The grumpy thread

This time of year really gets to me - I get my WINTER BLUES and start feeling pathetic and lethargic all the time, yet even if I wanted to go do something, it is freezing out and the roads are knackered. Though to be fair, yesterday I had the chance to watch the 1990 smash-hit film "Hard To Kill". But the way the weather is going, I'm even wondering whether I'll get to do anything meaningful at the weekend, probably just end up twiddling my thumbs until I go back to work. What a ballache.

Also, all these TV adverts for Christmas party food. I think the worst one is Iceland, for both advert (a song and dance number with a load of wonky-faced bints doing the can-can) and food (mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef inside them). Bearing in mind I'm the sort of person who will happily pull into a petrol station for dinner, they really must have reached new depths. The entire selection of stuff just looks foul. Even the Marks and Spencers platter looks horrid, cakes that look like sandwiches! Why would you even make those? What possible use is there for a cake that looks like a sandwich? I have a bigger problem with this than I should have, but ultimately I have very little going on, so I'm going to make this a big deal. Cake sandwich. It's ridiculous and I'm not going to stand for it, I refuse to accept this product needs to exist. If anyone buys this product, they are a complete cretin. If you turn up to a party and they have a tray of cake sandwiches, leave the party and explain to them why. Never contact them again. Let's work towards a world free of cake sandwiches.

So you're against Pie sandwiches too? Hollands pie inside two slices of BUTTERED Sunblest white. MMMMMMMM-MMMMMM!

What about fried rice butties?

Posted

I have nothing against home-made sandwiches (especially not the "lasagna club"), just the idea of someone going into Marks and Spencer and going "A CAKE THAT LOOKS LIKE A SANDWICH?! OH MY GOD THAT'S AMAZING, I MUST OWN THIS FASCINATING PRODUCT".

Posted

Hirst you sound like me when I was first told there is a legitimate genre of music called 'Witch House'.

Posted

Got to admit that those cake sandwiches sound pretty shite but still sound like a better concept than some utterly shit frozen potato product I was served as a child, which consisted of a hexagonal 'chip' with tomato ketchup inside. Quite why anyone would want to eat an inch thick fake chip with boiling hot ketchup inside is beside me. Who's job is it exactly to create such wank food?

Still, I think it was a Farmfoods product, so they're no doubt still churning out similar stuff. If so, I'm sure Jamie Oliver has some sort of (unintelligble) comment to make. Jamie's hexagonal ketchup chip wars or something.

That advert was just on again. Mini Dessert Sandwiches, that's what they're called. They will be dealt with.

Cav_station_wagon, that sounds exactly like the kind of toss Farmfoods would sell. I'm sure they still produce some kind of burger with boiling hot tomato sauce inside, this seems to be a theme of theirs. Might be good for a joke - tell someone it's a regular burger and then watch them scald the roof of their mouth.

Yeah, well, you're the nation that "perfected" pemmican.

Suffer!

Well, I have heard of it but never seen it in the wild.

Unless it is an alternative name for Spam - but that is American, surely?

Spent ages clearing the drive when i came home from work, even went out into the street chipping the compacted stuff up.

(making plenty of noise in the process to keep the neighbours annoyed for hiding inside rather than making an effort lazy dogs,

I tell a lie the fat girl across from me came out and flicked a bit of snow off her Fiesta then went back inside...)

Now look at it again.

Erm, pemmicam?

I am unfamiliar with this word.

To be fair, the USA brought us SPAM (hammers), chuddy and beef jerky. And Fugazi. I will at least forgive them that much.

So I thought I'd try and do something about my abject singleness by going onto match.com, creating a profile then.............how bleeding much!? 90 pounds for 3 months using their special offer. No woman is worth that!

Anyone been watching Turn Back Time - The High Street ITV Show?, I've been really enjoying it so far and have been impressed by their attention to detail so far but why tonight in the 1960's episode was there a 1972 Volkswagen Camper van being used?!.

probably because the set designers just dont know anything about cars, to them a car is a car, its got 4 wheels and an engine, and they think thier viewers wont notice  Hence why you might accidently see a Rover 600 on the set of a 1970s set TV show.

In other news........

Its started snowing (In case you aint noticed :? ) my Sterling hasnt moved since it detontated its own engine, tyres are flat as is battery, and despite application forms to several clowncils around the West Mids/Notts, I still havent found undercover storage which is what I intended to find BEFORE this antartic weather was to set. So I guess I'll be watching it deteriorate :(

yep, been watching that and it has been good. I also wondered why a 72 bay window was used for the 60's. I'd also never heard of a 'milk' bar either, my parents and the inlaws have never mentioned going to a milk bar.

They didn't live inside Anthony Burgess' brain then. That's not a bad thing you know, moloko is expensive these days......

I have a Welsh surname and went there on a school trip. Is that sufficient?

Pemmican is a concentrated mixture of fat and protein

Sounds lovely.

Well I for one am just pleased that I'm not an intrepid explorer forced to eat that disgusterous mess.

Maybe. How convincingly can you put the accent on?

Welsh accent is easy....just put weird inflexions on inappropriate words, and sound like you need to park a lung oyster.

It must be easy, Gavin Henson can do it, and he's as thick as pigshit.

"There is never anything more expensive than a woman who is free for the night."

Are you under 30? http://www.rotaract.org.uk. Under 26? Try the Young Farmers.

The producers probably couldn't find a 'splittie' in time.

The c.1935(?) Morris van the general store used wasn't really a representation of a 1960s commercial vehicle, although I can well imagine a rural shopkeeper using one 30 years after it was built.

OKCupid is free and seems alright. Quite a lot of 'myspace photos' on there though

The producers probably couldn't find a non-slammed/non-ratted 'splittie' in time because there are none left.

Bah. I was all set to sell the E30 tomorrow, but OMG SNOE CAOS!! has put paid to that. The buyer is only about 5 miles away (a mate from work so I said I would take it to him), but an E30 is the last thing I want to be driving in this - knowing my luck I'll wrap it round a tree on the way.

I can speak some Welsh. I'll tell her to Llay down and Prestatyn, what time is she available?

My run to Sheffield tonight has been cancelled due to the weather. :( It's only a bit of snow FFS!!!
