My problem was all the threads which turned into rows and nastiness after he posted in them by you lot, You all seem to have very short memories, ALL of you kicked off about it and said how you was adding him to ignore.

 

The bitterness then all filtered on to facebook, after 6 months of it and really falling out of love with this place i left a message on FB asking if something could be done, which it was, He didn't need to be banned, a chat would have been fine, but he was banned, I didn't feel good about it but if it didn't happen then this place would have became a ghost town, most the members who already left was due to him.

 

I'm actually really fucked off right now after you now all making Norm sound like a saint and bigging him up, whilst making me look like the cunt, I was the only one trying to sort this forum out, I really wish i hadn't bothered now.

If we're going to air our views and (hopefully) put all this shit behind us (as a forum) then some of your posts recently have a bit of 'they're all against me' or 'they're all...' full stop. Can't think of many people on here who are whiter and white including me and you Trigger. I'd noticed you'd complained about shit threads yet made a post in that daft one about Trans-sexual Weddings (or whatever it was) and I think their was a joke about Jimmy Saville recently too. Now I'm not for one minute moaning about what you posted (I'm the last one who could complain about that) but I am suggesting it could be seen as slightly two faced and it definately does show that none of us is perfect and that's my point. We could all find a thread or post we don't like (there's plenty out there) but if we all complained the place would be one big argument and people woul dbe less inclined to post full stop.

 

I have to say I did wonder if the raft of new threads (what you like/don't like) is possibly because people ARE trying to make an effort and in their view if it's car related that's fair enough. It's hard to disagree with it too (imho) because it's either people making new posts or the place dying on it's arse.

 

It'd be absolutely shit to see decent people with decent posts (yourself and Tayne just as two very quick examples) disappear as there's no doubting this is where the real quality of AS comes from. It goes without saying the two names mentioned there are far from exhaustive.

 

Ref our American friend. I'd imagine that some people didn't step into the Norm is great/Norm is a twat debate because they knew that somewhere along the line they'd get jumped on by the pro or anti brigade and spark yet more stupid arguments. Like this one for example.

 

Oh, just whilst I'm twatting on again let's not forget the newcomers here recently who've made a bloody sterling effort including Mr Felly (again, not just him) who've fitted in, posted decent stuff and had something of a character about them too.

 

Maybe we all stop taking things personally and think about what we post in future. Perhaps if some of the less topical stuff was moved into grumpy/grin it would be a big help in tidying the place up?

Spotting/reconnaissance mission: FAIL.

 

Thought it was time to get off my fat arse and check out Mouldsworth Motor Museum. I knew it wouldn't be open but figured the dog could do with a walk, fresh air is a win and there used to be a right load of shite kicking about in that area.

What could possibly go wrong?

Only one shiteworthy spot, and that was a good few yards behind a fence, then memory card was full so I deleted the only picture I got of it, and the grounds of the place were locked up...

 

 

Un-de-turd I decided to drive somewhere else and see what shite I could spot. This sharply led to FAIL. FAILure to proceed that is as about three miles away my bag o'wank Germanist car decided to pack up. Handily enough it was on a dodgy A-road by a hill...

 

Last time it happened the glow plug/choke lookalike light (bottom left on bank of lights)

came on but it started again after about ten minutes. No such sodding luck this time, twenty minutes of pee-arsing about made no difference. Low battery on 'phone, fed up dog, fed up dog owner and it was time to call my mates from the RAC.

 

Nice man duly arrives, I comment along the lines of 'bet the bastard starts now you're here' and guess what? It did

 

As ever with the RAC the service was spot on, driver was very friendly and he checked the fuel (removed filter, drained a bit out of bottom) for water or crud and none was found. He kindly followed me home to make sure I got back o.k which it did without drama.

 

Next time I'm going in a Vauxhall!

I had to work late last night, which was bad enough. But having had to do so they owed me a meal on expenses, so I arrived at the McDonalds drive through (classy) at 22:58 to be told they were closed. They close at 23:00

Bought a Mk3 Golf GTi the other day.Quite a nice standard car although there is an annoying knock from the rear.Sounds like an anti-rollbar link so today I had some spare time and had a look.No rear rollbar but the exhaust heatshield was loose.Two C clips and washers later I went for a spin.Still doing it.Jacked up the back leaving the suspension hanging,coil springs are fine.Looking underneath a U clamp seems close to some strengthening bar so I turned it sideways and went for a quick spin again.Still there.This time I jacked it up on the suspension and checked rubber bushes.Top shock absorber bushes next,hmm.threads look stripped but everything is tight so down the road again but still the knocking is there.Backing onto the drive I got too close to the hedge where a piece of angle iron jutted out and gouged the sidewall of my front tyre..ARSE...Not only did I not fix the annoying knock but buggered a tyre in doing so.

I'm not a very prolific poster (no shit Sherlock...), but have been hanging around forums long enough to have heard the "he's a great guy in real life" argument used in defence of all manner of keyboard-wielding tosspots. I have no connection at all with Norm in the real world and had no serious run-ins with him on here, but he did come across as a grade A twat and, for me at least, AS is a better place without his ramblings.

I don't understand how anyone got upset by the shermans posts, but then never read any myself as couldn't make it even halfway past the first line of any of them. And at least his posts all carried a large banner of something or other to prompt me to scroll on past.

Seems a shame to see anyone get the boot, maybe greater use of the foe button would have been preferable, better to ignore a twat than to tell them they're a twat, because then they'll try to prove otherwise and act like more of a twat in the process.

recieved letter from council today asking if i wish to pay for my parking space outside my house at £56 (6mths) or £108 per year

 

made me think... what the fuck am i paying road tax for, if not to be able to park my car on the street

 

beginning to wonder if my council is in cahoots with doovla in screwing car owners for more cash... i have visited friends and rellys in southhampton, glasgow, and other places...all with FREE street parking..(housing estates not city centre) so how can my council warrant this charge if i already pay out road tax to have my car on the road...

 

if they want money then charge their OWN fucking van drivers who park their council owned vans in all the bays, leaving residents visitors with nowhere to park and having to keep watching out for council owned clamper incase they get the car taken away... fuckin joke!!!

Now, the reason I'm grumpy is because the dog has been very ill for about a fortnight now, and today the vet said it wasn't worth carrying on. So now, for the first time in almost 20 years, we don't have a dog.
